- TCSavant, on 05/12/2009, -10/+350Such wasteful spending. I'd train them for half the price.
- inactive, on 05/12/2009, -22/+204That's it. We've officially crossed the line.
It's over. We're *****. - inactive, on 05/12/2009, -17/+189WTF!
- DeusNova, on 05/13/2009, -19/+151http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Research_Center CNS News are owned by these people.
Take it with a grain of salt people, these folks are no better than World Net Daily. It's just right wing propaganda. I'm probably going to get buried by the right wing brigade! =P - iBleeedOrange, on 05/13/2009, -6/+135Haha, theonion is funny...wait.
- morrissey79, on 05/13/2009, -12/+106I've lived in China for years now. There are pink light districts here, not red...pink. In Xi'an I had to walk past about a dozen brothels on my way home. Always got the "Hello, American!", that being the some of the only english they know or understand. "I'm Canadian, you dumb *****!"
"*****?...OK...200 rmb." - inactive, on 05/12/2009, -11/+104FTA:
“We want to get some understanding of the fundamental role of alcohol use and HIV risk,” he said. “We use the population in China as our targeted population to look at the basic issues. I think the findings will benefit the American people, too.”
I am blown away, you mean to tell me we are going to pay them so we can study how effectively hookers don't get HIV? - TimtheTaxMan, on 05/12/2009, -18/+104Me *hic* love you long time *hic*
Ridiculous… - ricker2005, on 05/13/2009, -7/+62Well at least the author of this article didn't have an agenda...
Sarah Palin openly bitched about how the US was wasting money studying flies. It turns out that anybody that understood the field knew that research was important. But if you summarize it as, "US spend tax dollars on flies!!!" it sounds pointless. Same thing here.
The NIH pays for craploads of scientific research. And the very last thing any of us should want is for the process of funding each individual project to be overseen by people like those commenting in this post (read: people who don't know anything about science). Is this study worthwhile? Couldn't tell you. I work on colon cancer, not alcoholism. But just like I don't expect an expert on alcoholism to understand my research, I'm not egotistical enough to believe I fully understand theirs and can make judgements on whether they deserve funding. - malex, on 05/13/2009, -13/+63Somehow, I don't quite trust the Christian News Service to get the full scope of the story.
- macslut, on 05/13/2009, -3/+52Really??? You're going to call someone who lives half-way around the world and sees you on the street a "dumb *****" because she thinks you look like you're American instead of Canadian?
Just a thought, but maybe not acting like an rude obnoxious ass would help avoid the confusion. - alpharaptor, on 05/13/2009, -2/+46why are we outsourcing drunken hookers?
- JCEEZ, on 05/13/2009, -1/+44I've lived in 3 countries and have visited over 20. Canada's international identity is "we're not American". Seriously, it's kind of lame.
- quirkopatra, on 05/12/2009, -12/+55Makes you wonder what other spending we aren't being properly informed about.
- Witchboy, on 05/13/2009, -9/+50Buried for lying, sensational headline.
FTA:
"...we propose to develop, implement, and evaluate a venue-based alcohol use and HIV risk reduction intervention focusing on both environmental and individual factors among venue-based FSWs in China," says the abstract. “The purpose of the project is to try and develop an intervention program targeting HIV risk and alcohol use,” Li told CNSNews.com. “So basically, it’s an alcohol and HIV risk reduction intervention project." - Xinderen, on 05/13/2009, -0/+33I live in Guilin, but pink light district here too. Massagy? Massagy?
Me: How much for a Massage? 按摩是多少钱呢?
Lady: 60 kuai. 60块。
Me: Thats too expensive! 那么贵啊!
Lady: sex, sexy sexy
Me: Thats too cheap! 太便宜了! - phillykid162, on 05/13/2009, -9/+40The grant was made in Nov 2008. *****.
- xtreme571, on 05/13/2009, -1/+30nope...u don't get *****...the trainers get *****.
- horanghee, on 05/13/2009, -0/+29Why did you stop with your story, morrissey79?
- Balanced, on 05/13/2009, -4/+31Technically, you are from the continent of North America, so 'American' is somewhat correct.
- kasjogren, on 05/13/2009, -1/+28Exactly, nowhere does it say where I can sign up for this program.
- inactive, on 05/12/2009, -10/+33The president is not authorized to spend money. That is under the control of Congress. And who's been in control of Congress for the past few years? The democrats!
I blame the public schools. This country has been going down the toilet ever since they stopped teaching civics. - maz2331, on 05/13/2009, -1/+23What a waste of money. We have American hookers who need help first!
- DangerCollie, on 05/13/2009, -4/+26"The grant, made last November..."
So the last administration was handing out money to their buddies because the right wing pork fest was coming to an end.
Hopefully someone in the new administration will re-direct these funds. $2.6 million could send 3,000 people here through rehab. The success rate is around 10%, so that would be 300 people off public assistance and back being productive. That sounds better than training Chinese hookers. - Rapter09, on 05/13/2009, -0/+22Hey, where's your standard-issued Canadian flag patch? I thought none of us left the country without one.
- angers, on 05/13/2009, -0/+22I admit it... I scrolled up.
- phillykid162, on 05/13/2009, -7/+29November 2008 was when the grant was made. Sorry to disappoint the obama bashers. Go bitch about the stimulus package some more.
- ChronicColonic, on 05/12/2009, -16/+33That gives drinking and driving a whole new perspective...
- inigomntoya, on 05/13/2009, -1/+18I could probably undercut you. Depending on how many there are...
- durangotang, on 05/13/2009, -6/+23Canadians have always had little dick syndrome in regards to the U.S. It's their problem. As an American who moved to Toronto for a while, I had the unfortunate experience of finding this out firsthand. Now let me say, Canadians are a pretty relaxed nice people, and I generally like them a lot. But I actually walked into a bar, showed my US identification and had a bartender look at me point blank and kick me out (for being American). I didn't even get a chance to say anything.
I lived on Yonge/Finch, and about 2 blocks from my place was an Indigo Books chain store similar to our Chapters or Borders. When you walked inside there was a giant mural that said "The world needs more Canada" with a huge Canadian flag underneath. All the time I would hear a steady stream of propaganda crap like "Canada is number two in technology globally, eh" and on and on...This was before 911 and the Iraq war, and their patriotism actually rivaled ours after 911.
I found it very off putting, and needless to say I loved South Park the movie. - chronopublish, on 05/13/2009, -2/+18Fully recognizing your comment is far from serious, I feel socially obligated to point out that "double-wrapping" actually increases risk, due to the extra friction between the condoms.
- d4nie1, on 05/13/2009, -8/+24Meh, I'm not going to believe an article with such obvious spin from a right wing news source. Show me an article on this from a real news source and then I will pay attention.
- inajeep, on 05/13/2009, -0/+16It's way past broke already. Where have you been?
- notoriousbob, on 05/13/2009, -1/+14Yeah, article sadly didnt really relate to the headline.
- WiscoEnginerd, on 05/13/2009, -1/+14No. They're going to spend $2.6 Million to discover that getting drunk makes not using a condom seem like a great idea.... HIV? Pffffffft... pass the bourbon.
I'm blown away as well... just never gonna let it be by a Chinese "FSW" - phillykid162, on 05/13/2009, -2/+15Who was president on Nov 2008?
- chumscrubber, on 05/13/2009, -2/+15Gives pork a whole new perspective.
- sHockz, on 05/13/2009, -1/+14someone point me in the direction of the drunk asian hookers, i gots the yellow fever
- FreckleEars, on 05/13/2009, -2/+14HEY HEY HEY!!! I am Canadian and I can tell you this; most Canadians who live outside Ontario and Quebec can't ***** stand them. Most Americans stop over in Ontario and Quebec so these are the ***** you deal with. They are the bitching complaining commerce center of Canada. When they hate American's, they are really hating the dumb Bush lovers/Texas since they have the worst reputation and end up on the news the most. It gives them no excuse to treat you like that though.
My ONLY problem with Americans are the old religious rich ***** who drive Winnebago's here. I was working at a grocery store and 10 American retired seniors came in. They asked me "Do you carry pickled grape and asparagus mix" or something ***** up like that. I politely said no and that I have never heard of it, to which they replied calling my hometown a "little town of retarded hics." I looked at them and walked away. That is ***** RUDE and is not fit for anyone.
Other than those people, every single American I have seen and have interacted with has been nice, welcome, and kind. You ran into the ignorant Ontario and Quebec people. They think they are the *****, when they aren't even the best of provinces. I'm sorry you ran into those ***** up there durangotang. We don't like them either. =)
Just to clarify to JCEEZ, we do have to say we aren't American. It makes most of us feel better than you guys for no other reason than some believing we have a better country (I am not saying Canada is better or the US is better). I generally don't say I am American, but I also don't say I am from anywhere other than my home Province really. We get annoyed with people calling us Americans to the same degree as a Chinese person is offended when you call them Japanese/Korean etc.
Canada has a different history to the US, different Money, different Education and Health systems, different terrain, different stances on immigration, different stances on war and diplomacy etc.
We are no more like the US than the UK, Australia etc. I often get annoyed when I am confused for an American. The only reason our "identity is 'we're not American' " is because you guys put our population out nearly 10 to 1 and we are the sister nations of trade and peace. - DevilInPgh, on 05/13/2009, -7/+19Um, CNS? No other website is reporting this. You would think that if it were true more people would be talking about it. Buried.
- SpookyBoots, on 05/13/2009, -1/+13Who said hot?
- Shwaavay, on 05/13/2009, -1/+12I think you mean the last Congress... since they control the money and all...
- Khiva, on 05/13/2009, -2/+12I had a buddy in London who had a Canuck working in the office. Just to get under his skin they'd call him the "almost American."
Seriously though, nationalism is something I've never quite gotten. If I walked into any store that was hanging an American flag that said "The world needs more America!" not only would I want to cover my eyes in shame, I'm pretty sure everyone but the most die-Hard Limbaugh-nauts would too. I mean, am I missing something here? - Duffle, on 05/13/2009, -0/+10200RMB is about $30 USD, by the way.
- horanghee, on 05/13/2009, -1/+11Yeah, send it to bank whores instead.
Listen, if you've ever spent any time working with drunken Chinese hookers, then you'd be more inclined to support this funding. - Shwaavay, on 05/13/2009, -5/+15@kasjogren
No not creationism. They started teaching political correctness instead of civics. - inactive, on 05/13/2009, -9/+18It's about the general wastefulness of federal government spending, not about Obama.
Please snap out of it. - amprather, on 05/13/2009, -3/+12Is there a Taxpayer discount?
- Jhonka, on 05/13/2009, -2/+10'05 November 2008' article/announcement on the Wayne State University web site.
Guess it was a goodbye present from our old friend and his minions. - inactive, on 05/13/2009, -0/+8because American hookers are overqualified.
