- psilly, on 07/20/2009, -30/+125This is long overdue.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -22/+108Please send him to a prison in Arizona. PLEASE!!! :-)
- clvngodess, on 07/20/2009, -19/+85I can only hope that he endures the same sort of treatment he inflicted upon others. Specifically, I'd like to see this jackass in a pink ballerina outfit with tutu dance in the yard of the state pen. for all the big boys to see. Music will be dance of the sugar plum fairies, followed up by a medley of Barney songs.
- DireWolf11, on 07/20/2009, -19/+82what an *****, that guy is responsible for more wrongdoing and pain than any of the criminals he's locked up
- Semprini, on 07/21/2009, -13/+73Arpayaso is a joke. Sadly, its a sick joke. I'm a PHX native, been here all my life, I am a conservative and I am supremely embarrassed by this pile of human waste.
Sheriff Joke blackmails the press here, you oppose him, he pulls shenanigans on you. I would love to see this bastard rot in prison. - Sideshowslob, on 07/20/2009, -10/+63They took err jerbs!
- serif69, on 07/21/2009, -5/+49Pretty sure he won't go to jail as the result of a civil lawsuit. It's a nice stab at a sensationalist story, though.
- jess21496, on 07/20/2009, -15/+55I don't get why he has not been ousted already.
- novenator, on 07/21/2009, -7/+38agreed. chain gangs? racial profiling? abusive tactics? This is supposed to be America, not some police state.
- SaladCactusKing, on 07/21/2009, -13/+43I hope they strap him in that weird torture seat he uses for prisoners in HOLDING CELLS WHO HAVEN'T BEEN CONVICTED YET.
- mynameisteejay, on 07/21/2009, -16/+46Thank god, I'm so sick and tired of hearing ignorant rednecks kiss this bigot's ass...
- senorsubagua, on 07/21/2009, -4/+33I remember seeing Arpaio in an interview a few years back where he was justifying his poor treatment of people awaiting trial, who hadn't been convicted of anything. He basically took the same delight in punishing the supposed innocent as he does the convicted, smugly assuring the interviewer that they'd probably done something to deserve the treatment, even if they were innocent of the current charges. Punishing criminals is distasteful but something that has to be done if we are to have a civilized society; thus, it should not be done by someone who so enjoys the power the way this guy clearly does. "Beware of all those in whom the urge to punish is strong" --Nietzsche
- inactive, on 07/21/2009, -7/+29You funny.
Racial Profiling goes on in the South. Everywhere in the South.
He's an *****. Relative of yours? - Wakkyweed, on 07/21/2009, -3/+21He needs to eat the moldy bologna sandwiches he regularly fed to the prisoners.
- inactive, on 07/21/2009, -2/+20Shhhh. Well thought out statements rarely do well on Digg.
- joel8x, on 07/21/2009, -3/+21Wait. Own his way?
- Frankyfan3, on 07/21/2009, -6/+23And you, my friend, have not come to terms with the reality that many (if not most) Americans would probably not have any problem with the good sheriff's tactics.
It's understandable, really.
.... neither have I. - phrawgh, on 07/21/2009, -6/+23“I want to make this place so unpleasant that they won't even think about doing something that could bring them back.” - Joe Arpaio
- deweyhewson, on 07/21/2009, -8/+24"That's also why I look the other way when they die from heat exhaustion or are murdered while being processed."
~Joe Arpaio - Frankyfan3, on 07/21/2009, -4/+19You have obviously never seen a documentary which featured him & his department.
I saw something about this guy years ago, before this case... it was actually kind of a puff piece about how awesome he was for making budget cuts and "new & interesting" ways of punishing people.
But I remember thinking he was full of ***** & abusing his authority as someone who has sworn to uphold the constitution and all of it's amendments.
Although it could be another sadistic and dehumanizing anti-corrections pro-incarceration Arizona "Toughest Sheriff" that I'm thinking of, but it's hard to say, since there are so many of them. - AaronS2000, on 07/21/2009, -6/+20Put him in a pink jumpsuit.
- bryantee, on 07/21/2009, -8/+22Good. The guy is an ***** and I would like to see him get what's coming to him.
- subcomandante, on 07/21/2009, -15/+29***** Sheriff Joe!!!
- omnithought, on 07/21/2009, -12/+24Good! He's a ***** piece of *****.
Of course, he'll probably get away with it like he does everything else.
Oh the things we wish we could say.... - JohnGalt750, on 07/21/2009, -2/+14Arizona: visit on vacation, stay on probation
- zeth006, on 07/21/2009, -7/+18Sigh...what is it with rednecks feeling victimized these days? They scream that others are being racist against them even when the mountain of evidence is against them.
Yeah, digg me down. Go ahead. You'll just confirm what I've said. - bentaisan, on 07/21/2009, -3/+14The legally residing Hispanic community has large segments that support illegal immigrants. This tacit approval has created an atmosphere where illegals can blend in, making so-called "racial profiling" inevitable.
La Raza needs to take responsibility for its part in undermining the rule of law.
All illegal immigrants, regardless of their race or origin, should be deported. - whorunbartertwn, on 07/21/2009, -14/+24I'm no fan of Sheriff Joe but buried for false headline. A civil lawsuit isn't going to put the sheriff in jail and nowhere does the article state or imply that.
Ongoing problem on digg, submitter greatly exaggerating or fabricating headline for effect, respond by burying every time.
Also bury because submitter has obvious history of distorting headlines and looks like a Latin Little Richard. Little Ricardo?
- zeth006, on 07/21/2009, -9/+18So you're saying this dude filing a civil lawsuit against him (and all the other Mexicans with American citizenship who were jailed without due process) were part of the "illegal alien problem?"
***** you and your bigotry, you racist little *****. - DDRSkata, on 07/21/2009, -5/+13He "dared to go up against non whites?" That's how you view it? There's something wrong with you.
- Jrayk, on 07/21/2009, -3/+11Wasn't this guy in the "War on Drugs" episode of *****?
- DDRSkata, on 07/21/2009, -2/+9Wow. He's ***** insane.
- harrydabassist, on 07/21/2009, -12/+19Let the ***** rot in prison till the end of his days...then in hell when he's dead. He's a racist ***** who deserves no sympathy. I can't believe people actually read his book!!!
- bentaisan, on 07/21/2009, -1/+7@Nudar
Good one!
I like when they searched the 90 year-old white woman with a walker while searching for terrorists.
A little experience with data mining will show a correlation between country of origin and terrorism, but this is, of course, "racial profiling".
If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, then the presumption is, its a duck. - ganjadude4391, on 07/21/2009, -1/+7I guess some people think illegal (key word there) immigration is no big problem
personally I think joes an *****, but I got no problem with ILLEGAL (key word) immigrants being forcibly removed just as someone with illegal (key word) drugs would be treated. - cybrguy, on 07/21/2009, -1/+6Logic wording Fail:
Which civil rights groups define as “going after illegal immigrants first, and the crime second.”
What is crime? when something does something illegal.
What kind of immigrants are being targeted(according to that sentence)? Illegal ones.
They are also detaining legal citizens, article should not have worded it this way. - inactive, on 07/21/2009, -4/+9Im from the UK, id like Joe over here if you Americans dont want him, if you comit a crime you should loose your human rights, Joe is right on with that, they are less likley to ***** up when on the outside again in my opinion.
- whorunbartertwn, on 07/21/2009, -2/+7First thing I noticed too... submitter changed the headline for more sensationalism and ended up with a complete fabrication that's not going to happen with a civil lawsuit.
- awinters, on 07/21/2009, -2/+7People who are here illegally should be deported whether it is Canada, Mexico or Sweden, because that is the law and its a law for a reason. This guy is not doing this because of the law. He did it because of his hatred for certain people. His intent has always been purely personal satisfaction.
Also, dugg for the awesome pic. - Wakkyweed, on 07/21/2009, -2/+7" When you legalize something, it opens the door, everybody that would never use drugs would say, "You know, I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna start using marijuana, cocaine. I'll be driving my car high on this, high on that." It's against the law, against the law. We're gonna have doctors, now, taking a little puff of marijuana when they're opening you up. " - Joe Arpaio, on Penn and Teller's *****!.
- lamejoketeller, on 07/21/2009, -6/+11"Toughest Typist in America" May Not Be Own His Way to Spell Chack
- cmp1966, on 07/21/2009, -1/+6Sun City- that's where the parasites who fear anyone that doesn't look like them and don't pay any school taxes, yet complain about the conditions of our schools and educational systems, live -right?
But I don't think most Americans would "not have any problem with the good sheriff's tactics" -- not if they knew the truth about them, and how much harm those tactics caused. I have more faith in us than that. I think most people still believe in civil rights, the Declaration and the Constitution. - dikky, on 07/21/2009, -3/+8was it this guy that took advantage of a law stating he gets a portion of saved jail expenses?
If it was, he was pocketing mad money by starving the inmates. - Nudar, on 07/21/2009, -12/+16"The ACLU along with other civil rights groups, who have backed Jesus Oscar Melendrez, claimed that Arpaio’s attorney’s request to have Judge Murgia resign from the case was baseless." Judge Murgia's sister is a member of La Raza, a racist organization whose goal is to annex the American Southwest for Mexico.
That's about as fair as Jesse Jackson's judge having a brother in the KKK. - jshhmr, on 07/21/2009, -2/+6The law is the law. Enough said. Joe is doing the Job that other cities are too big of pussies to enforce. How many cops have been murdered in Houston by illegal immigrants so far? They are a "sanctuary city" so the illegals are not expected to be held responsible for the same laws that citizens are supposed to. Enough of this PC bullcrap.
- megawiz, on 07/21/2009, -12/+16on his way even
- iwhitness, on 07/21/2009, -1/+5he also killed a puppy... no joke, in the warrant serving/tear gas debacle his officers killed a puppy. completely out of bounds
- llopez1223, on 07/21/2009, -6/+10Do you know why there is a so called illegal alien "problem"? Because the countries from which people come from are void of economic and social opportunity. It's easy for racist pieces of ***** like yourself, to tell illegals to "geeeet out(South Park)," yet the federal and state governments have done nothing to actually come to a solution other than building a wall or some other wasteful program. What is ironic is that the Democratic party which has constantly promised to work on immigrant reform only makes a mild attempt to change the status quo when election season rolls around.
By the way good ol' Joe is being indicted for doing something criminal which is racial profiling.
PS-I have no idea why I'm feeding the troll. - erictheturtle, on 07/21/2009, -1/+4The loudest sentiment I hear when the California budget crisis is discussed is to deport all the illegals. While this sheriff sounds like an ass and seems to have done a lot of outrageous things, I hear that the Hispanic/Latino population has dramatically thinned due to his crackdown (e.g. multiple classrooms of students have just disappeared from the schools). Maybe there's a nicer way to do this, but it would probably be just as dramatic if we wanted to see similar results in California.
- Metallicanist, on 07/22/2009, -1/+4Racial Crap...grow up.Right there with you jshhmr...Here in Great Britain the idiotic Parliament is about to give over 700,000 ILLEGALS amnesty, can you imagine what this will really amount to,say an illegal+ family +3per illegal, serious figures in a tiny country.Serious question's still being ignored by the UK Parliament...utter madness, this country really need's someone with balls !
