- Rizoh, on 11/27/2008, -13/+439No surprises there. War on drugs is a waste of time, effort, and taxpayer dollars.
- CalltoSanity, on 11/27/2008, -7/+293Since when has prohibition ever worked.
- d2002, on 11/27/2008, -6/+196A big win for the police state, though.
- shig, on 11/28/2008, -4/+174It didn't fail to make them rich and powerful. It didn't fail to lock millions of us into their private for-profit prison system. It didn't fail to destroy millions of lives.
Another success for the criminal elite. - naturalpapa, on 11/27/2008, -12/+154It's definitely a FAIL. But will they listen?
- seltaeb4, on 11/28/2008, -8/+118And in other news... without oxygen, you'll die!
Coming up after the break, the results of our 30-year investigative report: "Water—Is it wet?" - Harboggles, on 11/28/2008, -12/+102legalize it. NOW.
- dngermouse, on 11/28/2008, -11/+101i will always smoke weed
- roho76, on 11/28/2008, -4/+93How about the War on Wars on Stuff.
- Devine122, on 11/28/2008, -6/+87Quite similar to another war America is fighting...
- ChaSchva, on 11/28/2008, -3/+75Dear Gov't:
Please end the needlessly destructive policies towards nonviolent offenders.
Thanks. - ParasyteStuie, on 11/28/2008, -1/+67Didn't even need to read the article. I, and I'd be willing to bet a *****-ton others, just saw the headline and spontaneously blurted out, "Well NO ***** *****."
Right now a good friend of mine is sitting in a jail cell while his wife and kid sink into horrible credit debt. Why? Because his nosy neighbor called the cops on him when he noticed a cannabis plant growing in the expansive back yard of the house he just bought and moved into. He didn't even know it was there, and it was probably left by either the former residents or other neighborhood kids. That's just ONE example off the top of my head. - Adwt0125, on 11/28/2008, -6/+65Prohibition of alcohol didn't work...why would it for anything else?
- stutimandal, on 11/28/2008, -2/+57War on terror, war on iraq, etc. will follow later.
- tmyprod, on 11/28/2008, -1/+51It did wonders for the mob.
- Zarokima, on 11/28/2008, -0/+48Even if he was, what's so wrong with that? It's a very common native plant that has nowhere near the devastating effects of alcohol or cigarettes, and in fact has never (N-E-V-E-R, never, as in not ever, not a single time at any point in history) killed anyone -- which is something that cannot even be said of any over-the-counter medicine.
- positron, on 11/28/2008, -2/+47Big pharma, prison industrial complex, drug regulation and enforcement agencies, big oil, paper manufacturers, cotton industry, right and left wing scare-monger politicians, and various other powerful business and bureaucratic institutions beg to differ.
- jasdf, on 11/28/2008, -3/+48Just remember kids, methamphetamine has a 6.25% chance of making you hotter.
- pmctosh, on 11/27/2008, -13/+50May be a FAIL, but it has allowed all the connected services to really pump up their budgets.
- dizilbdog, on 11/28/2008, -6/+42Anytime you stick the word "War" in front of something it ends up Failing......
- xerigen, on 11/28/2008, -0/+36At least they had the respect to amend the Constitution when prohibiting alcohol. They just went ahead and banned all other drugs without an amendment. Since when can the government say what you can do with your body? How long until they start banning fast food and other things that are less safe for your health than marijuana?
I've never smoked anything or drank anything alcoholic in my life but it's my duty to defend it's use as an American. - weech, on 11/28/2008, -8/+43Instead of war on poverty they got a war on drugs so the police can bother me ?
~2Pac - emazur, on 11/28/2008, -1/+36Superior Court Judge James P. Gray also says the drug war has failed:
http://digg.com/educational/JUDGE_ADMIT_S_THE_SHOC ... - Egroh08, on 11/28/2008, -0/+32Yeah, having prohibition, in which the most popular illegal drug (pot) is far more benign than alcohol and tobacco, will only cause more money to be made by thugs and gangsters, also causing more crime too. It's a superfluous allocation of government money to try and fight it. Politicians need to get their heads out of their arses.
- nbluth, on 11/28/2008, -0/+30The war was stupid from the start, all it succeeded in doing was putting tens of thousands of people that right now could have been working to get the economy back on track but instead are sitting away in cells for breathing in some smoke or growing a plant in their backyard.
I have no idea who thought this up but I think that those people should be in jail. - inactive, on 11/28/2008, -0/+30No, Dupont, the cotton and Timber industry will pay big bucks the keep hemp illegal, like they did in the 20's and 30's.
- lisaawesome, on 11/28/2008, -3/+32Somehow I think a bunch of hippies would be for the legalization of most if not all narcotics. That does not seem to be the case in America now does it? I think you need to stop living in this right wing fantasy universe where the media all has a liberal bias and the evil counterculture is trying to overtake the good christian nation of America.
- TheKappa, on 11/28/2008, -7/+35Great, now can we get to admitting the war on terror a futile effort as well?
- bradleyland, on 11/28/2008, -0/+28I see a trend developing here: war is ***** when it comes to accomplishing anything good for the world.
- DrGamez, on 11/28/2008, -3/+29alcohol is a drug, why don't we wage that war closer to home?
tobacco is more harmful to your health than pot, so why can those exist? Is it because of all the money they have sitting in congress, doing their bidding?
Or let us not forget the fact the biggest contributer to the anti-pot ads are the tobacco people. It's almost as if they know the moment it gets legalized nobody will want their harmful addicting tobacco when they can have non addictive marijuana legally. - PhilLesh69, on 11/28/2008, -0/+26.....and making a small group of people extremely wealthy and powerful.
- bjornski, on 11/28/2008, -2/+26I won't ask you to.
Just don't ask me to stop. - Kidddrunkadelic, on 11/28/2008, -0/+24...and the CIA.
- inactive, on 11/28/2008, -3/+26That doesn't make any sense... every hippie I know of is all for legalization, at least of pot.
- Naieve, on 11/28/2008, -1/+24Yeah, we all know how many hippies are high on meth robbing banks.
- PhilLesh69, on 11/28/2008, -0/+23Well, the problem arises when there are very politically powerful people who have figured out that waging wars is more profitable than winning wars.
Once this is realized, they do not create wars that are winnable, the more intractable the better, because the longer you wage the war, the more cost-plus contracts you can create to make billions and billions of dollars.
All you have to do is scare enough citizen taxpayers, and they'll gladly see all their tax money funneled into the pockets of a few well-connected people for a false sense of security. - Zarokima, on 11/28/2008, -0/+23Benoldays, that's not the weed that killed them it's purely poor decision making. Same thing goes for drunk drivers: It's not the booze, it's them. Alcohol poisoning, however...
- inactive, on 11/28/2008, -4/+26Yea and there are other (insert amount here) people that take his place, so no, you are wrong, clearly you dont know how society works so please, just shut the ***** up!
- inactive, on 11/28/2008, -2/+24http://www.leap.cc
- PhilLesh69, on 11/28/2008, -0/+21It's working quite nicely for Corrections Corporation of America, and a whole bunch of other corporations who are making a nice fat profit and becoming more and more politically powerful.
- adrenalmedulla9, on 11/28/2008, -6/+26I will never smoke weed. :)
- inactive, on 11/28/2008, -1/+20Right, because use of a substance is a certain predictor of an early death.
How is using a "drug" different than drinking some liquor? Oh right, because idiots such as yourself run under the assumption that a line of coke equals a lifetime of addiction or a joint is certain to give you greasy hair and horrible breath.
Eat another Big Mac and go watch some more internet porn you ***** hypocrite. - Junior612, on 11/28/2008, -4/+23Consumption... Doesn't true capitalism count on consumption? Aren't we "capitalists"? Let's start selling this *****!
- seledoux, on 11/28/2008, -0/+19..with tax revenue that would be better spent elsewhere.
- penguinofspades, on 11/28/2008, -2/+21no, no it doesn't. somebody else fills that void and somebody who's only crime was making people happy goes to jail. somebody in jail on taxpayer dollars, and another dealer on the street.
- dOOBiEx213, on 11/28/2008, -1/+20^
You absolutely missed the point. It has nothing to do with the police, but rather the resources spent on funding these dirty ***** pigs as opposed to, let's say... Universal Health Care? - Vanderkeif, on 11/28/2008, -0/+18They hear, they just don't care.
- roodammy44, on 11/28/2008, -1/+19@AyaJulia
Don't blame the weed for your step father's laziness.
I know people who smoke it every day who are the best chefs out of all my friends.
All the people I know who smoke every day hold down decent jobs, which they are succeeding in and they are considerate to others. In fact the people I know who smoke tend to be the most considerate.
Your stepfather's dependency and lack of caring was probably down to some sort of depression in which the weed was a *symptom* and not the *cause*. -
