- inactive, on 05/05/2009, -4/+43I initially read the headline to mean "45 year-old turkey killed at engagement ceremony"
- potamkin, on 05/05/2009, -0/+32What's a ceremont?
- badenglishihave, on 05/05/2009, -0/+31Really sad when something like this happens at a happy event.
- Plotinus, on 05/05/2009, -11/+32Nothing to do with it being Islamic, it's to do with it being tribal and retarded. The two aren't linked.
- dlan4327, on 05/05/2009, -1/+20If you can bring yourself to kill people at a wedding you are not a human being.
You're a very sad creature who desperately needs help. - inactive, on 05/05/2009, -1/+19***** disgusting.
- inactive, on 05/05/2009, -0/+17***** cowards. It doesn't matter what religion, political background, nation you come from nothing excuses killing innocent civilians like this.
- plecostomus, on 05/05/2009, -0/+16I assumed 45 turkeys were killed.
- morningmatters, on 05/05/2009, -1/+17For those who are speculating on the motives for the attack, FTA :
"Citing unidentified authorities, CNN-Turk television said the attack may have occurred because one of the gunmen wanted to marry the engaged woman himself and opposed the marriage. It said there was a family tie between the assailants and the couple who were killed.
NTV television, citing deputy Gov. Ferhat Ozen, earlier said the motive for the attack could be a feud between rival groups of pro-government village guards, who fight alongside Turkish troops against Kurdish rebels. " - inactive, on 05/05/2009, -3/+15This hasnt anything to do with religion, it all about ethnic background and political affiliation.
- skyjis6, on 05/05/2009, -0/+12When you post a story like this i think you should take the extra time and spell check it. My heart goes out to the families.
- MacParrot, on 05/05/2009, -1/+13Depending on the motive, Plotinus very well may be correct. Part of the problem with the region in general is that for many of them tribe comes before country. Most of the tribes do follow the same religion (or sect of the same). The religion part is mostly coincidental. See Dafur, Northern Ireland, large parts of Africa, Iraq, Central Europe. Even if they are of the same religion AND sect but of different tribes, blood feuds can carry over for hundreds of years.
- 350Zed, on 05/05/2009, -1/+13Help in the form of a firing squad.
- burkay, on 05/05/2009, -3/+15I am Turkish and let me give you the full account of the situation.
The event has nothing to do with religion. Absolutely nothing. The murderers and the dead are from the same family. The region still has a feudal structure and feudal rules. There was a decades old quarrel between the people involved in the massacre. Now the survivors will hunt down the killers according to the feudal tradition.
It is a very very unfortunate thing that these ugly traditions still live in the region. It is the same region where Kurdish terrorists come from. These are people who couldn't adapt into the 20th century. They are still living a life style of middle ages. - DankBuddz, on 05/05/2009, -1/+12Gee, thats weird, it doesn't say anything about religion in your comment, even though all the intellectuals above are telling us it is.
- MacParrot, on 05/05/2009, -3/+14The bride was amongst those killed and you're an ass for trying to poke fun at a tragedy like this.
- directedition, on 05/05/2009, -0/+10"Police allowed friends and relatives to enter Bilge, but journalists were kept out. Authorities also cut telephone communication with the village."
Wow, they REALLY don't want anyone talking to them. Why the hell cut the phone lines? - inactive, on 05/05/2009, -1/+10Sounds like a B movie plot.
- 8Kirby078, on 05/05/2009, -0/+8Sounds like the beginning of a revenge story.
- renanrrinaldi, on 05/05/2009, -0/+7I read:
Turkeys: 45 killed at engagement ceremony - Dreamstate, on 05/05/2009, -0/+7This has to be the worst weddingday in history.
- SilverBack101, on 05/05/2009, -0/+7Hey bro. Be respectful. You are talking about Internet Professors with PhDs in various fields of knowledge such as:
Trolling
Life Experiences Through Webcomics
Social Awkwardness
Over 100 Digg Friends
Photoshop Detective (it's in the Pixels)
Pedo-Bear Copy And Pasting
...and much more. - MacParrot, on 05/05/2009, -2/+9Protestants and Catholics in Northern Ireland. Hindus of different castes in India. History is filled with examples of the same religion, but different sects killing one another over interpretations of God. This case wasn't even about Islam (most likely as from what the article says) but about feuds between either different families or who within the SAME family was going to wed.
- MacParrot, on 05/05/2009, -1/+8No proof at all...except that they have apprehended some suspects that come from the same family and also have some of the weapons used for the crime and presumable statements from some of the people involved. Other than that, no proof at all.
- themusicalduck, on 05/05/2009, -0/+6Very sad news.
Bad headline though, I first read it as '45 turkeys killed in engagement ceremony' - inactive, on 05/05/2009, -7/+13Anyone who bases their life on a book is an idiot imo...
- seltaeb4, on 05/05/2009, -0/+6"Ceremont" is a perfectly cromulent word.
- MacParrot, on 05/05/2009, -3/+8Actually fatas, someone else being armed and stopping an armed criminal happens in the US more than you think. There was a story just recently about some lowlife trying to rob a BK and being stopped by a lawfully armed civillian.
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/breaking-news/stor ... - inactive, on 05/05/2009, -5/+10rofl in all the shooting incidents in the US this has never happened
false sense of security - 350Zed, on 05/05/2009, -2/+7You are probably an idiot.
There... it all evens out now. - DrVic, on 05/05/2009, -1/+5Are you serious? you don't know what a ceremont is? :-P
- tattertech, on 05/05/2009, -6/+10And religion. All three are factors in how these individuals act.
- inactive, on 05/05/2009, -11/+15Don't get the religion mixed up with the idiotic ideologies of individuals who are just... well ***** idiots. And besides I'd bet 1000 bucks that you haven't even read the Koran so you are just making yourself look like a fool as well.
LAWYERD! - Ebacherville, on 05/05/2009, -1/+5Yep armed citizens do stop incidents like this .. violence is bad, but violence and no way to defend your self is much worse.
If you disagree, then why do cops have guns? - stevo9er, on 05/05/2009, -4/+8Just look at America and our "Christian values" killing 87k iraqis.
- schroeder, on 05/05/2009, -0/+4I assumed it was Thanksgiving.
- BaphClass, on 05/05/2009, -0/+4Same here, I lol'd
- SilverBack101, on 05/05/2009, -1/+5It's a celebratory mountain.
- obone333, on 05/05/2009, -1/+5Does it really have to be a happy event for this to be sad? It's sad no matter what type of event!
- cubicrystal, on 05/05/2009, -0/+4Very suspicious.
- beautifulady, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3Some people read into things too much, I think. There is nothing to indicate any political plot. Familial strife happens in a lot of families, and in Turkey the tribal culture is still very much alive, especially in the rural east.
- tomasmarc, on 05/05/2009, -2/+5Really? Haven't heard of things like that happening in any other EU country. Sorry, but Turkey still has to prove it is really a secular, modern and civilized country. Just like most EU states are.
Well, excluding Poland, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria... :) To say the truth, we all have our own issues. - JaseFace, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3Turkey might not ever get into the EU, but its democratic institutions are now stronger than those in Bulgaria, which is an EU member.
- DankBuddz, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3Try maybe reading the article and looking at the motive.
- MacParrot, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3If you knew anyone killed like this would it still be funny? That's the criteria you should apply
- MacParrot, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3Relax cubie...I'm going by the article just as you are from your link. All the facts aren't in yet.
- badenglishihave, on 05/05/2009, -4/+7That is because in most of the major shooting incidents in the US (school, workplace) guns are not allowed. There are numerous smaller crimes committed in public that are thwarted by responsible citizens with guns. Google it if you don't believe me.
btw I like how you changed your comment once you saw you were getting buried. - Hurricane, on 05/05/2009, -1/+3c e r e m o n y
- seltaeb4, on 05/05/2009, -1/+3Sarah Palin hadn't pardoned any of the turkeys yet.
- algorythm, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2Common... Give us some hope.
