- freedomjoe, on 03/29/2009, -27/+155WHAT? America??? This is CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!!!! Wow. :-) Just wow.
FTA:
IRANIAN and American officials have held their first talks about ending the war in Afghanistan amid signs that President Barack Obama’s efforts to thaw relations with Tehran are paying off.
of course, it took UK media to report this. I can't believe this!! wow. - Andrewt522, on 03/29/2009, -9/+80Very exciting news. While it's not entirely good news, there are some points to build on. Let's pray for the best.
- woodsjransom, on 03/29/2009, -17/+72Now that is a change. Its going to be like walking on egg shells but dammit it is a change in the right direction. TAKE NOTES rushpublicans, this is how you lead.
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -12/+59Election DO have consequences
- AgeofMastery, on 03/29/2009, -5/+42It's a start, lets hope it leads to better relations between us and Iran and peace in the Middle East.
- Anomaly100, on 03/29/2009, -11/+43"We’ve turned a page to have Iranians and Americans at the same table all discussing Afghanistan,” Sergei Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, told delegates. A western official who attended the talks said: “For the first time in two years I’m optimistic about Afghanistan.”
The Repubs will twist this into something negative, but of course whenever "war" is mentioned, we should always talk before invading innocent countries....you know, like Iraq, for instance. I think this is great. - Jhiaxuz, on 03/29/2009, -3/+34Everyone loves Obama till the next Marijuana raid article and how Obama is an asshat.
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -5/+35Why do you hate America? Fascist Pig. I'm ashamed that people like you play a role in modern politics. Your Opinions aren't modern, nor is your language. I hope what ever Deity you believe in takes no mercy on your soul.
- novenator, on 03/29/2009, -7/+36Speaking of having nothing, it appears all you have are attactics straight out of the Rove handbook.
- Rantus, on 06/11/2009, -12/+40@Obamessiah too
You're a pussy, just like your neocon ilk. If you want to talk ***** like you do you'd better be in the service, and ready and willing to fight, in the dirt, to the death. Oh yes, let's casually bomb unarmed men, women and children. Hypocrite lowlife. Plus you probably don't know anything about Iran or Persians at all. Yeah, Iran is a huge threat, considering they have a GDP which about equals that of Connecticut and the majority of the Iranian population is pro-American.
How can you be such a coward? How can you just wave your hand and say "Bomb them now"? For every civilian that we kill at least two new enemies we make. If there is a radiological attack in the US you can believe it will be by somebody who lost an innocent loved one in a war we started.
And since when is it a sign of weakness to face your enemies and have a sit down with them? Just because Bush couldn't hold a conversation with anybody of reasonable intelligence doesn't mean that the Obama administration officials can't. I mean, seriously, Ahmadinejad came to the US and Bush wouldn't even speak to him. What a childish pussy. I would have been waiting for him at the airport.
Sit down and shut the ***** up already, you and the rest of the know-nothings that create disaster after disaster and blame it on everyone else. - inactive, on 03/29/2009, -7/+34You and the rest of the thugtards dont even know what that is referring to. It was hilarious to see stupid ass pundits from CNN making right wing jackoffs sweat when they asked them just what Chamberlain did that made them so upset. Suck a talking point, you fascist asslick!
- StateTheObvious, on 03/29/2009, -9/+34Talks with Iran about Afghanistan are not new.
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle ...
Worked so well the first time, might as well do it again, right?
PS...if something has been done before it does not qualify as historic. - zyklon, on 03/29/2009, -2/+26I don't pray, but I'll surely be damned if I don't hope this works! I'm glad we're shaking off that "bully on the playground" attitude and working for progress in the world.
- yutt, on 03/29/2009, -5/+27Tell me, what *do* you beat terrorism with?
Bush didn't even manage to catch Bin Laden. September 11th happened on his watch, after he ignored an intelligence briefing warning it could.
How do you keep going with this mentality? It seems like any person without a mental illness would realize has no basis. - novenator, on 03/29/2009, -5/+25You know where you can stick your trumpet
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -6/+26Grow a pair Obamessiah and refrain from strawman arguments.
- dty2010, on 03/29/2009, -1/+20We can love Obama and hate some of his decisions, or hate him and agree with some of his decisions.
- JenniferInMO, on 03/29/2009, -12/+30Wow! I sure hope we stay that course!
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -6/+23You lost that one, remember right wing ass? A bunch of nobodies kicked the ***** out of the rightwing and its military toys, and we will all be paying for it for years to come. Not a bailout with a pay back, but just dollars and lives flushed down the toilet for ***** rethug greed and war mongering. I hope they get their revenge on people like you and leave the rest of us alone. But Im wasting my breath, you would never be out of your mothers basement thugtard, would you?
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -11/+28george w bush is a pussy.
- sarahlee, on 03/29/2009, -8/+22Sounds like a great start. Interesting that the talks were held in Moscow.
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -7/+21You really are a sick piece of *****, arent you *****?!?
- SarcasticPirate, on 03/29/2009, -2/+15If your election lasts longer than four hours, consult your doctor.
- Rantus, on 06/11/2009, -1/+14Fact: You're an idiot and you don't know what you're talking about. Liberals are against unjust wars, like Iraq. Obama campaigned on ending the Iraq war and finishing Afghanistan correctly as it was a just war that Bush decided to ignore as he went after his war for oil agenda.
The one who is stupid here is you. - llopez1223, on 03/29/2009, -2/+15Did anyone see Rick Steve's special on PBS, when he went to Iran? Not only is the country beautiful from an aesthetic point of view, but the people seemed "normal," friendly, and non confrontational. Peace is obviously in the best interest of both nations....and while I doubt many if any problems are going to be solved soon, this shouldn't hurt the cause.
- bdbr, on 03/29/2009, -0/+12Clearly, not everyone on Digg thinks the same.
- SarcasticPirate, on 03/29/2009, -0/+12Christ, the election lasted two years and you never paid attention to an Obama foregin policy speech?! One of his big campaign promises was to re-focus our efforts on Afghanistan and fighting Al-Qaeda and the Taliban.
- Ins0mniakDS, on 03/29/2009, -10/+22@Obamessiah
In case you and your ignorant buddys haven't noticed the trend, let me call to your attention that you are told to STFU and crawl back to the backwood hole you came from after EVERY ONE of your posts! It's obvious that the world is beyond ready for real leadership. This is why Obama was elected. But the reason you get so much hostility, then dismissal is because we're also tired of you Rush Lemmings weakly attempting to step on every progress made by this administration. (Example: quick to report the decline in the market but not a word about the 20% CLIMB in less than two weeks.)
Haven't you heard the saying "Acceptance is the first step toward healing"?
Let it go man... - inactive, on 03/29/2009, -5/+17"You really are a sick piece of *****, arent you *****?!?"
He's just a pathetic little troll. - twiztidsinz, on 03/29/2009, -0/+12"If you are referring to Iraq, then I agree whole-heartedly."
We need a "War on Stupid" here in America....
The one war that would do this country some good. - wipis, on 03/29/2009, -6/+17So this is what happens when there is an adult in the White House......
- Ins0mniakDS, on 03/29/2009, -0/+11Why are you talking to this guy? It's like explaining physics to a puppy.
Let me explain... let's assume everything he said was true (except his meritless conclusion at the end...). He didn't even make a statement of HIS OWN opinion about all that or why he thinks it's wrong. Incoherent, inconclusive, ignorant, unsupported... You get an "F", child!
It's like a comedian on stage laughing at his own joke, without saying anything. You're wasting your time on this one. He won't even understand WHY he's stupid. - inactive, on 03/29/2009, -4/+14WTF is wrong with you- take some meds, someting! God forbid we have peace, and if you want peace - you must smoke pot. Go back to your bunker son!
- kenedamick, on 03/29/2009, -2/+12Just a troll.
- Steeple, on 03/29/2009, -1/+11nimrod was a legendary mythic hunter, it's used as a prerogative term because some stupid people watching a bugs bunny toon thought it was an insult when bugs called elmer it. look it up
- Danial, on 03/29/2009, -0/+9I highly doubt Iran wants to support the Taliban considering that the Taliban holds a deep amount of hatred towards Shi'as and their sect.
Just see how the Taliban beheads any Shi'a they get their hands on. - overridemymind, on 03/29/2009, -2/+11"Why is relations with Iran a good thing?"
So they don't attempt to attack (read: nuke) us in the future, for starters. I mean, picture 9/11... only with a nuclear weapon. If we don't want a situation like that to arise, the best course of action is to establish an environment where an open dialogue is a viable alternative to outright attack. Establishing an open-dialogue environment at least gives the opportunity to come to a diplomatic solution for a problem between two nations rather than "Let's send troops and kill 'em all!" -- which obviously doesn't work, as that political / foreign policy stance only serves to piss off other nations.
In the end, it is better to have SOME relation with other nations, even if you don't particularly like them. - SammyJr, on 03/29/2009, -1/+10The fact that the U.S. will sit at a table with Iran is historic. Where were you the last 30 years?
- stubear, on 03/29/2009, -6/+15Even Rove condemed these kind of attacks during the election. These are straight from Queen Palin's playbook.
- rjshatz, on 03/29/2009, -2/+11No, pacifists are against war. Most liberals are just against stupid wars.
- Spoomeister, on 03/29/2009, -0/+9I knew it wouldn't take long for an appeasement comment from one of the many Rush republicans who've only been around Digg since January.
(checks Obamessiah's profile)
Excuse me: since last week. - weeFred, on 03/29/2009, -1/+10Em....... don't all countries act in self interest? What has changed is that we have managed to find common self interest which might lead to better ties. The funny thing is, there's probably some ***** like yourself in Iran just now bitching about how all westerners are infidels and need to be killed, you are no better than them.
- NicoNicoNico, on 03/29/2009, -9/+18Why did this not occur to them until now?
- Jookly, on 03/29/2009, -0/+9You have no point to your argument. To think the government can only focus its attention on one event at a time is asinine. The U.S has already positioned ships in case anything happens in East Asia, which is completely unrelated to this article. There is no reason to suspend talks with Iran because of North Korea's missile flexing. Do you only want a report on one event at a time? These are happening simultaneously, so they are reported and commented on at the same time, it doesn't mean that one has taken a more important position.
- yutt, on 03/29/2009, -4/+12Because no one tried.
We had an administration driven by cynicism and damage control. - bdbr, on 03/29/2009, -1/+9There is a huge spin machine on both sides in the US. No matter what any Democrat or Republican does, someone will try to spin it as faulty. Its their job to keep this country fragmented.
- BSGAdama, on 03/29/2009, -0/+8because of this: http://www.antiwar.com/orig/porter.php?articleid=8 ...
- SammyJr, on 03/29/2009, -1/+9I'm not a single issue voter. I disagree with Obama on marijuana, the bank bailouts, and the tax cuts aspects of the stimulus, to name a few. I do agree with him on diplomatic talks with Iran. We need to turn Iran from an enemy into a trading partner, at minimum. This would remove any threat from Iran because you don't blow up your customers.
- Ins0mniakDS, on 03/29/2009, -1/+9BTW
Would the fact that you have John McCain listed as "Your Friend" shed a little light on your desire to diminish this accomplishment? Could this have anything at all to do with why you DON'T want people to be pleased with this administration?
:) I think sooooo...
A true patriot to The United States of America would accept the results of the election, and be supportive of the country in any way you can. Not continue to wish he fails... Rush Lemming! -
