- Dumbledorito, on 10/11/2007, -0/+50Without being able to read the actual communique, I'm guessing either the threat was misinterpreted (they put more marshals on flights, thinking that's where the attack would be) or too vague to be particularly useful. "Possible terror attack against airport infrastructure or aircraft" is about as actionable as data gleaned from a fortune cookie.
- growler1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24I love, love, love the people of the UK for refusing to be terrorized. One Glasgowedgian even started kicking the driver of the flaming jeep after he bailed. Love it.
- whatthefu, on 10/11/2007, -7/+25And look at all the lives they could have saved! Wait..
- catalysis, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15If the US said something, you would have bitched about it being a scare tactic.
- Dr.Finger, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10The article says it wasn't released to the public, but the UK gov't was apprised of the threat.
- blubolt, on 10/11/2007, -4/+14UUUhhhhh ............. the other reports I have read about this have mentioned that there were extra barriers put in place a few weeks ago. I think we did share the info....... what possible good would it do to withhold the info? Divulging and thwarting any plots goes a lot further toward justifying clandestine monitoring because it gives people a sense of security (however false it may be) LIBERAL CONSPIRACY THEORISTS need to pull their heads out and breathe a little fresh air. You stand up for your rights by voicing your opinion to you representatives and making solid, fact based arguments in public. That's how we pulled down that immigration bill fiasco. Believe it or not - politicians remember who they work for if you remind them.
- MrLunar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Oh right, you "allege" it...therefore it MUST be true.
- NYGiantsNYYanks, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10So many people think that the government is just a big conspiracy to ruin the lives of everyone. Get off your damn high horses and if you think you can do better, run for office! The government gets all kinds of threats and deals with them in different manners. Terror attacks aren't occurring so that our government can spy on us, they are happening because these radical Muslims want us dead. End of story.
- dimebags, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8i wonder if there are any airports that don't have terrorist threats against them?
- BigCheezy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6One has to wonder how many of these "warnings" they get, and how many of those are actual threats and how many are just empty words.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6this is digg remember, no one on here remembers the IRA and the whole northern ireland thing they all think terrorism started in 2001 with the WTC
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5except gordon brown the new prime minister is scottish
- graystar, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8Maybe, but when you combine evidence of Friday in London you might consider a few other options. Glasgow occurred after London remember.
- Archimboldo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Isn't it obvious? Weed from the UFO's that gave him his scoop about the 9/11 inside job.
Apparently the aliens also use the word terrorism to mean something other than deliberate, systematic attacks on civilians. - tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Exactly. But of course it's also our fault that Al-Quaeda terrorists hit the Czech airports. Or was that just scare tactics? We just can't win.
- withoutashovel, on 10/11/2007, -5/+10So most times we're wrong just to cause paranoia. Then the few times we're right terrorism just flies over our heads.
- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7It's crazy. Damned if you do, and damned if you don't.
- struds, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4you know i can't stop thinking how these terrorist attacks seem like the old enemy (as put in spooks) the IRA, i mean look at them, lots of publicity, lots of disruption to infrastructure people not being able to get to work etc central London car bombs that put out some smoke and take hours to make sure are safe, a jeep drives into a wall at Glasgow airport, not much of a bomb, know they could of hit a better air port, but security would've been greater too) but low casualties. I'm not saying it is the Irish, but the tactics are simular
- zadadka, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I'm guessing not many Glaswegians read Digg, since it rests to a sassenach to laugh at growler1's identifying them as "Glasgowedgians"....
- dimebags, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4well, i mean by country: http://www.internetworldstats.com/top20.htm
- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Less than a day after. Obviously, if there are car bombs in London, move your people to London, then look at other possible terrorist attacks. As Dumbledore said, the warning wasn't "A flaming SUV will drive into Glasgow", so they probably put more marshals on the planes and concentrated on protecting London.
- Pokelicious, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Ummm. Scotland is part of the Great Kingdom, its not ruled by the English. Even the staunchest Scottish nationalist wouldn't say they were under English governance.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I think you'll find that a disproportionately large number of UK troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are from Scotland.
- weeFred, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3You are an ignorant *****, do you just make something up in your head and then treat it as fact? The Scottish Parliament governs Scotland, the prime minister is Scottish, we also have quite a few members of the cabinet, Scottish MPs have a say in what happens in the day to day running of England, there are also thousands of Scottish troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. In future do some fact checking before you spout your *****, who knows you may even educate yourself enough to realise that the western world isn't out to get you.
- spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Wasn't complaining at all, but the idea that Scotland is 'suppressed under English governance' is idiotic, and I was showing why.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Hind sight is 20.20 huh?
- Stevethegreat, on 10/11/2007, -6/+9You know, Glasgow attacks make no sense at all in the greater scheme of things. If indeed it is "Arab extremists" then the thing makes even less sense, I mean Scotland has nothing to do with Iraq, Afghanistan and other American-driven wars, in fact they're about in the same situation as the "suppressed" people of Middle East, under English governance and such.
If the people who made the attacks had connections with Al Qaeda then Al Qaeda -officially- does not battle the West but actually helps the politics of fear that the USA and British government have initiated, they actually help the corrupt part of the Western civilization. Such attacks are exactly what governors of the West want and making them happen in irrelevant places it only enforces that floating feeling. Al Qaeda acts exactly the way CIA works, it put affiliates make the turmoil while it melticously organize everything from the behind, you can't get out of my mind that CIA and Al Qaeda are NOT foreign bodies, one with the another. - Adgeman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Did you think before writing that crap? As other's above have posted, a significant number of the BRITISH troups fighting are from Scotland. The current Prime Minister and previous Prime Minister are both Scottish (look it up for Blair; he was born in Scotland). Oh, and talk about the Scots not having representation is pure crap. Scotland has its own legislature (in a fantastically expensive parliament), it has it's own laws and its own national anthem - a lot more than the English have. Parliament in London - British Parliament and 'God Save the Queen' is the British national anthem; there is no English national anthem.
- jmorgan1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3really, history has proven this?
- mithrasinvictus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4only if it was meant to succeed.
- nosecohn, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Well, some part of the counter-terrorism effort is working. The best these guys could do was leave a couple crude car bombs parked on the street and ram another one into an airport terminal, resulting in zero deaths. You can be sure they've been probing our defenses, so if this is all they could come up with, I have renewed faith in our law enforcement efforts.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2There's a difference between "keeping the entire country in a state of paranoia" and "trying to prevent specific threats gained from intel".
- 450bigblock, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You just keep telling yourself that. You talked ***** thinking i wouldn't be anywhere near colorado and when you found out i was you act like you don't know anything. That's the definition of weak.
- spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Scotland has it's own parliament. If anything they actually have control over England, since they can vote in our affairs and we can't vote in theirs.
- 450bigblock, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2That's what i thought. You're the one who wanted to know if i lived in or near colorado, and i told you i do. Now you're just being a pathetic little bitch acting like you didn't try to start ***** and then back down. Give it up *****, you're nothing but a coward who isn't ready for the real world. You need to think twice before shooting your mouth off from now on. And you don't have to come to Texas, because i'll be in Aurora, colorado next month. If you want to try talking ***** to my face, just let me know.
- mithrasinvictus, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Its a 2 party system. running for office is useless.
- 450bigblock, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Shut the ***** up with the "they want us scared" *****. If you're too ***** stupid and delusional to not realize that there actually are millions of muslims whose sole purpose is to force their way of life on the world and kill those who don't comply, fine. But i'm sick of hearing the same old ***** from little worthless ***** like you.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2yeah...
WTF!? - spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3They drove a car into a wall, at relatively low speed, and the only people hurt were the people involved. Doesn't scare me one bit. All the 'terror' is coming from the government and media overplaying it.
- jull1234, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Al-Jazeera?
- Zarchon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Dude, you are one major nut job. Even your name says whacko.
- Cymrubeats, on 10/11/2007, -16/+17Or perhaps they just didn't bother passing the information on, so things like this: http://digg.com/politics/Lieberman_Uses_British_Terror_Plot_To_Call_For_More_U_S_Domestic_Spying could continue.
- dimebags, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3and why aren't *you* smoking it?
- Myonosken, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Er no. You're putting forward an opinion based on comments....for a US show? We're both from the UK and can tell you the response has been anything but "OH *****!". The BBC even had a report on how people, just an hour after both sets of attacks, were just walking past the area.
And yes, the comments about the US weren't baseless. If you look at any video or footage of any attack on the US, there's always people running around going "OH my god. Oh my god. It's the end. OH NOES!" - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This is ridiculous. The Scottish Parliament has only a few devolved powers - it is completely necessary for MPs from Scotland to remain in the Commons as there are many issues which affect this part of the UK which are outwith the Scottish Parliament's control.
There's that and the fact that there are far fewer Scottish MPs than English ones. Remember also that both Wales and Northern Ireland have similar devolved Governments yet you don't complain about them. - JohnP, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Youre over there spouting your ***** about how the UK is overreacting, with absolutely no evidence. I know because i read all your moronic replies over there too.. Whats your IQ? You have the intelligence of a small child.
P.S. Love your theory that the gay pride march was gonna go past at 2am and get blown up... - FunkyNuts, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Par for the course, here.
- Myonosken, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Oh god. This is priceless. The insane left comment AND texas for a name.
- rainergamer, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Why don't you keep your eyes glued to the baseball game and off the Digg site, you ***** retard NYGIANTSNYYANKS
