Forgive my ignorance, but does stuff like this happen a lot? One country invading another on the ground? My concern here is this: One of the Kurds allies gets ***** off about this. They jump in the fight. Well, this ***** off one of Turkeys allies, and they jump in. This ***** off one of.... etc.
See where I'm going with this? Ground invasions like this tend to get big IIRC. Didn't WWII start with one country invading another in a politically charged part of the world for "Ethnic Cleansing"? Germany invaded Poland... then BOOM.
Not saying this is the start of WWIII, just noting that other than the US invasion of Iraq, I've not heard of an invasion in a while....

This is what happens to the one group that hasn't been firing on American soldiers. We've traded alliances with Sunni and Shi'ite and now this. Does Mr. Bush want to betray everyone who doesn't hate America? Don't answer that, it was a rhetorical question.

Maybe once they're done they'll be okay with Iraq dividing into three countries like they wanted.

Remember, they sold us a whole illegal war of aggression by using the Kurdish cause and inhumane behavior toward them as a reason to attack Iraq so Sadam could no longer keep the price of oil reasonable around the world? So now we've thrown the Kurds into a meat grinder. Get the joke? Without a word of protest we just throw our poor little gassed friends we love so much into the fire. You think a single, "don't attack this country we occupy Turkey, or you are declaring war on the US," wouldn't have stopped them in their tracks? Hell of a way to treat our old buddies and allies the kurds..

I prepared my senior seminar paper on the Kurds. This is not gonna end well. It all really goes back to the treaty of Sevres, and How the British and French really screwed the region back in the early 1900's. That is why you had Atatürk leading a nationalist movement in Turkey. They were afraid of losing their country piece by piece. They made the Kurdish language Illegal, and began to relocate them as well.

It also doesn't hurt that the Kurds historically sit on real good mineral wealth like copper in Turkey and oil in Iraq.

40,000 people have already been killed in the skirmishes between Turkey and the PKK, but this is the largest incursion since Saddam let an army of 70,000 Turks come in and shoot up Iraqi Kurds in 1992.

This is serious, bad news. If Turkey, while taking out the PKK, happens to take out some Kurdish Iraq militia, a whole new front may open up in the Iraq war. Turkey claims that it will be a limited, in and out incursion. However, as we have seen in the recent past ("Mission Accomplished"), the best laid plans are usually not what gets implemented with land operations.
