- dforty3, on 10/11/2007, -4/+28Plan for Iraq...
Step 1 - Leave
Step 2 - Apologize
Step 3 - Let their own people rebuild their country so they have jobs and economic growth.
Step 4 - Apologize again.
Plan for Iran...
Step 1 - Buy their oil
Step 2 - Buy less Saudi oil
Step 3 - Sell them more American products made in China
Plan for America
Step 1 - Stop believing ***** like "they hate us for our freedoms"
Step 2 - Restore our freedoms that Bush has been incrementally removing over the last several years
Step 3 - Impeach those SOBs and anyone who stands in the way of impeachment - populist, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21Iran - maybe they're developing nuclear weapons, maybe not. The fact remains, the USA has more weapons and more military spending than the rest of the world combined.
So, doesn't it seem a bit odd that this government wants to claim other countries are dangerous? hmmmm.
Some interesting thoughts on this:
"Speaking of Iran"
http://www.populistamerica.com/speaking_of_iran - edrift101, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18Hmmm... I know how this works. Our government has done it many times before.
First our covert troops will do something the Iranians will not like (failed assassination attempt). They will respond with violence (backlash) and then our government will claim that they need to be taken down a notch for hating out "freedoms." - Jrogan, on 10/11/2007, -3/+201) Is this not state-sponsored Terrorism?
2) Vote for Ron Paul...Please!
3) There is absolutely no plan to ever leave IRAQ...don't be fooled.....They are building 14 permanent military bases there plus an embassy bigger than the Vatican.....It is all lies and Propaganda! - dforty3, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17@thcobbs... Thanks for your reply. Do you know how much money we are borrowing from China, Japan and Saudi Arabia to fund this war? I believe it is about $3 billion a day. Do you believe that Pakistan is a threat? How about Saudi Arabia? Do you know that the majority of the population of Iran is under the age of 30 and has pro American tendencies? Is there an opportunity there? Are you thinking of the phrase "keep your enemies closer"?
I don't necessarily subscribe to the religious war panic that this administration is pushing. I believe the neocons are carrying out their plans for world domination as cited in the PNAC document. - hawkeye17, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13Now who's the 'terrorist'?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15***** prick Bush and CIA. No ***** business doing *****. This is terror. Isn't it enough they bombed mosques and killed innocents there when they installed the Shah in 1953 and brought down Mosadehq. And then installed Savak and killed thousands of innocents until 1979. ***** the CIA. I hope Iran strings them up by their balls.
- bobthebruce123, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12This is ridiculous. If Iran was doing this to us, what would we do? Also - I don't know how this is qualified as a black-op, broadcast on the evening news and already common knowledge.
- newsfrommars, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11The fact that they are encouraging militant groups to strike at Iran fits very nicely into the accepted definition of terrorism. But it's only terrorism when someone else does it.

Last time Iran invaded a nation: ....
Last time USA invaded a nation: 2003
Last time USA used a nuke on innocent people: 1945
Last time anyone else used a nuke on innocent people: ... - EntropyMan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9@wintermd (#6819980) said: "Do the Dems have a plan yet for Iraq? Come on they have been in power fow how long? And no plan to win?"
What the ***** does this have to do with Iraq, except that it's another country we can invade to help destroy whatever is left of us good will around the world? Do you have the same problem as BushCo with spelling Iran and Iraq?
What matters about this program is that it is illegal, unconstitutional, and impeachable. It's like Iran/Contra all over again. "Non-lethal" action is total *****. Manipulating a country's currency is technically (in international and US law) an ACT OF WAR. We said as much when North Korea was caught counterfeiting US dollars.
Let me say that more clearly. If this story is true, and it seems to be, the US has unofficially and illegally begun to wage war on Iran by attacking it on its own soil. It doesn't matter if we have or haven't fired a shot. We've kidnapped their officials. And we're attacking them in a significant way. If this was being done to us, we would respond. And they will. And the world will not blame them.
This is why we can't wait for '08 to impeach Bush. He will get us into another war before he leaves. It's guaranteed. - polyGone, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8@wintermd
Can you tell us exactly what 'winning' entails? - maskidat, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Well, would you like to have the job bequeathed to the democrats--cleaning up after this horrible administration? It's totally unfair to expect them to straighten out this mess in such a short time. It will take years, if ever, to restore balance and TRUE morality--not the kind that just goes into attack mode and takes out their hostility and hatred on gays and "terrorists" who seem to include anyone "different." :(
And true to form, they now blame the mess on the democrats. Handy, indeed. They always do, creating their own surreality in the process. And Dennis Kucinich was wise enough to vote no to our attacking Iraq; he had an exit strategy back in 2004. He foresaw exactly what would happen, as did the rest of the world. But, now we're stuck with this tar baby, and most of the country sees it. Some never will. - EntropyMan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8@thcobbs (#6828925)
No one says it's okay for Iran to have nukes. What the more rational people say is that the only way to stop them is to actually convince them to stop. And that requires diplomacy, not starting another war we can't win. - edrift101, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I think if the Iranians invaded our country and were actively trying to take down our government... we might have a thing or two to say about that.
In fact, we were lead into two wars (Iraq and Afganistan) the last time something like this happened here in the states. - EntropyMan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8@bobthebruce123 (#6824261)
The Iranians certainly knew about it. They've been complaining to the world for months. The only people who were being kept in the dark were the American citizens. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8You know what's funny?
Rightards like thcobbs want this to be a theocratic democracy. He's made clear his view that the US needs the Church in the Gov.
So why is he afraid of OTHER theocracies?
And why is he too dense to understand what scares the rest of us about his desired theocratic USA?
You are clueless, cobbs.
Everything you fear from Iran is EXACTLY what the US does.
We are the most nuclear force on the planet, and we are the most aggressive nation (since Bush took power). WE kidnap people and torture them. And WE use violence to get what we want rather than diplomacy.
Are you really this ignorant, or are you just being a hypocritical dick every day? - MichaelBradley, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7The story is true .. straight from ABC
http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2007/05/bush_authorizes.html

U.S. Carrier group heading for Iran
http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=3203386 - EntropyMan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@dforty, I tend to agree. And I have the hardest time understanding how anyone who already knows Bush at least bungled Iraq would let him do it again with Iran. Hint: the people in charge are ALWAYS WRONG. Don't trust them, even when what they're saying fits your one's world view. They're lying to you, or at the very least incompetent.
If, knowing that, you still support war with Iran, wait for '08 and a new President. Iran won't have nukes for 6-10 years by even the most hawkish estimates. Why would anyone let BushCo make the same mistakes twice? Isn't that the definition of insanity? Making the same mistakes and expecting a different result?
However, I don't think Bush will care what you think. He'll do what he wants regardless. Which is why I say impeach. - EntropyMan, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9I just sent this note to Pelosi. AmericanVoices@mail.house.gov
I suggest anyone concerned about this please do something similar. Feel free to use this, edit, etc:
Madame Speaker,
After reading about and now watching a new ABC news segment on how the CIA may be illegally waging war on Iran (economic subversion is an act of war) and conducting what can only be called terrorism, I want to remind you that Democrats were elected in '06 to put a stop to this.
You are failing to live up to that responsibility in every possible way.
Given its rampant disrespect for the rule of law, passing a resolution calling on BushCo to stop this or even to simply "tie its shoes" will have no effect, and neither will pressure, publicity, or new restrictions that he can safely veto. BushCo will not comply with the rule of law. They have proved that to us, time and time again. And it's about time you realized what you're dealing with: criminals in high office.
The only thing that will stop them is removal from office. I deeply resent your assertion that this is a waste of time. Even if you fail, you will have at least stood up for the rule of law. And if you do not try, the country will hold you and other Democrats complicit in their crimes.
I want to be perfectly clear about this. I used to live in your district. I normally would vote for you. But if you do not impeach this President, I will move back to San Francisco just to cast a vote against you, regardless of who else is running.
This is your primary responsibility. I expect you to put aside all of your deal-making and compromising and do your constitutional job and remove these criminals from office. This news proves that there is no time to delay.
Sincerely, - bardamuclichy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5The USA will NEVER leave Iraq. The 'war' on terror will NEVER end.
That is straight from Mr Bush's mouth. Why do you think he acts so incredulous at the idea of a pullout timeline? If you're in the military, get out while you can. I sure as heck did. - jeffiek, on 10/11/2007, -1/+52) Vote for Ron Paul...Please!
Definitely. But let's not forget he's just one man. There's a lot of other politicians that need to be replaced.
I've read that everyone complains about Congress. EXCEPT for their own Congressman. That's how the scam continues. Everyone thinks it's the "other" politicians that are the problem. Guess what? The odds are 434:1 that you're wrong. It's YOUR Congressmen. And 100:0 that it's YOUR Senator. (see note)
Stop falling for the empty promises. Stop allowing them to bribe you with pork barrel projects. Stop being complacent. Get out there and find good people to vote for, ones that are interested in returning the US government to it's original intent.
Don't forget about state and local offices. Congress isn't alone in being willing to allow power to corrupt them. Everyone is susceptible.
note: OK, maybe there's one or two good ones I don't know about. That still leaves a huge percentage that need replacing. - jeffiek, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4If you want to live by the sword, and die by the sword, go ahead. Pack your bags and go to Iran, I won't stop you from getting on the plane. While you're at it, why don't you take your war mongering buddies with you?
- EntropyMan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Looks this this got buried. It's apparently off the queue with 123+ diggs. Good job, Bury Brigade. Way to debate honestly.
- dforty3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@EntropyMan... Sorry. I didn't mean to give the impression I supported a war with Iran, or any other country for that matter. As usual, I agree with your comments. I understand the Left-Right paradigm and how the global corporatists own both sides of the aisle. I'm sure that if someone like Hillary gets elected, she will carry on the "war on terror" fear mongering and use whatever false flag attack is next to continue their agenda. It will take someone like Ron Paul or Mike Gravel to stop them, but considering the power the military industrialists wield over the corporate media and considering the way they have influenced past elections, I'm unfortunately not very hopeful that either of them would make it through the popularity contest we call Presidential Elections. I think Edwards shows some hope, but I still need to do a little more research on him. He was my pick in '04, but I didn't know then what I know now. He could easily be another Bill Clinton who triangulates between the left and right's false outrage and forwards the agenda of the globalists with with a smile they way Bill garnered the necessary support from the Democratic Senate for NAFTA.
- EntropyMan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Depends on who else is running. I'd pick the best candidate who didn't support this war or this President. And I would be happy to move back to SF for six months or more.
- EntropyMan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@dforty, sorry, I was the one who wasn't clear. I didn't mean 'you' specifically. I was appealing to any people who might read this and feel that way -- no luck though, both versions of this story got buried before they got noticed.
- Albionshores, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2All the whitehouse needs now is another Pearl Harbour....
Could give a completely different meaning to the Manhattan Project....... - Albionshores, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3This is another act of war by the US on another *sigh* country.
Iran prior to the Iraq invasion had a pro-European attitude. It was only when Iraq was occupied did the old conservative politicians reassume power. And who can blame them? America had invaded two of its neighbours and had begun pointing fingers at them. It is America that is the agressor. Get the hell away from them.
Will someone for crying out loud GIVE this country its own nuke to defend themselves with. At least then they might be safe. RIght now I have more confidence with Iran being nuclear than I have with the US.
In generations to come Americans are going to be asking how the American people of yester year could allow this to happen just as Germans do today when regarding the holocaust. - Albionshores, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I wonder if there was a poll of American people titled, "who are the American people at most risk of being attacked by." where America would would appear on the poll.
- williamdyer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Another another?
- williamdyer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@populist
A nuclear Iran could insist that Israel withdraw to the Green Line. And Israel will fight to the last American soldier and dollar to stop that. THAT is what this war is all about. - DCB360, on 04/11/2008, -1/+1Covert operations shouldn't be posted on the front page of ABC.
Covert should be "If I told you then I would be forced to kill you." - thcobbs, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4At least people are finally starting to execute the mightiest weapons of political action: Their brain, a pen, some paper, and the ballot box.
- wintermd, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1did we forget 9/11 so soon
- thcobbs, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5You need to quit trying to put words into my mouth. I never called for a theocratic democracy; I have only said that people should be able to profess their faith(or lack of faith) in public how they wish.
And by starting off with a straw-man tactic... the rest of your argument is utterly useless drivel. - aceg1357, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2Just curious...who will you be voting for when you move back to San Fran? Or is it an empty threat? Don't tell me you were one of those people that swore they would move to Canada if Bush won in 2004.
- thcobbs, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2Will you QUIT spamming that *****?
Damn near every thread you've commented on has had a cut-paste version of that rant.
Yes, we know you support that; good for you... Just stop SPAMMING the crap. - thcobbs, on 10/11/2007, -8/+3@bustballs
You didn't answer the question.
Yes, thousands were killed in Japan.... Unfortunately, those bombs were used to save millions of US and Japanese lives that would have been required to subdue the Japanese mainland. - aceg1357, on 10/11/2007, -10/+2Sure glad ABC told the WORLD about the "COVERT" actions. Luckily these activist journalists weren't around during WWII or they would have told Hitler about D-Day and the allies cracking enigma. Thanks ABC.
- thcobbs, on 10/11/2007, -12/+4You wish your fellow citizens to be captured and tortured by a foreign government?
- thcobbs, on 10/11/2007, -12/+2Everyone here gets up in arms when anyone mentions god in our government... But when a true theocracy is possibly nuclear weapons, it's ok?
- thcobbs, on 10/11/2007, -14/+3Winter... if you're going to try to blanket spam thinkprogress with cut-paste insults... at least come up with better ones first. This is like the third article where I've seen exactly they same thing from you.
@dforty3
While that is a plan.... it seems rather naive. Do you really want to give more money to a TRUE theocracy (Iran) who is building nuclear technology and the technical means to weaponize it? - Junkyarddawg, on 10/11/2007, -15/+3Good. Let's hope they succeed. The iranian regime is evil, represses its own people, and it is a real threat to US interests. The world would be a better place if it fell.
These are tax-dollars well spent. - wintermd, on 10/11/2007, -25/+4Do the Dems have a plan yet for Iraq? Come on they have been in power fow how long? And no plan to win?
They sure suck.
