- SteelChicken, on 04/23/2008, -12/+62so lets see the Euros get off their ass and do something, since everytime the US tries to intervene somewhere they just bitch and complain about how they do it all wrong. Or is there no financial incentive for Euros to care?
- geoffg, on 04/23/2008, -3/+36If the US sends troops it is labeled "Imperialist." If the US sends aid, the aid is horded by the aggressor and fuels the conflict. If the US leaves it to the UN to send troops the current situation persists. Define exactly how the US can "help" the situation.
- snubf1ghter, on 04/23/2008, -6/+29It is nearly impossible to solve this crisis because China and Russia have ties with the Sudanese government. Unfortunate. I know there is a lot of Bush hatred on digg, but at least he came out and acknowledged that Darfur is a genocide. He is the first president in U.S. history to recognize a genocide while it is occuring.
- mamboboy, on 04/23/2008, -8/+26I can't wait till my GTA IV arrives
- garryw, on 04/23/2008, -4/+22Dont blame the US administration, there are plenty of nations that COULD intervine if they wanted to. Personally I think France should send in some peacekeepers.
- elam82, on 04/23/2008, -12/+28You took the words out of my mouth...
I think the U.S. needs to stay out of other countries because obviously our help isn't appreciated - wpi97, on 04/23/2008, -0/+15Sudan has oil. Learn something, doh. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudan#Economy
- santaliqueur, on 04/23/2008, -0/+13You're an idiot that didn't realize Sudan had oil? doh.
- santaliqueur, on 04/23/2008, -1/+13When held up to a double standard all the time, it's difficult to be successful at all.
- superfusion, on 04/23/2008, -3/+15This Onion article is certainly dour.
Oh, wait.
The holocaust happened again and we didn't do anything. - NoStoppingUs, on 04/23/2008, -6/+18here's a revolutionary idea. how about the UN actually DO something for a change? crazy, i know, but it jusssst might work. bush bashers like to point the UN and say "they were taking care of saddam". yes, clearly they're the guys for the task..
- poidh, on 04/23/2008, -6/+17Please understand the situation in Europe. The leaders in Europe do not govern because they want to do what's right. They do so because it gives them money and power and hot supermodel wives. Sending troops into harms way is a great way to have the indoctrinated, cowardly, socialist population vote you out at the next election. This is why Europeans (with the exception of my country the UK) don't send troops abroad.
- JimSwarthow, on 04/23/2008, -2/+12sure man. have you taken a look at the annual interest-free outlays (FREE MONEY) that the US govt dishes-out to the rest of the world lately? -
you're a partisan, America-hating simpleton, btw. fk off with your myopic ignorance. - jmpeagle, on 04/23/2008, -1/+11they have oil...moron
- Gunsdead, on 04/23/2008, -1/+11The UN is impotent.
- musntSurfatWork, on 04/23/2008, -0/+10APATHY EXPOSED!
- inactive, on 04/23/2008, -6/+16EU , China and India, how about you handle give this one a go since you're always telling us how we ***** things up. You're always bragging about the decline of the USA, and how much better your economies are, so put your money where your mouth is.
I say we sit this one out and observe what the "intellectually superior" population can do.
This is gonna be fun. - elam82, on 04/23/2008, -7/+14All I'm saying is the people here will find something to bitch about regardless of what we do. Us helping them is no exception. Look at Israel, we are trying to keep the entire Middle East off their ass and everyone complains that we are allies for no reason. We help impoverished countries in Africa all the time but is never enough.
- inactive, on 04/23/2008, -4/+11Oh ok, so it's the U.S.'s "*****-up" in Darfur? Just like the troubles in Eastern Europe a while back that they all ignored too, huh?
- jmpeagle, on 04/23/2008, -0/+7what? Sudan's economy has been growing at a rate faster than China the past couple of years BECAUSE of oil prices. They are one of the largest African exporters of oil.
This is why China is so protective of them because of the long term oil contrcts and since they have veto power in the U.N. security council, that international body can do nothing for Sudan. - stinkipete, on 04/23/2008, -2/+8Thank god you said except the UK there... our leaders are certainly not in it for the supermodel wives...
- Monk22, on 04/23/2008, -0/+6the UN cant do ***** to anybody.
- Julik, on 04/23/2008, -0/+6Not to mention we send all kind of aid to countries like this everyday in exchange for nothing... and if for some reason we would have to stop dropping supplies in other countries (like the oil used to fly the planes over there costs too much) there would be articles on CNN about how much those people hate the US.
- inactive, on 04/23/2008, -5/+10Don't bother. If we even sent one troop, or even one cent of help, we'd have the idiots on digg claiming that we were "wasting money"
- lgfaphile, on 04/23/2008, -1/+6...but remember, "it doesn't fit the definition of genocide". -UN Human Rights Council
- jmpeagle, on 04/23/2008, -1/+6they do have large oil deposits...that's why China is protecting them...moron
- wpi97, on 04/23/2008, -1/+6Oh, in that case, there is nothing anybody can do, right? If the perpetrators of genocide don't wish to be interfered with, their wishes must be respected. \sarcasm
- jmpeagle, on 04/23/2008, -0/+5illegal? acording to whom? the U.N.? That's like me creating the United Nations of JMPEAGLE....anyone who doesn't do what I say is acting outside the bounds of the law.
- wpi97, on 04/23/2008, -3/+8Did we? We did fight in the war, but stopping genocide was not very high on the priority list. For example, we, president Roosevelt that is, refused to allow less than 1000 Jews fleeing from the Holocaust into the US. http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Holoca ...
- JimSwarthow, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4then move to a country that is doing something more about it.. oh wait, I'm sorry, NO ONE is doing anything more than the US is! - guess what? you're an idiot.
- PabloMac, on 04/23/2008, -1/+5The Religion of PeaceĀ®
- chicken59, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4Kind of like the Holocaust....
- cheese06, on 04/23/2008, -5/+9DAMN YOU CHINA! stop supporting these mass murderers with your oil money
- poidh, on 04/23/2008, -1/+5Remind me not to come over and help you if you get hit by a car, because for all I know you were just as guilty as the car which hit you.
- opticwind, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4For the record, no where in the Bible does it say "God helps those that help themselves."
- br0wnstar, on 04/23/2008, -2/+5no, no you couldn't say the same thing about Saddam. Not even close.
Besides, the reason was to look for WMD's. Nowhere was it ever stated that we should stop an 'Iraqi genocide'. - time4wrk, on 04/23/2008, -1/+4I am american and unfortunately, your comments have some truth America the country which I live in does consume a lot of oil. When I look outside of my office window I always say to my self I am so spoiled to live in a country where I do not have to deal with the hardships that other countries have. I was thinking about leaving the country and I realize that there is no other country in the world that has as much freedom that we americans have. So yes, America is wrong sometimes, and we so to speak take what we want but then again we did not become america by letting other countries walk all over us.
- br0wnstar, on 04/23/2008, -1/+4Dugg for most obnoxiously-ridiculous reaction to being dugg down. ever.
- lgfaphile, on 04/23/2008, -2/+5OK, then do your part by not buying anything made in China to redress the imbalance of trade. The strive starts with yourself.
- ksmcafee, on 04/23/2008, -2/+5the main issue that (whether we should be there or not) no politician is going to go after this one in the fear of things possibly going wrong down the road and it all coming back down on them.
if modern politics can take anything away from the past 8 years its that people don't like war-time mess ups on any level and you can be damned sure that any possible mistake will come allllll down on the shoulders of those on top.
its really sad but no matter what you think of iraq, the worst result of the war has been this very fact - politicians are going to be very very timid to send troops anywhere new, possibly too timid when we have situations like this that are really getting scary for the locals directly involved...kinda makes you feel sick to your stomach to know whats going on over there doesnt it? i know it does to me - sk11, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3Remember that sentiment when you need help from someone.
- jmpeagle, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3the UN serves more as a place where countries can talk....it's not really an international government.
- compdude32, on 04/23/2008, -2/+5gee pintomp you just proved elam's point, thanks for the link from a radically biased source.
- santaliqueur, on 04/23/2008, -1/+4You idiots need to realize that we are not the world's police. There are dozens of industrialized countries that COULD help. Bitch about them too.
- Monk22, on 04/23/2008, -1/+4sudans super awsome muslim extremist government
- designer, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3I wonder what group is responsible for killing these people?
- oldhick, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3What oil exactly are we getting from Iraq?
- flaknugget, on 04/23/2008, -5/+8Ask yourself what YOU are doing to help before you start pointing that little finger of your's around.
Using Darfur as a podium to vent your baseless hate for Europe is pretty contemtable. - BizarreNews, on 04/23/2008, -2/+5Rather negative opinion there buddy. What have YOU done to help ?
Just send the Aussies or Canadians in - they have been peace keeping all over the world for decades, and they don't whinge and moan about it, or go in guns blazing. -
