- laughandsing, on 04/11/2008, -7/+357So.... why are the olympics in China again?
- PopcornDave, on 04/11/2008, -11/+294If enough athletes have the balls, this might be the first year the Chinese win all the medals.
- inactive, on 04/11/2008, -5/+156In Ancient Olympics, wars were paused, everyone was having an easy time during their whole duration.
- jezsik, on 04/11/2008, -7/+154Expelled under "anti-propaganda" rules? Shouldn't that be "anti- free speech" rules?
- iXneonXi, on 04/11/2008, -29/+150Boycott Olympics '08.
- notoneofus, on 04/11/2008, -4/+117$
- canewediggit, on 04/11/2008, -10/+117we need a jesse owens moment. but it needs to come from a chinese competitor for maximum effect.
- inactive, on 04/11/2008, -7/+77hahaha! anti propaganda laws. how ***** ironic.
- macmangb, on 04/11/2008, -8/+75I wonder what will happen when it's time for the Paralympics, China is notorious with their treatment of the physically and mentally disabled even so far as to executing them.
- leonhyral, on 04/11/2008, -7/+59More likely executed.
- cmccool, on 04/11/2008, -3/+51or ovaries, don't forget about those...
- breadfred, on 04/11/2008, -7/+48This is a potential nightmare. Expelling sportsmen for displaying a Free-Tibet poster in their own room? Not allowed to wear a T-shirt in your own spare time while in the Olympic Village with a slogan of your choosing? Way to go, Olympics. Grow some balls if you want to promote world peace. Stopping your performers, who are in the end your bread and butter, expressing their opinion is nothing short of hypocrisy.
- bosssmiley, on 04/11/2008, -2/+41Won't happen. The authorities know where their families live...
- rizzo2008, on 04/11/2008, -9/+46This isn't politics its human rights
- regression, on 04/11/2008, -3/+39if it did come from a Chinese athlete, he would be jailed.
- PocchieTheMan, on 04/11/2008, -16/+51Damn commies.
- MrWally, on 04/11/2008, -4/+37The preview picture made me click the story.
I was rather disappointed. - rockrapdude, on 04/11/2008, -6/+39Why were the olympics in the Soviet union? Because sport doesn't see borders, quarrels and politics. The Greek olympics were a time of peace, when everybody would stop fighting and come together to see who is, not who has, the best sportsmen all-around.
- cathpah, on 04/11/2008, -6/+38that ***** is ridiculous. Olympics have been boycotted by many countries, many different years, all because of political reasons...but china, who is HOSTING the damn olympics tells everyone (both the IOC and other countries on whole) to keep politics out of the olympics.
what a load of horse *****. - littlemarcho, on 04/11/2008, -8/+37Even funnier is when you click on the fourth image "The torch gets support" - that leads you to 404 Not Found
he he, no ***** - aladrin, on 04/11/2008, -11/+40I guess I had my head in the sand. I really thought the Olympics was about coming together world-wide and competing... To ban anyone for their political views... Even so much as having a flag of a country they aren't from in their room... Amazing.
I kept excusing their actions as protecting the Olympics, but this just goes over the line.
I'm officially against the Olympics in China now. I hope nobody goes, nobody watches, and they get as much negative attention as possible from all this. - Zwierdo, on 04/11/2008, -2/+31Yes.
China has proved time, and time again time again that they are willing to violate basic human rights to keep their fascist regime alive. The Tienanmen square massacre was one shining example of this, captured on live video by news correspondents around the world. Yes, I realize that the United States hasn't had an exemplary record with human rights recently, but I do firmly believe that if a Chinese athlete whipped out a Tibetan flag on the medal stand, they would never be seen again, much like the Panchen Lama. - philhatesyou, on 04/11/2008, -14/+39Dear all you ***** morons,
Before you go railing about how China put this evil rule into place, READ THE ***** ARTICLE. China didn't put the rule in place, you dip *****. This rule has been around for 40 ***** years. - inactive, on 04/11/2008, -3/+27Athlete organs would get a great price on the Chinese Organ Market.
- EBFoxbat, on 04/11/2008, -0/+23I'm inclined to think it'll be more of a mysterious disappearance in light of all the media attention. No public examples here.
- brstilson, on 04/11/2008, -0/+22Actually, what she said was "I've got big balls, I've got big balls, And they're such big balls, Dirty big balls, And he's got big balls, and she's got big balls, but we've got the biggest balls of them all"
- laughandsing, on 04/11/2008, -3/+25Agreed. But with that in mind, they aren't agreeing to just that. They are not looking part borders, quarrels and politics. They are making the rules as to how they want people to act inside their country. If they were making rules for safety that would be fine. But saying someone can't carry the flag of their country? That is not seeing past politics. They are not creating an environment of peace, they are distrubing the peace.
- liuite, on 04/11/2008, -2/+22hmmm. I guess an athlete can't compete if he/she has a tattoo of the Tibetan flag.
- dorvaan, on 04/11/2008, -5/+24These Olympics are going to be the biggest ***** ever.
- Spuy767, on 04/11/2008, -0/+18I believe it was margaret thatcher who said, "I've got balls. . ." When prodded by by a reporter about a comment by some member of parliament that "it takes balls to be prime minister." Then again, this is Margaret Thatcher we're talking about. She may actually HAVE had bals.
- amdforever, on 04/11/2008, -15/+33Learn the truth about Tibet:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TopPeqpTX5w (NOT Rick-roll)
The propaganda is not from China. This is a WESTERN MEDIA PROPAGANDA. - 9bpm9, on 04/11/2008, -1/+18The IOC chose to give China the games, it's not like China made them give it to them.
- jackalsclaw, on 04/11/2008, -1/+18it would be funny if a asian medal winner reveled he was secretly Tibetan and demand they raise they Tibetan flag at the ceremony.
- funkyjunk3, on 04/11/2008, -2/+18shoo, spammer, shoo!
Once a spammer, ALWAYS a spammer: http://digg.com/users/allenx - canewediggit, on 04/11/2008, -2/+18my bad, i meant tommie smith; http://i.infoplease.com/images/blackpower.jpg
not sure why i thought owens had done that - inactive, on 04/11/2008, -1/+17China is the perfect place for the Olympics. It's a multibillion dollar industry built off of the blood, sweat, and tears of unpaid athletes. If that's not a perfect match, I don't know what is.
- kellyalex, on 04/11/2008, -27/+41don't bring politics into Olympic!!!
it's a peaceful meet.don't dirty it! - phazon88, on 04/11/2008, -5/+19But the olympics are meant to be about peace and we still have China doing ***** stuff to Tibetans.
- Jeffler, on 04/11/2008, -0/+14Mel Lastman, then-mayor of front-runner at the time, Toronto.
"What the hell do I want to go to a place like Mombasa [Kenya]? ... I'm sort of scared about going there ... I just see myself in a pot of boiling water with all these natives dancing around me."
THE DAY BEFORE THE DAMN VOTE - Midtowner, on 04/11/2008, -0/+14"International nation" = oxymoron, moron.
- elijahalcantara, on 04/11/2008, -0/+14元 ?
- inactive, on 04/11/2008, -3/+17You're absolutely right. A handful of athletes are much more important than human rights violations.
- treedude, on 04/11/2008, -3/+17The Olympics are already a disaster and it hasn't even started.
- philhatesyou, on 04/11/2008, -5/+18You're asking digger's to pay attention to history and ignore the propaganda they've been fed for years now. Good luck on that one.
- flaknugget, on 04/11/2008, -9/+22It's illegal to show coffins of dead American soldiers, in the United States.
These two things seem eerily related, IMO. - poidh, on 04/11/2008, -1/+14Great big brass balls, no less.
- inactive, on 04/11/2008, -0/+12Why were the olympics in nazi Germany?
- philhatesyou, on 04/11/2008, -2/+14The Tibetans have more civil rights now than they ever had under theocratic and feudalistic Lamaism. But this is digg, where people support a cause because Richard Gere and the ***** Beastie Boys said it was a good idea.
- TripleAStacked, on 04/11/2008, -0/+12Because days before the bid back in 2001, Toronto's mayor was suppose to go to an African country and he said this
""What the hell would I want to go to a place like Mombasa," he said, later adding, "I just see myself in a pot of boiling water with all these natives dancing around me.""
Later that week.. Beijing won the bid over Toronto... I wish it was here.. :( -
