- Astark, on 07/17/2009, -2/+29Lamest spy assignment ever.
- SuicideMouse, on 07/17/2009, -1/+16Yeah, what you just did? Spamming.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -2/+14What if the terrorists froze themselves in the ice millions of years ago only to unthaw and take over the world? WHAT THEN!? :O
- milomilomilo, on 07/17/2009, -1/+12"I'm no spammer, but- www.clickmylinkplease.spam !"
- CaviMike, on 07/17/2009, -0/+9"releases unclassified.."
Welcome to the department of the redundancy department, please sit down and have a seat. - Senorchili, on 07/17/2009, -1/+10so wheres the crashed UFO in the ice?
- somberlaine, on 07/17/2009, -1/+10maybe they were watching for Russian subs
- serif69, on 07/17/2009, -3/+12...like they do every year.
- mikemehak, on 07/17/2009, -1/+9I heard Obama is coming up with an arctic bail out.
It's mainly going to involve margarine containers and eskimos. But they will definitely need to BAIL out when these bad boys melt - radicaldementia, on 07/17/2009, -0/+8The article is incorrect, it should be using the word "light" instead of "heat". White ice reflects light, which can escape the earth's atmosphere. Dark water absorbs the light and converts it to heat, which cannot escape as easily.
- Taiyoryu, on 07/17/2009, -1/+9Penguins live in the Antarctic. I think you mean polar bears.
- SuicideMouse, on 07/17/2009, -2/+10"Medea scientists asked for intelligence images of Arctic sea ice during the summer melting season, but these were considered unsuitable for public release. Images suitable for release were made, but were not made public until now."
Can someone explain what this could mean? Why were the first ones "unsuitable"?
I'm not a conspiracy buff or anything I actually just curious. - inactive, on 07/17/2009, -3/+10Well this could have been a good thread, but the crazies got here first. Seems to be happening a lot lately.
- punkcat, on 07/17/2009, -1/+8guess: showed possible placement of nuclear submarines.
- Xzelick, on 07/17/2009, -4/+11Why do we need to spy on arctic ice? Does it have weapons of mass destruction?
- BillE3, on 07/17/2009, -0/+7The agencies do not want to disclose just how well they can focus in on objects on the surface by satellite. Just like they do not want to share GPS at the same level of accuracy they utilize.
- WasabiBomb, on 07/17/2009, -11/+18-This message brought to you by your friends at Exxon.
- JHW539, on 07/17/2009, -0/+6Images that reveal the technical competence of the satellites. If we can seen items well enough to count buttons on a shirt, or take images through heavy fog, or something it is a state secret not suitable for release. The picture subject may be innocuous, but the picture quality, location, timing, etc may reveal critical aspects of the satellite that should be kept secret (like the awesome death laser a bored tech used to carve his initials on a polar bear's ass).
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -8/+14http://digg.com/politics/Polar_cap_sea_ice_Why_is_ ...
"Sea ice at Antarctica is up over 43% since 1980 and we hear nothing in the news, yet Arctic ice is down less than 7% and they’re all over it! We’ve been waiting for the main stream media to pick up on the increase of Antarctic ice but so far they’re been totally absent. Guess its doesn’t fit the plan." - DirtPile, on 07/17/2009, -6/+12I scream, you scream. We all scream for ice shelves.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -1/+7the post said that keeping heat on the earth is a good thing, it is not. We need the heat to reflect off the ice AND LEAVE our planet... Just like you, you idiot
- radicaldementia, on 07/17/2009, -4/+10We learned there's more negative effects of CO2 emissions than just warming, such as ocean acidification.
- jerbaker, on 07/17/2009, -1/+6Yep. As the air gets warmer over the Antarctic (but not above freezing), it holds more moisture. That means more snow which forms more ice.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -1/+6Pfffft. . . Like thats ever stopped us before. Next you'll come around with some ***** you call "facts" and expect me to believe the world is round.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -2/+7no reflecting heat send it out, absorbing keeps it here.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -1/+5I have to say this though, you are one of the more dedicated human spammers today.
- garyi113, on 07/17/2009, -5/+9Any pictures of polar bears hanging themselves like in An Inconvenient Truth?
- DankBuddz, on 07/17/2009, -1/+5No, its bad. Like radicaldementia is saying, the ice reflects the shortwave radiation coming from the sun (not all of it) back into space. However, the pools absorbs the shortwave radiation and spits out IR, or longwave radiation. This is what gets trapped in the atmosphere.
- Jektal, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4Why couldn't we just firebomb that iceberg? Or detonate it at sea? Or push it away with tugboats?
- rhdesigns, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3I'm not a spammer either but if you wanna learn how to make money fast, 3k - 5k per week working from home give me a call....
- Trent1492, on 07/18/2009, -2/+5"The earth has been drastically fluctuating in temperatures for millions of years.... Without our intervention."
You have committed the genetic fallacy of reasoning. Just because climate has changed for one reason or another in the past, does not preclude it changing due to human influence now. - inactive, on 07/17/2009, -5/+8"What's going on in the Antarctic?"
The ice is increasing there. - inactive, on 07/17/2009, -7/+10Neat. If the Arctic is indeed shrinking, it'll make quicker shipping routes available which will mean resources can be directed elsewhere.
What's going on in the Antarctic? - s73v3r, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3Then they'd have a rude awakening as they realized that Captain America was frozen there too.
- DankBuddz, on 07/17/2009, -1/+4@kiingdano
Again, you have no idea what you're talking about. - pathouston22, on 07/17/2009, -1/+4Hey, I know your not a prostitute, but will you have sex with me if I pay you $10?
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3You pointed out a grammar mistake and then said irregardless? Oh my.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3Well I went and buried the submission. Then I buried the comment. Then I reported it. I don't know if this helps or not but good luck none the less.
- Disgod, on 07/17/2009, -5/+8Buried for your incredibly stupid claims, argument from personal incredulity, and complete lack of understanding of the science of climate change and historical climate patterns.
- RogueGenius, on 07/17/2009, -3/+6I wish. Sadly, most right-wing dimwits work 'freelance.'
- DankBuddz, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3No, they were caused by the 40,000 and 100,000 year inter-glacial cycles that have been occurring over the last... I dunno... something-million years.
Science101 - Jektal, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3During the cold war I believe both the US and USSR set up arctic spy bases, and we regularly keep boomer subs under the ice.
- sanborl, on 07/18/2009, -0/+2It also doesn't mean we need to be naive in the face of media and 'warmer' pressure to dump our dollars in their laps.
- jba68, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Spawning Gigantor WAVES killing pretty little boats like the Albatross
- revisrev, on 07/18/2009, -0/+2lol
- DankBuddz, on 07/17/2009, -1/+3@kiing
Its just obvious that you have absolutely no education or awareness of the issue, that's why you're being buried.
Sorry to burst your bubble. - inactive, on 07/17/2009, -1/+3That probably has something to do with it.
- mikemehak, on 07/17/2009, -3/+5what if I made a movie about an ice shelf that has broken off and gone full BERG and is floating for new york city. But there is a bomb on that berg and if the ice berg doesn't melt by the time it gets to new york city it will blow it up.
So they have to try and warm the temperature of the ocean before the berg gets close.
I realize this is logistically impossible but I think it would make for a classic movie. It would definitely by the hit of the speed franchise. - shnizep, on 07/21/2009, -0/+2Keep putting money into Al Gore's pocket. All these global whiners could give a ***** less about the Earth. Follow the money trail...
