- hottKarl, on 10/10/2007, -2/+103A good reference to learn how Blackwater operates is Jeremy Scahill's book "Blackwater: The rise of the worlds most powerful mercenary army". Blackwater is a unique entity that is part of Cheney's plan to privatize the military. The wheels were set in motion over 20 years ago for companies like Halliburton, KBR, Bechtel, Triple Canopy, Blackwater ad nauseum to gain access to government contracts in which key Washington players held personal stake in. But I digress; This is common operating procedure for Blackwater. They shoot first, no questions. There are documented accounts of Blackwater killing many civilians in Iraq including but not limited to children, women and non-combatant men of age. (Refer to Book). Blackwater is immune from any prosecution related to operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran and the many other locations that they are currently stationed (including the US-Mexico border). Nothing will happen in terms of operations or prosecution concerning this case. As with anything else of any substance that makes it into U.S. media, this story will be a faint memory come Wednesday.

- eschompthis, on 10/10/2007, -10/+43with careless behavior, these ***** are profiting from the war. Watch National Geographic Guns for Hire. The movie shows how reckless they drive around the roads, even as far as driving on the wrong side of the road. Putting kids and civilians in danger.
- PhilMoskowitz, on 10/10/2007, -8/+40Keep on sending vile goons all over the planet and you'll eventually pissoff the wrong people, they'll smuggle a nuclear weapon into America, then all of you will have to sober up, smarten up and grow up. This glib idiocy that everyone addresses these incidents with will turn to gallows humour as you attempt to put your country back together. The unfortunate fact is that this needn't happen if you'd just put 2 and 2 together and realize the consequences of pissing on the rest of the world for corporate interests. You should really consider taking your country back.
- superfusion, on 10/10/2007, -3/+30"An incident"?? I don't care whether it's a security guard in rural USA opening fire on 11 black dudes, or blackwater opening fire on 11 brown dudes -- it's freak'n murder. Hang 'em.
- workharderscum, on 10/10/2007, -0/+26The daft thing is that even if they did fire first, even if they did shoot without provocation, even if they just decided to start killing people for the sheer hell of it, they are immune to prosecution by anyone.
Give some guys guns, stick them in a foreign country, and tell them that there are no consequences whatsoever. Guess whats going to happen? - anachronaut, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25"you'll eventually pissoff the wrong people, they'll smuggle a nuclear weapon into America, then all of you will have to sober up, smarten up and grow up."
Pardon me while I regain my breath after that bout of hysterical laughter. If someone were to do such a thing, it would basically justify all of this administration's posturing and lies, and if you think it would cause the American people to "sober up, smarten up and grow up", then you obviously learned nothing from the WTC debacle.
The chickenhawks in this country are just praying for an event like that to happen... didn't you read that article about Cheney wanting the Israelis to attack Iran so they could goad them into retaliating (so that the US could thereby justify attacking Iran due to their "unprovoked aggression")? They've set themselves up pretty nicely in a win-win situation, so that an attack against America would play right into their hands, and if there isn't an attack, it's because they did such a "good job" protecting us. - uptoit209, on 10/10/2007, -5/+26some odd years from now people here will ask, "what ever did we do to deserve this aggression from the middle east.."?
- Konrad9, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21I saw a crazy video on the front page of youtube fairly recently.
Showed video from the back of a car just driving around. I didn't have the sound on so all I saw was what looked like dirt coming off the back window and then a car behind them would swerve and crash.
I thought it was odd so I started it again and turned the audio on.
Turned out it was Blackwater guys talking about how fun shooting at people was, and the 'dirt' I thought I saw was muzzle flash from weapons fire. - brotherfranciz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19That is apparently a British company called "Aegis Defense Services". Here's the same clip on youtube:

He's right, it was Aegis not Blackwater, but the video definitely does exist. Also, why the ***** is it that anytime some contractor in Iraq is doing ***** that is highly immoral and illegal, it's insurgent propaganda? When the ***** will Americans smarten up and realize that this whole goddamned ordeal is one giant *****. - wisam, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16"A directive issued by U.S. occupation authorities in 2004 granted contractors, U.S. troops and many other foreign officials immunity from prosecution under Iraqi law.
Security contractors are also not subject to U.S. military law under which U.S. troopers face prosecution for killing or abusing Iraqis."
In other words, they are not accountable for any of their actions/! Including haphazardly killing civilians.
Why on earth is this not even getting 400 diggs while a picture of a dutch girl on a bike gets 600 diggs?! - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+19I'm so happy to see that Blackwater is trying to establish 'training bases' all along the West Coast and in other parts of the US. Hats off to the wonderful Governator Arnold who has cut a deal with them in California. I really, really want to see trigger-happy goons running wild with government support in my neighborhood. Maybe after the next quake they can try to come around here like they did in New Orleans after Katrina, confiscating guns from citizens without proper cause.
- 1337Einstein, on 10/10/2007, -4/+18Are you trying to bait star wars nerds, or did you put Greedo instead of Han by accident?
- shackleton1, on 10/10/2007, -6/+20Speculation: Somehow I doubt that trained mercs would fire on civilians unprovoked. Could be that the mercs took fire emanating from foes hiding behind civilians.
Conclusion based on speculation: Then it's too bad. It's a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Irony: Another thing, I wouldn't believe anything the so-called Iraqi government says, because they're too riddled with sectarianism and clannism. - synaesthesia, on 10/10/2007, -4/+18The Naomi Wolf article is a great and intriguing read, although thanks to you sounding like a complete nutjob, nobody will bother reading it.
- SzaszMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Actually that's a video of South African contractors who work for a British contracting firm, named Aegis (look it up). Those aren't Arabs, but they are contractors who work for the "coalition."
I know, I know. It's so confusing. So many different murderous contractors to keep track of. - hawkspur, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Yeah, videos rarely show anything. Except, you know, a magical moving picture of what exactly happened.

but if we gona get nuked by somebody other than our own government than with a high probability the target will be washington itself ... and burning alive may not exactly be what our politicians were hoping for even thought its what they deserve
they dont seem to be worried though which suggests that they know there arent any real terrorists other than themselves - mrmworth, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12the iraqi government needs to get a pair of balls and start kicking blackwater and everyone else out of their country.
- Delphium226, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14Blackwater - one of the reasons why the US has lost the battle for hearts and minds. Nothing will come of this, Erik Prince, CEO of Blackwater, is a major republican supporter.

Fair warning, its rather disturbing to watch these hired thugs open fire on clearly innocent cars and people. - Thuktun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Mal: Now this is all the money Niska gave us in advance. You bring it back to him, tell him the job didn't work out.
[Henchman Crow spits.]
Mal: We're not thieves. [pauses.] Well, we are thieves. Point is, we're not takin' what's his. Now, we'll stay out of his way as best we can from here on in. You explain that that's best for everyone, okay?
Crow: Keep the money. Use it to buy a funeral. It doesn't matter where you go, or how far you fly. I will hunt you down, and the last thing you see will be my blade.
[There is a short pause.]
Mal: Darn.
[Mal kicks Crow toward the engine; Crow is sucked into the intake. Cut to Zoë bringing a second bound henchman before Mal.]
Mal: Now this is all the money Niska gave us in advance…
Henchman: [quickly.] Oh, I get it. I'm good. Best thing for everyone. I'm right there with you. - getatmedigg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9The US is funding this merc group to create instablity in the ME to further justify the US occupation. Nothing new.
- Vincent21212, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Fun, eh?
Most of these guys are prior military, right? Does honor fade once your enlistment is up? Or could there possibly be scum like these amongst America's bravest?
Soldier and marine incidences like these go unpunished most of the time. But, they're doing it under the premise that they're serving their ***** country! - rarson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8You've never been in the military, have you? You should see the people they recruit. Generally, the people who are smart enough not to ***** their lives up somehow don't end up enlisting.
- BelXul, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I remember seeing that video a few months back. The one with the old country song playing throughout the whole thing, yes? If so, that's not Blackwater, but it does represent the views expressed by Iraqis. That particular video was from a security firm called Aegis, if I remember correctly.
- gnick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Um... Blackwater is profitting a LOT from the war...
- an0nymous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8geez:
On October 27, 2005 a number of "trophy" videos showing private military contractors in Baghdad firing upon civilian vehicles without clear reason sparked two investigations after they were posted on the internet. The videos were linked unofficially to Aegis Defence Services. Both the US Army and Aegis conducted investigations into the video; while the Aegis report is closed for client confidentiality reasons, the US Army enquiry concluded that the contractors involved were operating within the rules for the use of force. More 4 News broadcast extracts of the videos in March 2006.
You gotta be kidding. - overtoke, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9It's in the best interests of Blackwater to kill civilians, create chaos, sustain instability and even kill U.S. forces.
And that is exactly what Blackwater is doing in Iraq. The are not protecting anyone. - had3l, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I was so f'ing shocked by that video. If it was my country and there were people doing that to us, I would pickup a gun and shoot them right back to the country they came from. No wonder this has spawned so many "terrorists". If Russians invaded the USA and hired mercenaries who liked to shoot people for sport, I am SURE any patriotic american would pick up their rifles and become "freedom fighters". If Osama Bin Laden wanted to recruit more suicide bombers, all he would have to do is show young arabs this video.
- an0nymous, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10No it's not. I first saw that video almost a year ago. There is nothing to indicate that these shooters are even Americans. Yes the guns are m16s but the voices on the radio that are not quite drowned out by the music? Definitely Arabic.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11You sir, are a ***** *****. If you think that Americans have the right to invade a country in the name of democracy then endanger its citizens then you do not deserve any respect from society. Your comment exudes pure evil and malice and I think the only way to kill you is to drive a wooden stake through your black heart.
- an0nymous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Agreed. Why the hell aren't they calling them mercenaries, anyway? Contractor sounds like they were brought in to work on a coding project, refinish the bathroom, or something totally benign....
oh, wait. - AnarkeIncarnate, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Know who else were "just doing their jobs?" The Nazis. And they had little pieces of flare they made the Jews wear
