- StarWarsFan, on 09/03/2008, -12/+64"If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won't act, we will."
--Barack Obama
Never mattered to Obama if the Pakistani government wouldn't allow U.S. troops into Pakistan. He wanted to invade anyway. Looks like Obama's War has begun early. - rhuxley, on 09/03/2008, -8/+44Bush needs to get Bin Laden or Al-Zawahiri for some Republican election points
- cptmichael101st, on 09/03/2008, -10/+43This is how you really do it, Russia.
- inchrnt, on 09/03/2008, -2/+29I don't question the method, just the timing. If this turns out to be something the republican party uses to boost election support then it is a grotesque abuse of power.
- trollick, on 09/03/2008, -2/+26Because countries do not attack other countries... in Europe... in 21 century.
- poprocksandsoda, on 09/03/2008, -4/+21Is this news? This has been going on for years.
- swrostmore, on 09/03/2008, -5/+21Yet another example of Republicans flip-flopping and attaching themselves to Obama's position, which they attacked him for until they started doing it.
- lquid, on 09/03/2008, -5/+21He is firing his entire staff and stepping down?
- Badandy127, on 09/03/2008, -6/+20We didn't attack Pakistan itself you nimrod.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 09/03/2008, -1/+12Unfortunately, Americans have shown over and over again that we are that gullible.
Please refer to the presidential elections of 2000 and 2004 for proof. - TheOther1, on 09/03/2008, -1/+12So did Jimmy Carter
- serif69, on 09/03/2008, -2/+13Considering that a security official in Pakistan seemed to have condoned the attack, I think you're grasping at straws there.
- InvisibleInk, on 09/03/2008, -1/+11Most are.
- Chainheart2, on 09/03/2008, -0/+10He's pretty outspoken about the war in Afghanistan and going into Pakistan if necessary to end the war there (and it is)
- thelastcivilian, on 09/03/2008, -0/+10...which shouldn't surprise you. "Grotesque abuse of power" has been the modus operandi of the current administration.
- iseth, on 09/03/2008, -7/+17Pssh, they probably already have him, and are just waiting until November to "capture" him.
- Rudegar, on 09/03/2008, -2/+11just people living there
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -3/+12I swear, if they suddenly find Osama (RIGHT BEFORE THE ELECTION), I'm going to laugh. Do they think we're THAT gullible?
- nostraboris, on 09/03/2008, -0/+8wonder why Bush suddenly wants to get Bin Laden, could it be an election year?
- cheese06, on 09/03/2008, -1/+9There are cross-border strikes on very consistent basis I do not know why this is considered front page news on digg.
"the operation have been carried out by Special Forces teams. Task Force 88, the hunter-killer teams assigned to take down al Qaeda and the Taliban's command structure, does not report to the conventional command in Afghanistan."
Task Force 88 = Delta Force with SAS, aka Chuck Norris - SixOrSoPapers, on 09/03/2008, -0/+7Acting != Invading.
There's a huge semantic gap between sending a few missiles and committing 100+ thousand troops to an endless engagement.
Not that I'm endorsing any military action, but you muddle the picture with sloppy terminology. - StGhurka, on 09/03/2008, -0/+6I'll take that action.
That's a bet I'd be happy to lose. - 4d669, on 09/03/2008, -5/+11Yeah, change... from Iraq to Pakistan.
- cheese06, on 09/03/2008, -1/+6You'd be giving Bush way too much credit for "planning" 9/11. Don't you realize that Bush sucks at planning? What makes you think he could pull off a huge conspiracy as you are espousing now?
- VitriolAndAngst, on 09/03/2008, -0/+5Jeez, WTF? Can't you guys on the right take any responsibility for your actions?
I don't disagree that this might not have been warranted -- but right or wrong, this is an action that the Bush government approved. Until Obama is sworn in -- I don't think he is responsible.
"Obama told Bush to do it..." yeah, that really works.
I don't think anyone here knows enough details to judge the action. It definitely infringes on Pakistani sovereignty and its going to make a tenuous situation worse. - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 09/03/2008, -0/+5Is it time for our October Surprise yet?!
- cheese06, on 09/03/2008, -0/+5DeuceDiggalow keeps digging into a deeper hole
- malignatius, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4Covert operations are going all the time. Iran, Pakistan, Syria.
Osama Bin Laden is probably all ready dead. At least according to Benazir Bhutto.
However I guess that certain people thinks he's more useful if the masses thinks he's alive. - twinklyJesus, on 09/03/2008, -1/+5Clinton obstructed justice, lied to Congress (perjury) which is why he was impeached. The bright side is: at least he got a blowjob!
- madfrogurt, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4There's a difference between an invasion and a military mission within a country's borders. It's a thin line and depends on the extent of the damage done, the length of the stay, and the goal of the mission, but there is a difference. Anyone who is equating the invasion of Iraq with a border hoping excursion into a lawless border area is misleading themselves and others.
- Slides, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4For Afghans, it's a territorial issue where they consider parts of Pakistan to be their own territory which is also one of the biggest reasons they hate Pakistan. This would be a little like Mexico considering parts of southern USA as their own territory because of the demographics.
- one2gamble, on 09/03/2008, -1/+5Why does everyone take their word for it when they say its a wedding party? How do you know it wasnt a Taliban Party?
you dont, end of story - Chainheart2, on 09/03/2008, -2/+6He's going along with himself, he's been wanting this to happen for a while and we neglected the opportunity
- bmdt2000, on 09/03/2008, -1/+5@ iseth
Everybody was saying this during the last election as well. I wouldn't count on it. - cptmichael101st, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4a little like picking a VP for the sole purpose of getting sympathy votes?
- zip000, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3Because that went so well with King Kong.
- fleischner, on 09/03/2008, -4/+7Nobody can be this stupid and still know how to type. Therefore, hello troll.
- Mr.Gone, on 09/03/2008, -9/+12Someone needs to tell Bush that a "scorched Earth" policy shouldn't apply to the country you are leaving after being it's president.
- VitriolAndAngst, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3I'm going to wait until we get more details before I comment on this one.
And then I'm going to wait, to find out that those details are a bunch of lies.
Then the conspiracy theory put forth by Daily Kos will get skewered by the 101st Blogger Brigade.
After that, there will be some third-party information that puts more details that support the Liberal Conspiracy Theory (LCT), and call into question the official story.
But then it won't matter, because we will be hearing about an attack somewhere else, and we will be getting Conservatives telling us about this new urgent thing that proves their violent ways are justified --without bothering of course to look back with 20/20 vision on all the times these theories were based on a pack of lies.
Meanwhile, we have Peggy Noonan admitting on a hot mic that they are lying to their base by supporting Palin -- but that won't stick because, we of course have this story were we are giving the administration the benefit of the doubt.
This could actually be something that needed to be done, or it's Bush getting rid of a rival drug lord that was eating into their profits. Who knows. - DekarCorvus, on 09/03/2008, -1/+3it will be al-zawahiri if anyone....
then for then it will be bin laden for the 2012 elections to keep a republican in office... - jazzguitar18, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2we should be worrying about our own asses now. Yes there's a lot of bad things in the world, yes we should have done something about it. But we decided to go for the oil and in result ***** our selfs. I'm sorry but we shouldn't be fighting anywhere, just worry about saving our own asses.
- nostraboris, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Americans will still buy the rope and scaffolding from Haliburton.
- thatsmyaibo, on 09/03/2008, -2/+4You act like it's an Apple Keynote to release new products. My guess is Bin Laden has been dead for a while now. Failing kidneys in 2001 while hopping from mountain regions wit poor medical assistance probably means he's been dead for a while.
- whatthefu, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2LOL YEAH a man with no executive power who is discussing foreign policy circumstantially is totally to blame for something the Bush Administration and/or NATO have done.
- APOI, on 09/03/2008, -1/+3You're either with us...or you're with the terrorists. We make no distinction between the terrorists and the states that harbor them...Oh NOT YOU Pakistan. You can sit down.
- 1337Einstein, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2I'll take that bet, looking at our success record in the region so far I'm not the slightest bit worried about losing this one.
- inchrnt, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2I should have said, "I don't question the method as much as the timing."
The fact that we killed civilians is certainly negligent and someone should be accountable for it. - tomarocco, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2WWIII
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -3/+5I thought we now support "territorial integrity" and individual state's "sovereignty."
