- jackyan, on 02/03/2009, -10/+11I know a few American vets from the most recent conflicts. The brother of a friend was near suicide not from PTSD but from people critical of the War on Terror back in the US who took it out on him, calling him a murderer, etc. I don’t know if these other victims had similar experiences from their compatriots but it would be awful if that were the case.
- MacEnvy, on 02/03/2009, -3/+10I don't know where you live, but where I'm from, even the most strident anti-war protesters don't hold it against the troops. In fact, they usually cite troop welfare as a primary reason for their involvement, and hold great respect for those that serve.
I'm of the age where I have friends and old classmates currently serving, and I've never heard anyone my age say word one against them. - humanerror, on 02/03/2009, -3/+11Yup. I'm going to go out on a limb and say jackyan is a liar.
Hey jackyan, you're a liar.- jackyan, on 02/06/2009, -1/+1Hey, thanks for the guilty till proved innocent approach.
Disagreement I can accept. Mistrust as a first position—what a sad world you must live in.

- inactive, on 02/03/2009, -4/+9I smell BS jackyan. I know plenty of vets, the healthiest ones are the ones that came back and joined Iraq Veterans Against the War.
http://www.ivaw.org- Cavalier581, on 02/04/2009, -1/+1Yeah, well I know plenty whose active duty status prevents them from being in organizations like that. And they get spat on all the time. So I guess everyone has a different experience.
- jackyan, on 02/06/2009, -0/+1I have no reason to doubt the veteran’s sister who relayed his experiences to me and which I restated here.
We all hear or experience different things.
- Batfishy, on 02/03/2009, -2/+11Jachyan - just making up ways to blame the anti-war folks for this, huh?
I'm with humanerror - I smell a lie.- jackyan, on 02/06/2009, -0/+1Not at all—I’m just restating what I was told. That’s the only near-suicide I know of, so I commented.
I don’t mind disagreement, but it’s a bigger pity you guys can’t accept a man at his word.
As for the anti-war position, I ran for Parliament for a left-wing party opposed to the War on Terror.
