- AgeofMastery, on 01/30/2009, -6/+36More and more even the Jewish community is being sickened by Israel's actions.
- Ysabetwordsmith, on 01/30/2009, -6/+35I have been alarmed by Israel's actions -- the Jews of all people should know better than to build a Wall so as to oppress people! -- but wow, I would feel so much worse about it if I were Jewish. I'm glad some Jews are speaking out, though.
- inactive, on 01/30/2009, -5/+32Israel could be changed today if US support declined. US citizens are just as guilty by turning a blind eye to what's happening to Palestinians. sad
- redcolumbine, on 01/30/2009, -4/+21Voice after voice, the Resistance persists. Zionism is not Judaism, any more than Islamist terrorism is Islam or the Crusades were Christian. Keep speaking out. Greed and racism have seen their heyday - don't be cowed by their death-throes.
- amy31415, on 01/30/2009, -3/+19You're absolutely correct Betty. In order to decrease US support for the atrocities Israel is committing, we have to first give them the truth about what is going on in Palestine. This is made particularly difficult because many information sources are Zionist.
So, as Americans, we have to get the word out, pressure our government and get more people on board. To do otherwise is tacit approval, in my opinion. - Sasha56, on 01/31/2009, -3/+17I had the good fortune of meeting with an Israeli man last week to discuss the situation there, and peace efforts and what we can do on this side. He told me under no uncertain terms that the only way to change things is for the US to stop the "knee jerk" reaction, and that's a quote, of supporting everything Israel does. That's when you'll see real change. So I am going all out to see what I can do.
- inactive, on 01/31/2009, -3/+16Wow, Sasha, you weren't kidding. You DO get trolled...how annoying.
I was really touched by this letter. A woman valiantly throwing her own person and legacy on the cogs of the war machine in an effort to get someone, somewhere to see the light - how beautiful and terrible at the same time... - clvngodess, on 01/30/2009, -4/+16I wonder if it is really a blind eye, or perhaps eyes with a distorted world view, which is a symptom of the religion of self-righteous nationalism.
- inactive, on 01/30/2009, -6/+17Then you are a racist.
- AgeofMastery, on 01/31/2009, -1/+10No of course your job isn't complete, there's still some Palestinians left alive.
But I'm sure you'll fix that later with Operation Final Solution. - thepoliticalcat, on 01/31/2009, -2/+11Just because one is Jewish doesn't mean that one cannot speak out against crimes perpetrated by one's fellow Jews. It is not considered "protecting oneself" when you kill 1,200 human beings to avenge the deaths of 12. That is considered collective punishment, or genocide. Whoever calls him/herself a Jew must act in accord with the doctrines of righteousness, not racism.
- thepoliticalcat, on 01/31/2009, -4/+12Those Qassam rockets are about as effective as firecrackers. Less than a dozen people have been killed by them over these many years. The Israeli response was to use white phosphorus bombs on defenseless, unarmed women, children, and other civilians, all the while refusing access to the international press, medical teams, and aid workers.
It is not this man who has a mental health issue but you. How can you defend the killing of 600 children, many of them mere infants? What excuse is there for bombing stockpiled food, water, and medical supplies intended to save lives? To excuse war crimes by claiming your accusers have mental health issues is simply invalid. An exercise in the worst tactics of distraction and illogic. May your God forgive you. - AgeofMastery, on 01/31/2009, -2/+9First the story was that they dropped leaflets warning the residents, now it's become calls on their cell phones.
By next week we'll be hearing how the IDF went door to door to warn them... - thepoliticalcat, on 01/31/2009, -5/+10I too support Israel. But I do not support their right to commit war crimes. In the name of humanity, look into your conscience and ask yourself, when did it become right to use white phosphorus on children and women?
- thepoliticalcat, on 01/31/2009, -2/+7I don't know. If my ancestors had suffered cruelty because of their race/religion, and their co-religionists began a similar pogrom against others, I certainly wouldn't want my ancestors associated in any way with those co-religionists.
- Sasha56, on 02/01/2009, -0/+3You are probably one of those people who don't know the difference between a Qassam Rocket and phosphorus bombs. And I bet you never lived in the Middle East. Trouble is I have. And I am Jewish. I know murder, no matter who's doing it.
- Sasha56, on 02/01/2009, -0/+2The knee jerk reaction is to back Israel every time it farts. Are you enlightened now? The knee jerk reaction is that everytime Israel does something "wrong", America goes the opposite way. Are you getting the light?
Every President supporting Israel for 60 years is the continuation of the initial knee jerk reaction.
The light must be blinding you by now otdvash.
it it's not, then you are permanently blind. - AgeofMastery, on 01/31/2009, -2/+4And I see nothing but excuses for Israeli war crimes in yours
- malanic, on 01/31/2009, -0/+2"BUt then again just where do you draw the line when corrupt individuals start using these memorials of past misdeeds for their own political self interest , stealing other peoples land out of pure greed"
If a historical account is proven true, then names should not be erased from it, regardless of how many corrupt people use it to their advantage.
The truth should stand above corruption, or attempts to erase it.
"Choices indeed would those who passed before want to be remembered or associated with equivalent injustices in the future ?"
For one thing, they're not alive to be asked and it's presumptuous to assume how they'd feel about having their records erased from history. For another thing, it's not even up to them how they are treated by history.
Erasing someone's name from history should never be an option, especially if the goal is vengeance.
The manner in which corrupt people choose to use the records of Yad Vashem, should have no bearing on their right to maintain historical records.
No one should have the right to erase them. Not even the people who themselves are recorded. I can't erase my name from history, and neither can you, and It's a dangerous road to travel if you allow it. - malanic, on 01/30/2009, -6/+7Much as I'm against Israel's actions, Yad Vashem is a memorial to a past atrocity. It's a repository of information and it should not be erased (even in part) because of the objections of descendants, any more than American memorials should be erased because you may object to the American invasion of Iraq.
Certainly you can speak for yourself, however you should not be using your descendants names as political pawns. Especially since they can no longer speak for themselves. - sigg14, on 01/31/2009, -1/+2then why don't you go over there and fight for israel? oh yeah because you are a useless cowardly piece of human waste who supports the murder of innocents but doesn't have the internal fortitude to carry out the acts himself.
- ZZeke, on 02/01/2009, -0/+1Descendants of the deceased have every right to manage the memory of their ancestors any way they see fit. It's not up to you, me, or anyone else.
- heystoopid, on 01/31/2009, -2/+1BUt then again just where do you draw the line when corrupt individuals start using these memorials of past misdeeds for their own political self interest , stealing other peoples land out of pure greed .

Choices indeed would those who passed before want to be remembered or associated with equivalent injustices in the future ? - inactive, on 01/31/2009, -4/+3I don't know. I have seen some pretty crazy fireworks. One even liberated a whole group of poor oppressed farmers in South Africa.
- malanic, on 01/30/2009, -2/+1*I obviously meant to say 'forebears' instead of 'descendants' in that second paragraph.
My bad. - malanic, on 01/31/2009, -3/+2So you're all for destroying monuments and erasing history, no matter how noble and honorable they were at the time of their construction, simply based on the actions of the current government?
Once a monument has been destroyed, or a library burnt down, it can be very difficult to retrieve the information, or reconstruct the monument in times of peace.
History should be recorded, and it should never be destroyed as an act of pure vengeance against the current status quo. - COINTELPROAgent, on 01/31/2009, -5/+2Age of masturbation is more like it. Care to address my problem with the inaccurate article description?
- tzvika613, on 01/31/2009, -6/+3Calling a Kassam rocket ' about as effective as firecrackers ' is ignorant or out and out deceitful. Nothing is effective if it only hits an uninhabited area. If it hits a house or an inhabited area, it is very effective, especially when the warhead is an explosive one, that it packed with steel ball bearings and pieces of metal, as Hamas has been known to do.
- inactive, on 01/31/2009, -7/+3You think this is bad.. you should see the pro-Jewish topics.
- inactive, on 01/31/2009, -7/+3So how did the US knee jerk in this case? Giving Israel 3 billion a year consistently is somehow a spur of the moment decision?
Every single American President in the past 60 years supporting Israel is somehow rash?
Enlighten us. - inactive, on 01/31/2009, -8/+3In the immortal words of Eek the Cat. Rrreally?
What race? - tzvika613, on 01/31/2009, -8/+3Just what IS the race that Israel is attacking ? Do you honestly consider Palestinians to be a separate race ? Arabs a separate race ? The term ' racist ' is being tossed around way too freely. Oh look at who is a member of the Knesst (parliament):

http://digg.com/world_news/From_Ethiopia_to_Israel ... - rebo2, on 01/31/2009, -11/+6I do too.
- inactive, on 01/31/2009, -7/+2Race, society, being, species... all onto themselves.
They are truly special. I think Richard Dreyfuss is hearing voices in his head telling him to head to Gaza. - COINTELPROAgent, on 01/31/2009, -7/+2@thepoliticalcat, I see nothing but excuses for Hamas war criminals in your worthless comment.
-Each of the thousands of rockets targeted at innocent civillian populations are clearly defined as war crimes under international law. Answer this or shut up.
-The International Red Cross says that there were no WP bombs used on Gaza. I have no respect for liars.
-I have seen many international press reports from Gaza, and no one except you denies that aid and aid workers were allowed into Gaza. You seriously need to talk with a specialist about your problem with compulsive lying.
-Palestinians blame Hamas for using children, families and family homes in an attempt to shield themselves from attacks, which is clearly a war crime under international law. So there you go lying again.
-Then at the end of your comment, "An exercise in the worst tactics of distraction and illogic. May your God forgive you."
My comment was: "There was nothing done 'in the name of all Jews.'"
So you basically lied at the end of your comment that I was trying to distract from the article when I clearly answered the headline description.
You should work at the UN, jackass. - COINTELPROAgent, on 01/31/2009, -18/+7Buried - Inaccurate, although it is also lame. The operation in Gaza was to fight rockets being fired on unarmed civilian populations which is a war crime.
There was nothing done "in the name of all Jews." Clearly the man has a mental health issue that needs to be dealt with. - inactive, on 01/31/2009, -14/+3This is really meaningless. What does the holocaust have to do with Israel defending itself?
I met a woman at the airport that was a holocaust survivor. She told me religion was "for the toilet" and that when she did worship, it was a rock n' rollin good time at one of those Baptist type sing-a-long chuches.
She was a cool lady. Digg me down if you disagree.. however talking to her about Israel, even though she had been to Israel, was somewhat irrelevant, at least in relation to her background.
I found a Jew that likes Hamas! I found an agnostic that supports Israel! Wow. - vorpalwindex, on 01/31/2009, -12/+1I support Israel and I truly believe that our job is not anywhere near completion. I wonder what you'd do if your neighbor kept throwing missiles at your house. I bet you'd sit there and take it. God, you people are senseless. Stop browsing Digg and CNN as your only news sources and look up the other sides.
- rebo2, on 01/31/2009, -17/+6Your grandfather would be rolling in his grave - if he had one. You are sadly misinformed about the conflict, which is particularly sad because you are Jewish. Israel has to protect itself, and they did so by avoiding civilians.
Yes, they called civilians on their cellphones to let them know when they were striking an area. - webgrafix12, on 01/30/2009, -30/+7I support Israel and their heroic actions to defend their country from the evil acts of terrorism!!!
