- DaDrake, on 07/04/2009, -1/+107Using US statistics (which I am sure mirror the UK), the chance of a child being abducted and molested by a stranger are astronomically rare. The child is almost twice as likely to be killed by a handgun... which is 105X less likely then drowning to death or 76X less likely then strangling themselfs to death. In other words, it is rare.
But want to know something soon to be not-so-rare. A nation of children afraid of adults; afraid because they were taught that all adults are potential predators waiting to abduct, molest, and kill them at any moment. A nation of children who weren't able to live their childhood as intended because fear was propagandized into them at home, at school, and in the media.
But *****... we can just give them a few years of therapy and some drugs... and everything will just be right and dandy?
***** idiots. - digg1520, on 07/03/2009, -0/+64A typical result of morons failing at risk assessment.
- ahpro, on 07/04/2009, -0/+46When i was a kid they left the school gates open all day. Anybody could've come in. Nobody ever did.

- DreadPirate, on 07/04/2009, -6/+37Yet another example of utter insanity from the "nanny state" nation.
- Crass22, on 07/04/2009, -1/+30I recommend everyone watch Chris Morris's Brass Eye special Paedogeddon, it should be on youtube.
- DangerCollie, on 07/04/2009, -0/+27Yeah, you gotta watch those parents, because so many of them are kidnappers. You see them driving around with kids in their cars all the time. How did we miss something so obvious?
This beer is for you, Mr. Mindlessly Paranoid School Official. - chriscalifornia, on 07/03/2009, -2/+27Whoever took the picture in the thumbnail is a pervert...
- Po0py, on 07/04/2009, -5/+28I swear the Daily Mail is leading the way in convincing the nation of GB that there is danger lurking around every corner. I'm certain there are a pocket of Daily Mail readers who genuinly take these stories to heart and stay the ***** at home behind their reinforced doors. I feel sorry for them. But why do people digg this *****? It is truly amazes me that Daily Mail stories can regularly get to the Digg front page. Given that most diggers are a bunch of liberals this just baffles me. Quit digging this *****. You are only supporting this newspaper. You digg Fox stories because they need to be ridiculed but the same attituted is not present here.
- Ymeg, on 07/03/2009, -0/+23So there are now less witnesses...
- Tokenmac, on 07/04/2009, -0/+20Kids can rape other kids too. So lets just go ahead and lock everyone under 18 years old in a bubble, and make sure it tinted so no one can even look at them.
- Kylde, on 07/04/2009, -0/+19I'm a UK parent of an 8-year old, and we aren't even allowed to take photos of our OWN children at school plays etc in case we are slyly taking photos of other children!
- TomLaw1998, on 07/04/2009, -0/+15The problem here is that rather stupid people are being allowed to create unreasonable rules for the rest of society under the umbrella of 'risk assessment/health and safety'. As their focus is totally on child protection without considering anything else it arrives at a conclusion which is biased, unreasonable and just plain wrong. The person who came up with this is clearly not competent and should be removed from future decision making.

- ABadPerson, on 07/04/2009, -1/+13Here is a better idea, keep all adults from kids! No teachers, no parents, no one but kids.
- localzuk, on 07/04/2009, -1/+13They are also the paper most likely to publish stories about how dangerous it is for kids to be out playing...
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -4/+15The UK is a your new mommy. Since they went that far, why not just trash the couch, wait around to be fed and suck on England's nipples.
- link3333, on 07/04/2009, -0/+10I really thought I'd see theonion.com under the title.

- gingerboy, on 07/04/2009, -0/+9I'm sure they are simply removing parents rights bit by bit, making kids and thus future generations of adults more reliant on the state or official authority figures......
FTA:
"All unsupervised adults must be kept away from children." WTF??? - kingpinmicky, on 07/04/2009, -1/+10Anybody else concerned that this would be perfect for a teacher or other staff member who is intent on molesting a kid at school?
- techdever, on 07/04/2009, -2/+10In b4 pedobear overload... oh wait
- merien, on 07/04/2009, -0/+8I think the risk of handguns is smaller in the UK than it is in the US. However - good point. If they were really worried for the safety of the children they should really cancel the event. The chance one of the kids will be in a traffic accident traveling to or from the event is far greater than the chance of abduction. Traffic still is the largest killer of kids - at least in this part of the world.
- ShyGuy91284, on 07/04/2009, -0/+7I suspect UK is a cover your ass society like the US too. I'm glad I just missed the paranoid parenting phase. All food brought to school things must be store bought and uninteresting. Kids must live in a foam-wrapped world. I'm surprised kids are even allowed to trick or treat... I guess you'd have to be a parent to understand though.
- mKdiR, on 07/04/2009, -0/+7Soo let me get this straight, in order to ward away kiddie fiddlers they are going to remove most of the adults from the scene, and have the sports day with a ton of kids and only a few adults. Great!
- dodgyd55, on 07/04/2009, -0/+7why has this reached the state of hysteria? next children wont get to move 10 feet from their parents because of an irrational fear that paedophiles are just waiting to snatch them
- localzuk, on 07/04/2009, -1/+8poidh - have you ever actually read the daily mail?!
- kenhatesemos, on 07/04/2009, -2/+9how hard is it to spot pedobear in a crowd.
- AmyVernon, on 07/04/2009, -0/+6Here's the Sex Pistols.
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -0/+6>>'We did a risk assessment and concluded that we couldn't guarantee the children's safety.
'
>>The number of children involved meant it would have been hard to ensure people were who they claimed to be.'
>>Local councillor Anita Lewis also backed the decision, saying: 'The safety of the children is paramount.
Seems that the UK has some of the same fanatical "It's for the children" kool-aid drinking idiots that we do. - NoisySiamese, on 07/04/2009, -7/+13Quote: "All unsupervised adults must be kept away from children."
Kids are deliberately being educated to demonise adults. Wake up, people because this is EXACTLY what the communist Pol Pot did.
Pol Pot separated children from parents and indoctrinated them with fanatical denial of natural affection and respect for familial relationships:
Why Communism Loves Children:

Today in the UK we have "Common Purpose" with its "Youth Leaders", and the insidious poison that is Cultural Marxism. Remember that Karl Marx and his mates such as Engels were supporters of the "Pederasts", otherwise known as paedophiles. We now have the Marxists in power: Gordon Brown, Harriet Harman and Margaret Hodge (think paedophile sex scandal in children's homes under her watch...). - localzuk, on 07/04/2009, -1/+7You must have a stupid head, I work in a school and there is never even a question of whether parents can come to sports events, or whether parents can take pictures - they just can.
- LQHelium, on 07/04/2009, -0/+6listen to this man.
- motters, on 07/04/2009, -0/+5That's really sad. Basically it's saying that parents aren't allowed to enjoy or look back on their children growing up. If I were you I'd complain to the head teacher in the strongest possible terms.
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -0/+5Why not just make it illegal for over 18s to look at or communicate with under 18s under any and all circumstances? Why not just lock up everyone, surely it's a small price to pay to get the pedos?. Think of the children!
We're turning into a society of hysterical cowards, fleeing from imagined threats everywhere. Our great grandparents would be ashamed of our lack of fortitude and strength of character. - thetrev, on 07/04/2009, -2/+7Oh FFS. When will people stop digging Daily Mail stories? They are either untrue, have very little proof or falls under the banner of "POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD!"
seriously, stop it. - Piha, on 07/04/2009, -0/+5Dugg for your wakeup call on risk assesment... But... "kids are 76 x more likely to strangle themselves to death than drown?"
I assume you meant some kinda hanging, as opposed to strangling oneself with barehands. I have heard of that happen to a couple of classmates (accidental) when I was at school, one was a guy who was trying to rig up a swing for his bros birthday. And a few hanging suicides.
Sad stuff, but it does sound about right statistically. - soopertoll, on 07/04/2009, -0/+5Kids could hurt themselves! So we need to tie them up too!
no wait... DON'T MAKE ANY KIDS!
or... KILL YOURSELF!
MAYHEM! - yuanzhoulu, on 07/04/2009, -0/+5They should ban the children to keep out adultophiles.
- motters, on 07/04/2009, -0/+4Stupid and irrational. This shows just how poor some people are at estimating risks.
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -0/+4Quite so. While everyone fixates on 'stranger danger' the elephant in the room is that statistically, in the region of 19 out of 20 cases of child abuse the perpetrator was already known and trusted by the victim ie a parent, relative or close friend. But as a society we like concentrate on the 5% of cases that are not close to home because they are much less disturbing to contemplate.
In either case swaddling children in cotton wool will hardly prepare them for life as a responsible adult. - kingpinmicky, on 07/04/2009, -0/+4Yes, rereading my comment does suggest that. I'm didn't think out that comment enough. In reality, while I'm not actually that concerned about it happening at all, I think it's ludicrous to think that these kids are facing a greater danger from "some random stranger" wandering up and taking a child than what they might be facing from people who already have some sort of relationship with those children. Just like with other forms of rape it happens more often than not that the perpetrator is known to the victim.
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -0/+4With some of the over-the-top zero tolerance policies in the US, we've no room to talk.
- drummerguy520, on 07/04/2009, -0/+3Kaegro
Wrong band my friend. - Herostratos, on 07/04/2009, -0/+3It reminds me of the south park episode "Child abduction is not funny". At the end of the episode the parents of the town sends the children out to live in the forests outside of town because they had seen on the TV that the childrens parents where the most likely ones to abduct them...
In this case it was strangely prophetic. - icepick314, on 07/04/2009, -1/+4also statistically, isn't family members are more likely to be child abusers of their own children?
why not ban parents from their own children right after their birth? - Kaegro, on 07/04/2009, -1/+4I hate pedo-bear but I love the ASCII pedo bear. Long live ASCII pedo-bear!
