"warning is later withdrawn"
They dodged a big bullet with this one. Thank God.
and on that note, I'm burying this article because it is no longer accurate. - jburka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Thankfully the tsunami warning has been withdrawn ... see CNN
- jon1012, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8From the article: "An official at Japan's Meteorological Agency said there was no longer any danger of a destructive tsunami headed for the Philippines, as had been predicted."
and "The expected waves did not materialize," said Hiroshi Koide of the agency's earthquake section. "The danger has passed."
Please read the article before putting such alarming news title... There won't be another tsunami right now :-) - pumpedvideo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I hope everyone will be alright in Philippines
- johnjohnstonson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6i live here in taiwan (tainan, a southern city) and there was one medium-ish quake at about 8.30, then another big one a few minutes later. i was teaching at the time and it was a worrying moment, considering the ironic date. i heard a couple of people died and some more were injured, but its difficult to say because much of the island is cut off. i've been here over 2 years and that was the biggest one yet.
we get a ***** of typhoons too, but at least with them they give you the grace of a day or two's notice. - edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think he was referring to the '***** happens on boxing day' effect. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/December_26
- pumpedvideo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Both yahoo and AP changed their story. That was the title of the story 2 hours ago...
I am happy that there is no Tsunami, and sorry about the title. Please bury this story - SteelChicken, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7RTFA IDIOTS
"The danger has passed," said Hiroshi Koide of the agency's earthquake section. "We predicted tsunami based on the depth and magnitude of the earthquake. But ultimately, it appears no large tsunami were triggered."
sorry repost... - esofthub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The magnitude was measured 6.7 by Taiwan and 7.2 by US and Japan.
- johnjohnstonson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4oh man! another big aftershock at....MARK...23.42 local time. you guys are so lucky, you get to hear it here first.
- pumpedvideo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4No one is injured in Taiwan.
It happened in the Southern part of Taiwan. However, people in Taipei (Capital of Taiwan, located in the north) also feel the earthquake - furyg3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3People, don't get your weather reports from digg :)
The only digg'er in some remote village just scared his town ***** and got his laptop thrown in the ocean for this one :) - bariswheel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The Tsunami is going to be small, invoking panic is probably the wrong way to go here. Don't get your panties caught up in a bunch without hearing some facts folks.
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think the story might've been updated: "Two hours later, an official at Japan's Meteorological Agency said there was no longer any danger of a destructive tsunami headed for the Philippines, as had been predicted."
- jibone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No tsunami, but the rest of south east asia in having really slow internet connection to international sites. US sites. Digg, heck even Google is loading really slow for us...
- pumpedvideo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2false alarm is better than no alarm
- DigitalBrian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Mother Nature is a powerful bitch and we cant do anything about it.
- EnzeroX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's 12:36am here, everyone's sleeping. Thank god theres no tsunami.
- sovereign3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yahoo News often updates articles as details change. Given that, I'm sure at the time the story was submitted, it was likely that there was still a tsunami warning. Let's not seek the head of the messenger.
Fortunately, details have changed for the better and thankfully there won't be another tsunami. - TheGonzo, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1HUH?!?! R U We Todd Did!
- pumpedvideo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Good news!
- africaninformer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) denied reports that a tsunami may be headed toward the country, but advised residents in low-lying areas to move to safer ground as a precaution.
- grooviekenn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2what pattern? Earthquake and then tsunami warning? that's a pretty usual pattern.
- odannyboy, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1Meow Ming the Filipino cat on facebook says
Don't care about tsunamis as long as I get my take out from The Aristocrat in Manila.. ha ha ha - cryptocom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This needs to be buried as inaccurate.
From the article:
"A powerful earthquake struck off southwestern Taiwan on Tuesday, briefly prompting fears of a tsunami on the second anniversary of the quake and deadly waves that killed thousands in south Asia."
...there hasn't been any tsunami YET. RTFA. - Victorioso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It seems that these earthquakes do not produce similar results, thankfully. :-)
- odannyboy, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1No effect we're cool up here in the mountains.. no news of any damage in the coast.
- giveer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2whoops. bury comment. (2 comments up)

- vmlinuz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There's no tsunami, but I've seen a few people online saying they felt it very clearly here in Hong Kong.

I was in Pizza Express at the time with a lady friend and, unfortunately, did not feel the earth move... - spannage, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Poster is making stuff up and sheepish diggers vote it up. Verify! That is why mainstream media is much more credible....they check before posting/writing.
- TomP, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5I got a chill down my spine when i read this
"on the second anniversary of the deadly waves that killed thousands in south Asia." - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4No Tsunami. Marked as inaccurate.
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2See above. RTFA, no tsunami. Reported as inaccurate.
- drpeppper, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3anyone else see a pattern here?!
- rholloway, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2dugg down, inaccurate. the digg headline is decidedly different from the actual headline--not to diminish the tragedy of two years ago, but to prevent unneccesary panic two years later.
- slantyeyed, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2INACCURATE . . . read it now: "Fears of tsunami ease after Taiwan quake"
- Qwirk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Inaccurate - http://www.prh.noaa.gov/pr/ptwc/bulletins.htm
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Oh word? God must have gotten my letter. Too bad I specified INDONESIA.
- Victorioso, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Do the people in any of these place know what is coming
