- Aidenag, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31This one sadly didnt come as a suprise to me.. after liebermans loss, you knew they had to find somthing to slow down, if not fully kill the Anti-war movements progress. waiting a few more weeks like the brits wanted would have let too much attention be drawn to the elections.
- DFrag, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24If we're anti-war...
Doesn' that make them anti-peace?
Just a thought. - kp3469, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25wow, just goes to show how much of a puppet Tony Blair has become.
- stylerm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Yeah, from day 1 when Cheney said Lamont emboldens terrorists, to day 2 when they got arrested on the news. Really looks like Cheney knew it was going down the next day.
- arduenn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11"... an attack was not imminent, saying the suspects had not yet purchased any airline tickets. In fact, some did not even have passports."
Why then did officials issue a Terror Alert Code Red warning? And what color will we get when something really happens? Ultraviolet? - silenceHR, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16since this whole issue started i always wondered why the hell did they have to stop _INCOMING_ airplanes.
now we see that these people have been under close surveilence and it was KNOWN they didnt even bought tickets.
i dont want to make threat lesser then it was, but whole media circus and everything was really completlly out of the line... specially when new facts (like these) are considered. - soll, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13I think the obvious answer to that is because they wanted to bring people's attention to this. The same reason security is "beefed" up at airports: to put on a damn good show that sticks in people's minds. I think if they were seriously concerned about liquid explosives they wouldn't be dumping and mixing them all together in crowds of people at the airport. There's also the fact that checked baggage is still largely not inspected.
Off the top of my head I can come up with three explanations:
1. The people making decisions about security really are that stupid and hadn't thought this through.
2. It's a show and as such more attention is being put on flair as opposed to any substantive security measures.
3. Suspect liquid explosives are actually rendered inert by magical homeland security garbage bins that work off of the frustration of travelers which necessitates they be all dumped haphazardly together as close to a crowd as possible. - nhaqueoi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9And finally, an alternative truth begins to emerge about the "terror" plot. Is it really saying anything we did not suspect, I wonder? Mass disruption, yet no airline tickets or, in some cases, passports. If a suspect was to conduct a dry run why was he not tailed first? I'm sure we haven't heard the last of this. What is becoming more and more shocking is the complete absence of trust in the British government. They have a mountain to climb if they want their public to believe in them. The top Google search result for the word " Liar " is ringing ever truer.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I'm glad our country is able to make its own decisions. I'd hate to think we just did whatever our American counterparts told us to do.
- poopypantalones, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10don't the Brits call Blair Bush's poodle or something like that? Watch after the Brits can his ass he'll get a job at one of these: Carlile Group, Halliburton or Bechtel - mark my words.
- Aidenag, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@geekee... me and my minions liberal agenda?? lol...
british intel is saying they didnt have tickets or passports.. and our nations leaders 2 days after a HUGE pro war loss, are saying the attack was just "Days Away"...
Only thing this is missing is for it to have happened in OCT! lol....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Maybe it was just a diversion, or maybe it was actually just meant to be an attention grabber for something else? Maybe to steer us in some specific direction.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Blair really is Shrub's poodle.
The whole thing is a load of BS to divert attention away from what's REALLY going on.
Now the US is entirely dependant on imported oil, it'll be interesting to see the "threats" posed by Venezuelans and Nigerians in the next year or two! - cybe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"The rocket bombs which fell daily on London
were probably fired by the Government of Oceania itself, 'just to keep people frightened'." (from George Orwell's: 1984)
(http://orwelltoday.com/stagedevents.shtml) - david76, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7That video is absolutely idiotic.
In the first 30 seconds it demonstrates incredible ignorance of how buildings are constructed.
Large skyscrapers have to have floors to house all of the HVAC, water, electrical, etc. systems. All of the duct work in the building flows into these floors. All of these floors are open to the outside and you can actually see a change in the pattern in the exterior steel structure at these floors. Why? Because the steel grating runs horizontally and is angled down so air can get out and rain can't get in.
Why do you see puffs of smoke coming out from these floors? Because the falling building compresses the air contained inside the structure and forces through the only available outlet, the HVAC system, via the return air ducts.
Even if buildings are detonated, they don't magically fall faster than the laws of physics allow. Anyone who thinks otherwise should probably go back to high school. - aldenhg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Midterm elections are coming up and the ruling party seems to have had a hand in creating panic over something that isn't an imminent threat while saying that the other party can't defend America. Can't say I didn't see that one coming.
Also, if the plan wasn't close to fruition why can't we bring our iPods on airplanes now? I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but the new airline regulations seem like one of those many tiny little steps toward a Orwellian state. Put a frog into a pot of boiling water and it'll jump out. Put a frog in a pot of cool water and put it on a fire and it'll sit there and let itself be cooked. - gregcotten, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6@beargins
You don't even deserve the click of the "digg down" button. - raid517, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah like I care that some of you guys don't like what I have to say.
Suck it up boys... there's plenty more where that came from.
How were these guys going to blow up these planes anyway? I guess with no passports, no plane tickets and the security service watching their every move, that they were all just going to strap on back packs and start flapping - and maybe just hope for the best?
Oh well, not that it matters anyway. I guess in another 48 hours they will probably have electric sparks shooting out their fingernails, or will be enjoying some 'waterboarding ' in some anonymous American prison somewhere as permanent guests of the CIA.
All for the sake of good international relations, hu? - jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Just goes to show, to the US administration, terrorism is a media spectacle.
- geekee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Yeah, because intelligence is 100% reliable, we should wait until they have the bombs ready and are walking on the plane to arrest them. Worked out great for 9/11.
- exsst, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I for one am just very worried of another attack. Not because of the actual attack, but because of the rights and freedoms they will strip away, and it won't just be in airports I suspect either.
I hope I am wrong, and I hope we keep our freedoms, but oh well, what's the worst than can happen?.. the human race dies and a few people survive on the moon, where (hopefully) they learn from our history on earth NOT what to do! - david76, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5The U.S. unfortunately did what it seems to do well. Jump the gun the hope of sparking fear in the minds of the Republican base.
After all, who needs evidence when you're above the law?
Signing statements anyone? - Obvioustroll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The story I heard on public radio was that one of their group had been arrested in Pakistan on another terrorist-related investigation and the Americans were afraid that that would cause the rest of the group to rush to get the attack finished.
- breakfastpants, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@soll
So you think that all the low level airport security folks dumping liquids were told there was no threat, and no one has leaked it out? Conspiracy much? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Just look at their track record in Northern Ireland, and people are shocked shocked that the UK government can do such things? GASP! REALLY WISE UP.
Oh wait, its that "beyond the horizon" syndrome. If it doesnt affect us directly its not a problem :) Until detention without trial came to the mainland it was perfectly ok in Northern Ireland. Until the fight was carried to London, it wasnt a problem.
Those who control the present control the history. Ring a bell? IF you shout it loud and often enough it starts to ring in peoples ears.
Ever think that there could be collusion for an different motive? UK government never colludes no not at all. Wrong.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6545313046180631815 Interesting to think about. - bobba, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Actually, Blair and Bush's relationship is whole lot more complex than that. Minutes after 9/11, Blair was on a plane to stop Bush from invading Afghanistan immediately. He succeeded, Bush didn't go in for a while, while Blair was flying around all the other world leaders getting them onside. Since then they have been thick as thieves. It seems pretty clear that they have a plan together. They are both the most christian UK and US leaders in power at the same time for a long while. Bush is the bully boy with the big stick and Blair tries to use the old British links to sell the plan to the other world leaders. Not always successfully. It will be interesting to see what happens when they both lose their offices in a couple of years.
- nocountries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thing is to keep keeping an open mind. You can speculate all youwant - you don't KNOW there was a plot and you don't KNOW there wasn't one. Lets wait for the evidence.
What we do know is that the Brits have framed people before - Birmingham Six, Guildford Four, the McGuires. They shot Carlos de Menezes; they shot one of the two Muslims they arrested in London recently...
so while healthy sceptism is justified, we have to wait and see and look at the evidence - that's what freed the above people (those that didn't die in jail) in the end. - beargins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@raid517
"pull" is demolition terms for PULL IT DOWN, anyways as i said earlier, dont take my words for it , do the research and i could care less about what you think about me so please dont waste your time. Now what if 9/11 was a big inside job, what are their motives and whos to gain from it? EH??? I guess you think that your government loves you, and needs you, and would never tell you a lie, and just want you to live a long wonderful cake filled life... Gyeah umm about that...
If 9/11 was an inside job, would you believe it? If it was an inside job, WHATS NEXT? oh yeah heres alex jones 2 months before 9/11 telling his listeners to "call the white house and tell them to call off their attacks"
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1222445722544874066&q=alex+jones+2001&hl=en - bobba, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3There''s a rumour circulating in the UK that the terrorists brought the attack forward by a week or so because Pakistan had lost the cricket series in England; the last match (this week's) is a dead rubber. So Mi5's hand was forced, hence the rush job.
Sounds crazy, but then blowing yourself up in a plane isn't really reasonable either. - beargins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1my friend I hope your directing that towards all the michael moores out there, i could care less about left or right wingers. I am none of the above, i am American, a real patriot, that LOVES what America is supposed to stand for, and thats FREEDOM, not submission, and fear, right? Yeah they knew it and didnt stop it because they were in on it. OKAY? is that so hard to believe? wheres the proof of the contrary? none? oooohhh a 911 commissions report? why not private investigations? REAL ONES, not sold out insiders. I cant believe so many people really believe this buffet of LIES. You guys know how all the communist govts censor everything, and fill their citizens with propaganda etc, yet you guys fall for the very same things!!! COME ON THIS IS DIGG, someone here has to be willing to DO THE RESEARCH, themselves and not give me these cliche left or right wing bull crap arguements. Why cant both sides be bought out by the same elite? I know you guys are good people, I am not here to attack anyone, I'm not even here to win arguements, I stated some facts in my earlier posts, people combatted them with insults (thats fine btw, do what you wish) but wheres the line? When can we start looking at hard cold facts, and open our minds, and stop acting like 5 year olds who will do anything to win. and for Jimbo, bush and kerry are both cousins, both members of skull and bones, at yale, both members at bohemian grove, out of nearly 300 million americans, both run against each other. Again, do your own research.
- raid517, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You ***** moron.
- raid517, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2You stupid loon. he's saying 'pull out the firefighters' because there had already been a massive loss of life and everyone that could have been rescued had already been rescued.
Can't you understand plain English? Or do you seriously think that the Fire Chief is suggesting 'pulling the building down.' With what exactly? Fire departments are not generally in the demolition business - and even at that such a demolition job would have taken months and months of careful planning by some of the smartest most high profile players in the business - it would have been an impossible thing to cover up.
The Fire Chief is simply stating the obvious that he had already lost many of his men in the first collapse and allowing more of his men to die in another collapse was simply pointless, because the situation by then was clearly hopeless. (Hence the utter sound of despondency and in Silverstein's voice as he recalls it).
Now repeat after me, 'I am a crass and stupid loon' - and try saying that manta to yourself at least 10 times every hour - because if you do, this may be the only way you can remind yourself just how far removed from reality your day to day ramblings really are. - KingZog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wish you people would read a bit more Orwell before you start claiming him for the Pacifist left
http://www.orwell.ru/library/articles/pacifism/english/e_patw
Pacifism is objectively pro-Fascist. This is elementary common sense. If you hamper the war effort of one side you automatically help that of the other. Nor is there any real way of remaining outside such a war as the present one. In practice, ‘he that is not with me is against me’. The idea that you can somehow remain aloof from and superior to the struggle, while living on food which British sailors have to risk their lives to bring you, is a bourgeois illusion bred of money and security. Mr Savage remarks that ‘according to this type of reasoning, a German or Japanese pacifist would be “objectively pro-British”.’ But of course he would be! That is why pacifist activities are not permitted in those countries (in both of them the penalty is, or can be, beheading) while both the Germans and the Japanese do all they can to encourage the spread of pacifism in British and American territories. The Germans even run a spurious ‘freedom’ station which serves out pacifist propaganda indistinguishable from that of the P.P.U. They would stimulate pacifism in Russia as well if they could, but in that case they have tougher babies to deal with. In so far as it takes effect at all, pacifist propaganda can only be effective against those countries where a certain amount of freedom of speech is still permitted; in other words it is helpful to totalitarianism. - elebrio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's easy enough to buy a fake passport if you have the money. And how do they know they hadn't bought tickets? If they were using a fake passport there is no way to know who would be the name on the ticket. (if they didnt recover the passport)
I call ***** on this article. - david76, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5@beargins
I'll just come out and say what lots of others are hopefully thinking.
ARE YOU RETARDED?
Did you even listen to the Silverstein quote? That was taken from a Discovery Channel documentary. At no point does he say anything about demolition. What he says is he wants to prevent further loss of life because they can't contain the fire. The fire chief says they made the decision to pull out. The building then collapsed from the damage originally caused during the collapse of Building 1 and 2 and from the fire which continued unabated.
And seriously, what do you mean when you end with "let's do something about it"? - Farticus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You don't need a passport or a ticket, if there is a fake one waiting for you the day you leave.
- beargins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"pull" is demolition terms for PULL IT DOWN, anyways as i said earlier, dont take my words for it , do the research and i could care less about what you think about me so please dont waste your time. - Jimbo19, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So typical. Who is playing games with terrorism here?
My God you lefties think anything that forces you to consider that terrorism is a real treat, is some kind of big huge conspiracy.
I mean if the governments had waited too long and missed, the same people here claiming this is a political stunt would have been saying " LOOK THEY KNEW AND DID NOT STOP IT".
One minute you claim they are evil geniouses manipulating the whole world around their finger, able to hold back and snag terror cells whenever they choose; the next they are bumbling buffoons who should have easily seen 911 or some other disaster coming a mile away with all their secret spying data they have.
Make up your minds. I dont think you all actually believe half of what you write, but you play like you do, so as to manipulate others into seeing a conspiracy in everything. And you will do this until you actually win an election, then of course you will say stfu when someone questions your newly elected politician. Your man will of course care very much, and be doing these things for the right reasons. - raid517, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2So how does this make Tony Blair Bush's poodle? I don't get it? The Brits felt they were on top of the situation and it seems like they told the Americans this repeatedly. It seems that it was the Americans who blinked first and who wanted these people arrested for pretty much just talking about some 'possible' attacks.
I don't know how you people think the world works, but in any case if you have security services and police forces working together - and doing so pretty much as partners - you can't have a situation where one partner refuses to act on behalf of the other. So if the Yanks got nervous and wanted these guys arrested, the Brits can only really put it off for so long until eventually they have to compromise.
But anyway again this sounds like another typical case of American paranoia mixed with some electioneering propaganda. It seems that most of the people who got arrested got arrested for what amounted to 'thought crime' or idle chit chat about what they may, or might like to do.
Unfortunately that isn't likely to stick very well in a British court - because (unlike earlier claims suggested) we cannot simply detain people indefinitely in this country without genuine and substantial evidence. Which is why I sense another farce brewing - where eventually most of these people will be let go because there is no real evidence to warrant their detention.
Of course it's possible I suppose that the Americans could request their 'rendition', which means they will probably spend the next few years having electric cattle prods rammed up their assess in Uzbekistan, regardless of whether they are innocent or not - but whether this really helps the long term fight against terrorism is dubious at best.
Far better I would have imagined to gather some real evidence, try to uncover the underlying web and support mechanisms and to learn where the logistics, training and support where coming from and how these things worked and then use all of the intelligence gained to take them down in a really major way.
This sounds more like a bunch of bored teenagers chatting on the Internet more than anything - although granted it could have developed into something much worse.
But the security services were pretty much on top of it - and I am certain (if it hadn't have been for the paranoia of the Americans) that if any real danger had emerged that they would have acted at an appropriate time.
Anyway Blair takes a lot of stick for Bush (and it's not entirely fair). Bush tends to go about the world ruffling everyone's feathers - and Blair goes about the world trying to smooth them all down again and trying to reassure everyone that Bush isn't completely crazy. But really this has nothing to do with the different approaches of the UK and American governments in combating terrorism in their respective countries. - beargins, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1well here it is:

- exsst, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0If you think (the guy right above) that the intelligence that the US has isn't good enough to shoot down planes which have been taken over, you must be ***** kidding.
The US has the biggest military base in the world, they wiretap everything, every plane, and it is impossible to actually take over a plane and still act as though it is on course.
Planes are tracked via GPS, and the pilots have frequent communication with other pilots to tell them where they are going.
The security department of america (if they weren't held back) would have ***** owned those out of control planes in ***** seconds by extremely fast aircraft or accurate homing missiles. - TruthElixirX, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Look! It is the "other" Loose Change.
- abhoody, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0lol @ that video.
- beargins, on 10/12/2007, -13/+6yeah 9/11 is an inside job, all the evidence shows, what evidence shows that it wasn't? check out some of Alex Jones films, or listen to his radio show www.infowars.com, he not only exposes 9/11, but the agenda of the NWO, and the world elite and what they are planning for the future of the world, and the near future of America http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=alex+jones . He even got on air on his radio show 2 months before 9/11 and said to his audience "call Washington, and tell them to call off their attack" found here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8184253307321536024&q=alex+jones
Ill probably get dug down, but I'm saying this because i love humanity too much, to watch a few bad apples ruin the whole bunch, if even the most conservative Americans knew the truth, i believe they would want our government elite hung for treason! because this time they have succeeded in the destruction of American prosperity. In the name of terror they will usher in a police state, and strip you from the very few rights that you have, antiwar Americans are already being called insurgents, if there is another govt sponsored terror attack, whoever isn't with the mother govt will be with the terrorist. Bush tried to declare that after 9/11! BTW Larry silverstein (WTC lease holder) admits to having building 7 demolished, http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7750532340306101329&q=larry+silverstein&hl=en -- it takes weeks to set up for a demolition, plus it was just a small fire in that building, and about towers 1 and 2... go downtown, look at the highest sky scraper in your city, and imagine it falling at free fall speed, perfectly, being 100+ stories high. Check out operation north woods http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Northwoods , govt don't care about the little sheeple of citizens they have, the average person will watch fox or CNN news and believe it 100%. There's so much more about the 9/11 events, NORAD, Tim Osmond ;) , but deep down you guys know that its true. So focus on fighting this NWO, exposing their wicked deeds, and crimes against humanity, and remember, THE BORDERS ARE WIDE OPEN! so why are they crying about so called terrorist on planes... when someone could walk across the Mexican border with bio, or small nuclear weapons? homeland security should have made the borders one of the top priorities , from day 1! Now the mainstream media is saying "oohhh there hasn't been a terror attack on American soil since Sept 11, there's gotta be one coming soon, its just waaaay too long!" yeah we know who the real terrorist are, those liars in power, world wide not just America. I wish this wasn't true, but it is, its the hand we've been delt, so lets do something about it right? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6545313046180631815
