- V1ruk, on 11/05/2009, -2/+58That's right, we're above such petty tasks.
We outsource now. - MrSteamTank, on 11/05/2009, -4/+56Business as usual.
The only positive element I can find is that this information is becoming easily accessable so we're at least no longer in the dark as much. - elliotys, on 11/05/2009, -10/+59Can't believe I am quoting a fox news guy, but Shep Smith summed it up pretty good,
"WE DON"T ***** TORTURE" - inactive, on 11/05/2009, -6/+41Wont ever happen. Americans are too busy arguing partisan ***** to realize the government ,regardless of political affiliation, is not looking out for their best interests.
- frcc, on 11/05/2009, -4/+39It hasn't stopped. Gitmo hasn't closed. The wars aren't ending.
- inactive, on 11/05/2009, -3/+38America is not without fault or evil. To believe otherwise is foolish.
- monkeyrun, on 11/05/2009, -2/+33Yeah getting raped with broken bottle is just a kind of fetish...... just like waterboarding...
- Cantholditdown, on 11/05/2009, -6/+37This sounds pretty ***** up. I would kind of like to know if this guy is credible though. How come he can't find an actual individual like one of the children that was tortured and interview them, show me their scald marks? You can pretty much say anything about the CIA because it is so secretive, and government haters will not question it.
I am all for questioning CIA tactics, and a fundamental change in how the CIA operates, but I would like some credible evidence, not just hear-say. - Hetman, on 11/05/2009, -6/+34Any nation or person who tortures are monsters. Unfortunatly I highly doubt we are ever going to find any physical evidence. We may get circumstaintial but I doubt we ever get actually proof. Which just makes the whole situation disgusting and sad.
- nepidae, on 11/05/2009, -7/+33You know that you wouldn't sound like such a nut if you used people's proper names?
/tinfoilhat - morcheeba, on 11/05/2009, -4/+29NOT IN MY NAME!
- DrHoliday, on 11/05/2009, -3/+27what was that? Obamalama what?
I agree with your points, but saying things like that makes it hard for anyone to take you seriously. - ALoudmouth, on 11/05/2009, -0/+21The same thing they do every night, Pinky...
- IphtashuFitz, on 11/05/2009, -5/+25It's a well known fact that torture is NOT an effective interrogation technique. If this is true then it's reprehensible and makes me feel bad about the lows my countries leaders have stooped to by allowing it to happen.
- Stormwern, on 11/05/2009, -4/+24As Borat would say, ***** Uzbekistan!
- jrm125, on 11/05/2009, -6/+25Sadly, I'm not surprised.
How far we're fallen... - lurrch1, on 11/05/2009, -5/+23If I was getting raped by a broken bottle I would lie about anything to make it stop. Which is why torture doesn't work, it Never has. Unless you actually believe the Knight's Templar were communicating with the devil (which they supposedly admitted to under torture).
- NotSarcasm, on 11/05/2009, -2/+18Yeah, we employ other people to do that for us.
- khfn, on 11/05/2009, -3/+18What? This isn't an anti-American story. "America" is the people, not these insane freaks running the dark show. This is an anti-evil story.
But damn, do you need to see the torture rooms for yourself to believe?
...maybe one day you'll get that chance, 'if you know what I mean'. - inactive, on 11/05/2009, -1/+15So what does the CIA and MI5 actually do apart from staging terror attacks, torturing people and over throwing democratically elected leaders?
- Zerohcool, on 11/05/2009, -2/+15Stop voting for political parties that have been bought and paid for by corporate interests.
- Takfam, on 11/05/2009, -1/+13And every reply so far has missed the point. Shep said that in regards to how it SHOULD be, not what is actually happening.
- Takfam, on 11/05/2009, -9/+21I can't take anyone seriously when they end with "WAKE UP!". Pretty much validates you as a conspiracy theorist.
- Kazazic, on 11/05/2009, -2/+13Bang on Target. Afghanistan is the cheapest route to caspian sea oil n gas (worlds largest gas reserves) & Taliban the only obstacle.
- nyxerebos, on 11/05/2009, -0/+11What I don't get is: when something like this comes to light, why does the American public not demand that the organization responsible be disbanded and its leadership tried in a court of law with charges that will amount to a life sentence?
- CrazedLeper, on 11/05/2009, -6/+17America! Yeah! Land of lies...and torture. Somehow, I don't see God blessing that.
- Wargala, on 11/05/2009, -5/+15You either forgot your sarcasm tag, or you're an idiot.
- inactive, on 11/05/2009, -2/+12They would have a good case I would say. Though, America is not the problem its the treasonous government who has raped her.
- GrandZooby, on 11/05/2009, -1/+11In a way I feel the same way. But then as you dig through American history, you'll come to the even sadder realization that "we" had never really risen that high after all.
As a simple example: Mark Twain, a member of the Anti-Imperialist League, was against American Imperialism even back then. He wrote a sad essay, "Comments on the Moro Massacre" about a stunning "military victory" in the Philippines:
http://www.is.wayne.edu/mnissani/cr/moro.htm
There are some very sad parallels with the chest-beating you see today - even here on digg.
It's a sad day when you come to the full realization that many of the wonderful things you were taught about your country were lies, half-truths, and distortions. As a veteran, you begin to not feel so proud of your service. - dstz, on 11/05/2009, -2/+11Just outsourcing it.
- KyotoWolf, on 11/05/2009, -3/+12What the *****, that's sickening.
- adderley, on 11/05/2009, -3/+12It's true, they should be ***** HELD ACCOUNTABLE. These stories (and there are OODLES of them) are rarely shown in the media and they are sickening, seems like only people in europe hear about these practices.
This undermines everything america stands for, ***** the CIA. More congressional oversight ffs.
Like Slavoj Zizek says " I don't want to live in a country where torture is debated" and he's ***** right on the money there. It's barbaric, and Cheney trying to justify it is INSANE.
And to all the ***** shooting the messenger once again, the literature on the CIA history corroborates and shows a CLEAR undeniable history of torture, murder in the first and fraud.
This book should be mandatory reading for journalists http://www.amazon.com/Legacy-Ashes-History-Tim-Wei ...
@johnnysoftware, i advise you to read this book along with Noam Chomsky's works on the subject. It's as close to credible, independent, neutral reporting as you will get. There are THOUSANDS of corroborated CIA crimes documented.
Anyone remember Nicaragua? - elliotys, on 11/05/2009, -1/+10thank you for getting it.
- Zerohcool, on 11/05/2009, -3/+11You really don't see a difference in shooting someone in a firefight and raping someone you have already subdued with a broken bottle?
- inactive, on 11/05/2009, -8/+16Unsurprising. There will be no prosecutions, no names mentioned. The usual cover up tactics. America has lost all moral authority.
So the next time you people want to lecture the world on "freedom and democracy" kindly go blow it out your ass. - NoTiG, on 11/05/2009, -2/+10It's not just the CIA. the idea of any entity.. any government organization that is secret from the people is a bad idea.
They can play the fear card as much as they want... but the truth is that we don't need secret organizations to make us safer. - BeUnimpressed, on 11/05/2009, -2/+10Good luck with that one. The US Government has been bought and paid for for almost a century now.
- rmxz, on 11/05/2009, -3/+10It may not be an effective interrogation technique - but I imagine it works very well at provoking violence and aggression.
Makes me wonder if the actual point of Gitmo and Abu Ghraib and reports like this one are more to create excuses to park the US military on the oil for a long time. - inactive, on 11/06/2009, -0/+7italians just found cia guildy of kidnap and other mischief.
us government is corrupt beyond repair - Darrelc, on 11/05/2009, -3/+10Took the words right out of my mouth. RANDOM CAPS TOO
- Zerohcool, on 11/05/2009, -1/+8In their defense he is from fox news so it would normally be a fair assumption. Personally I can't believe they haven't fired him yet, I am left to assume he has photos of Rupert Murdock doing something unsavory.
- Perleeeze, on 11/05/2009, -4/+10Some random dude?
Chris Murray is well-respected and known for his integrity. He is the Rector of Dundee University and the ex-Ambassador to Uzbekistan. We don't just let idiots waltz into these particular positions of power in the UK.
The fact that he spoke out (and was sacked) is enough to understand his morals.
Now, the only random dudes I see on Digg are the brainwashed idiots who would rather believe the Bush Administration's tall tales about how Afghanistan and Iraq were responsible for 9/11. - nepidae, on 11/05/2009, -1/+7The UK was as much to blame for this, not that it makes it any better.
- 11oops, on 11/05/2009, -1/+7If the enemy is trying to kill me, then yes, killing them is fine. If the enemy is unarmed, in prison, and tied to a chair then raping, or torturing them in any other way, is not fine. And don't even try to go with the 24 scenario where there's a ticking bomb -- there never is.
- kemp34, on 11/05/2009, -0/+6Look at the distraction BS they play on the corporatist news channels.
- Hetman, on 11/05/2009, -2/+8Personally I am against killing. I however am not going to win that argument in America. Yes torture is unacceptable for many reasons. One they are in custody and no longer pose a threat to anyone. Secondly torture has been proven to be unreliable. Finally we have laws in this country, One of those laws are that we do not torture people. We are a nation of laws not men.
- 0tis, on 11/05/2009, -1/+7Yeah, I've not buried you because it's a fair point. But no need to be a dick about it.
- manlyandy, on 11/05/2009, -5/+11: (
- NJank, on 11/05/2009, -3/+8I'm sorry, what's that? I was watching The Biggest Loser. Oh, wait, that's just my mirror.
- Takfam, on 11/05/2009, -3/+8PROTIP: Whenever you start off with "I'm not a {fill in the blank}" everyone with half a functioning brain automatically takes a beat and says "Yes, you are." before continuing to read whatever you've written. Accept your view or discard it, but don't try to disown it before you've even presented it.
