- loper, on 06/20/2009, -0/+84Something about the police only recognizing one of the twins strikes me as funny.
- fruitify, on 06/20/2009, -0/+40here's the link to the pictures: http://tinyurl.com/lzkn53
the strange thing is, although this guy claims to be robbed etc, he's peacefully cycling next to his 'robber twins' for quite some... pictures. weird police research...
and by the way... cycling on the sidewalk is illegal; wonder if steps will be taken; clear evidence, me seems ;) - FirstOne1, on 06/19/2009, -7/+36CAN GOOGLE DO NO WRONG?!?!?! Damn i need a beer.,.
- CityandColourrr, on 06/20/2009, -3/+30*****, I better stop assaulting random women and raping them or else Google Maps will eventually catch me and I'm going to be *****.
Good thing the server isn't ever updated with new images.
My shed is still here in the image of my house, and that ***** blew down with the hurricane. - lorductape, on 06/20/2009, -0/+21Why would you write this story without a picture.
- wendelgee2, on 06/20/2009, -0/+19link to google maps image anyone?
- Newsdude, on 06/19/2009, -0/+16Ask the Chinese that question
- KevinMalone, on 06/20/2009, -0/+16In related news, Woman has the largest natural breasts ever. But no pics, sorry
- KSUdesigner, on 06/20/2009, -0/+15Already is:
http://www.thechurchofgoogle.org/ - jordanlgta, on 06/20/2009, -0/+15What kind of an idiot writes an article like this but DOES NOT GIVE US THE LINK TO THE GOOGLE MAPS STREET VIEW? I mean it's just like the people that write about new species of animals being discovered but THERE IS NO PICTURE. Why are these people in journalism???
- KSUdesigner, on 06/20/2009, -0/+13No, not at all. Have you not seen all the "Caught on Tape" shows on TV? Plus, it's fairly common to catch someone on CCTV so we don't really hear about it much.
- ginestony, on 06/20/2009, -0/+12Dammit, I wanna see the image now
- yuanzhoulu, on 06/20/2009, -3/+14agree with drnimrod.
it should be legal for me to photograph anything while standing in public places. likewise, it should be legal for Google to do so. this is Google, not the government. if you want privacy (even for legally acceptable things, such as uh, having sex), don't do it within view of the street. - Spinducky08, on 06/20/2009, -0/+10"A 14-year-old boy told police last September he had been robbed of euro165 ($230) "
Damn, when I was 14, I was lucky if I had $2.30 on me! Let's see, large sum of money, cell phone and bicycle. Hmmm. If I was the officer that took the complaint, I'd be a bit suspicious. - radialturkey, on 06/20/2009, -0/+8Reported for spam.
- inactive, on 06/20/2009, -1/+9not really.
- dazparkour, on 06/20/2009, -0/+6Surely if they google the answer, all they will be allowed to find is "Google does no Evil".
- collution, on 06/20/2009, -0/+4It obviously isn't the usual first place. It's just coincidental or maybe it's karma.
- DamonToo, on 06/20/2009, -0/+3I've been thinking for ages that google should somehow make street view time/date stamps accessible. Then you could write an app that, for example, runs through a list of unsolved crimes and compares the time/location of the crimes to those captured by street view.
- flossdaily, on 06/20/2009, -0/+3What kind of bastard would steal twins?!
- MasterAmerica, on 06/20/2009, -2/+5Because the first place I turn to is Google maps to solve all of my crime fighting needs :/
- pault107, on 06/20/2009, -0/+3"cycling on the sidewalk is illegal" - in Holland? I'm not sure if that is true or not, but I lived in Holland for seven years, and if you're on a bike you are above any law. Cyclists rule the streets in Holland.
- keithwired, on 06/20/2009, -0/+3they could be fraternal instead of identical, but I get the humor so yes it is funny.
- brownsound00, on 06/20/2009, -1/+4This is the first step... soon google will become self aware and it will govern us all with an iron fist.
/tin hat. - GuyFlash, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2"The company complied, and a robbery squad detective immediately recognized ONE of the twins."
I'm guessing these aren't identical twins or he would have recognized BOTH of the twins. lol - Craig304958, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2Well, I for one welcome our new Google overords. Hey, somebody had to say it.
- DirtyVicar, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2They're only covering Groningen night and day on weekends. On weekdays it's just daytime only.
- jakobrowning, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2Personally I find it a matter of principle more than anything else. I tend to feel a bit on edge when I realize that at any given time my actions can be viewed, cataloged, and stored away by a complete stranger. Call me a paranoid nut job if you want, I don't really care. The fact is that power does corrupt and I don't want someone with power over me having so much of my life in their hands. I'm not a criminal so I don't want my actions to be scrutinized as if I were an inmate in a gigantic ***** prison. Ergo, I feel I have a right to my privacy. Having unfettered access to everything I do in a given day is going to far. Sure they may not ***** with us law abiding citizens right now, but we should err on the side of being proactive. How long before seemingly small time offense become vastly more criminalized because you need to do is enforce them with this handy dandy monitoring system. Look up the City of Melbourne, people there can hardly take a ***** without someone coming on a PA to tell them their doing it wrong.
- Dumbledorito, on 06/20/2009, -3/+4FTA: "Heidanus said prosecutors sent a formal request to Google for the original photo because people's faces are blurred on Street View."
- Craig304958, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1Yeah. If they were identical, unless they were idiots one of them would be setting up an airtight alibi while the other one was doing the planned mischief. And they'd be doing it someplace where neither of them is known.
- Drazzim12, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1Aren't these street view pictures higher resolution than normal? Often it seems the only reason you can't read license plates or make out faces is because of the low resolution. However, these things clearly have to be "censored" in these photos.
- EllisSpice, on 06/20/2009, -2/+3As Google would say, 'Don't Be Evil'
- Sutley, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1I'm glad the thieves were caught, but something about using mass photography and satellite imagery to catch criminals makes me uneasy in regard to privacy. : /
- SexyGeekGirl, on 06/20/2009, -1/+2yay! Super Google. Making the world a better place
- embryoinbloom, on 06/20/2009, -1/+2dugg for beer
- forcedfx, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1They started building my development about 2 years ago, and it just shows the trees cleared.

- gnoshme, on 06/20/2009, -1/+2"The company complied, and a robbery squad detective immediately recognized one of the twins."
I guess the other twin looked completely different. - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 06/21/2009, -0/+1Providing a link is beyond the technical capacity of msnbc apparently.
- glutamate, on 06/21/2009, -0/+1JernejL, the reason you're getting dugg down is that people want to believe that diggers aren't retarded enough to give 75 updiggs for something so ignorant.
- Plonkely, on 06/21/2009, -0/+1Drnimrod, he wasn't complaining about how his privacy is being invaded; he was pointing out that in Europe there is concern from some that it's an invasion, and stories like this may cause more criticism. Please read the words before you launch rude verbal attacks.
- TheSkunkMonkey, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1"On weekdays it's just daytime only."
I would hope filming weekdays is done only during the daytime. I mean, it would get confusing if they were filming weeknights only during the daytime or weekdays only at nighttime. - inactive, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1Dude, they've mapped hundreds of entire cities with images on the street level - cut them some slack.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 06/21/2009, -0/+1The link doesn't show anything at all for me.
And, the twins were probably peacefully shadowing him before they robbed him. - sekander94, on 06/21/2009, -0/+1Enhance ... Enhance ... Enhance
- CityandColourrr, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1awesomeR0B0T,
You do realize what a joke is, right? - SeanRockCity, on 06/21/2009, -0/+1suck it
- Hurricane, on 06/21/2009, -0/+1I know this thread is a joke, but on a serious technology issue, Google Street View pics have a turnover rate of about 2-3 years.
- Hurricane, on 06/21/2009, -0/+1You could also stalk people and do other unsavory things with such data.
- JernejL, on 06/20/2009, -2/+3not all twins look the same.
