- AlwaysAwake, on 05/17/2008, -4/+14Punishing people, and locking them up like some kind of savage thing, is something our nation and society is "good" at. The US has 5% of the worlds population, and 25% of its prisoners. What's wrong with this picture ? The fact is, that it is good Beezness for Corporate America feedingt the public purse, fed by another Beezness we accuse of being our Justice System. It is about Injustice, not rehabilitation. See what Norway does about criminal behavior, if you want a safer society. It actually works. And in the end, isn't that what we really want ?

- DaDrake, on 05/18/2008, -1/+1well lets be realistic.... other countries have a bad habit of just killing them. The same report had Sudan as having zero prisoners..... hmmm.... wonder why....

- Fangsinmybeard, on 05/17/2008, -2/+11So thats where all the billions are going? They are going to build concentration/genocide camps.
- eltolete, on 05/17/2008, -2/+4Prisoners - the main commodity of the land of the free.
I think they'll ship enemy combatants to Afghanistan now. - beautifulady, on 05/17/2008, -2/+4The globalization of the US shift to fascism is evident. It's not enough that we warehouse our own undesirables, but we are going forth worldwide. Actually I think this prison is where they're going to put the people when they close Gitmo (erstwhile saying, look at how great we are, we closed Gitmo!!! God Bless America!!!). America as a bastion of fairness and honor is dead. All I can say to the people of the world is, I am sorry, I am sorry. But this is what happens when you get too comfortable; democracy takes work and dedication to survive. America got lazy and complacent, and now the US is a loose cannon on the planet.
- Stevanoski, on 05/17/2008, -9/+4Good for the USA! I understand you Lefties love having them free to kill Americans but I believe terrorist belong either in the ground or behind bars.

- izackcarson, on 05/18/2008, -0/+4This was inevitable. The U.S. likes to export all major industries.
- Dumbledorito, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Because we believe in the rule of law.
But much like our beliefs in Santa Claus, the second coming, and free trade... let's just say that you shouldn't bet on it. - da_bradler, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1At least if the US insists on building these god damn facilities all over the planet they could at least allow them to be operated/built by local workers so all the money doesn't get sent right back to the united states.
This is the biggest scam the US has going. They go to a nations government and go "Hey you guys could use a new Prision/powerplant/whatever. We will loan you the money to build it as long as you hire an American contractor to do the work and operate the facility." That way American contractors get paid big bucks and the American government gets paid big bucks in interest. And if the Nation is unable to pay back there debts America demands concessions like "how bout you let us build a military base on your land? or how bout you pass this piece of legislation(that benefits us)? Or how bout you give us your UN votes for the next 10 years?" not to mention the country still owes them the money. - lazerus9, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1The prison will be used as cover for the processing and distribution of the opium.
