- inactive, on 07/15/2009, -0/+165how can he say "amen" after meals if they stopped feeding him meals?
- elshanero, on 07/15/2009, -2/+163FTA: "...and she insisted that she be allowed to withdraw her plea if Javon comes back to life."
Sounds reasonable. - Rizak, on 07/15/2009, -1/+160Some people don't deserve children.
- Calamier, on 07/15/2009, -3/+105We should refuse her all meals until Jesus comes back.
- bkraj, on 07/16/2009, -1/+79See now you're applying logic here. This is a mistake when attempting to understand people like this...
- smacksaw, on 07/15/2009, -5/+77Those people are the worst Christians ever. Everyone knows you say "Amen" after saying Grace, and you say Grace BEFORE you eat. Morons.
- brianbb98, on 07/16/2009, -4/+68Ramen.
- deftone1516, on 07/16/2009, -3/+63Find me a similar story where someone does this because the child refused to acknowledge there is no evidence for a god.
- FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU, on 07/16/2009, -3/+40They need to do way instain mother>
- Decimit, on 07/16/2009, -1/+35What are you talking about? Kids talk to imaginary friends all the time. Luckily some of them grow out of it.
- wonderchemist, on 07/16/2009, -0/+32That's the problem!
- agbullet, on 07/16/2009, -0/+29wooooshhhh
- curtisag, on 07/16/2009, -3/+32This is an extreme case, but in many religious families, there is often times non-physical abuse (verbal, emotional, etc) directed towards anyone (usually a child) who doesn't conform to their family's accepted beliefs. Some ignorant families will even disown a child if they don't follow the "right" religious beliefs. This of course is a rarity, since most children trust their parents implicitly and believe everything they're being told about God.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, indoctrination of children into belief systems before they are old enough to properly comprehend the complex concepts associated with God, heaven, hell, etc, is the last form of legalized child abuse. Hitler had massive Nazi youth programs designed to brainwash children before they were old enough to think for themselves and question what they're being taught. I don't mean to equate religion to Nazism directly, but it's a fair comparison considering the well known effectiveness of brainwashing children. - cjharty, on 07/16/2009, -0/+28Someone better tell her not to hold her breath.
Actually... - xenuxenuts, on 07/16/2009, -3/+30Jesus gave them the kid so they could kill it. Jesus is like that, a real psycho son of a bitch.
/s - Dauntless1, on 07/16/2009, -1/+27Maybe because unlike some of the articles that start on one subject and then move to religion bashing, this tragedy IS directly caused by religion. No-one said ALL child abusers, just THESE child abusers.
- IgorUnchained, on 07/16/2009, -17/+42Fanatical Religious Cult?
It is called Christianity. Cults dont say "amen".....Christians do.
Ever notice that it never seems to be Satanists who allow their kids and loved ones to die out of a misplaced belief in God?
Ever seen a Satanist shoot up a church? How about a Christian?
Assuming that Satanists arent full of God's love and arent living by the 10 Commandments, but they still believe in mumbo jumbo, does that make Satanism a more peaceful religion than Christianity? History has your answer....no group can claim the death toll that the Christians have racked up (while claiming their own oppression the whole time).
I thought this was supposed to be a religion of peace!?!?! ;) - Dauntless1, on 07/16/2009, -0/+25That's an excuse for God being a douchebag, not his followers.
- ophello, on 07/16/2009, -4/+29There will always be nutjobs. Religion is just a catalyst for moronic behavior, but getting rid of religion (good luck with that) will not stop the abject stupidity and inbreeding that plagues this earth.
You anti-religion people have way too much faith in humanity. - inactive, on 07/16/2009, -0/+23 The women who did this should be refused all meals and see how they like it.
And you wonder why i hate religion? - aromaticchic, on 07/16/2009, -2/+23Religion attacked itself this time. It usually does.
Are you telling me that you believe that this incident does not deserve attention? When children die because of their parents beliefs the public deserves to know about it so that in the future we can prevent children from being in this, protect children in similar situations and show parents that behavior such as this will not be tolerated and will be severely punished. There have been way too many incidences of this nature, and the more they are publicized the greater the chance we have of stopping them through legal or religious means (if that is what it takes to get through to these 'fanatics'). - Haoie, on 07/15/2009, -5/+26Terrible act, to a child who doesn't even understand the concept of prayer.
- inactive, on 07/15/2009, -0/+21“Well, the game is afoot. I’ll take anal bum cover for $7,000.”
- Ruger11mcrdpi, on 07/16/2009, -5/+26What's sad to me is that lately religious groups (it doesn't matter what faith... muslim, christian, jew etc) are getting hosed over every freak cult that pops up, or every extremist organization that decides it wants to do some crazy sh!t.
This is a horrible thing, don't think I am at ALL condoning this... it's terrible. But lately on the internets it seems all people can do is attack religion in general. Religion by itself is not a bad thing at all. Think of the thousands of local and regional health/ medical/ homeless/ food/ care etc programs that would be gone tomorrow if religion itself was gone tomorrow. I know thousands are fed daily in most big U.S. cities by church/mosque/synagogue led social programs.
People having faith in something larger than themselves is not terrible... it's amazing. I would never condemn someone for their faith, never look down upon someone because they maybe believe something I do not believe. While those that do heinous crimes should be punished, there's hundreds and thousands of crimes committed daily by people without faith in a "higher being" (just watch one episode of COPS!) and no one says "***** those crazy non-believers"... for good reason.
I don't know, I'm not the most religious person you'll meet, this is just a pet peeve that's getting worse and worse. Punish these idiots, obviously they are terrible people, but I know people from many faiths who do more than I, or you, or most people will ever do to help the poor/ hungry/ homeless and they deserve better than to be noosed with the scum that exist in stories like these. - IgorUnchained, on 07/16/2009, -2/+20It not only gives them an "excuse" it gives them:
1) an outlet
2) acceptance
3) tolerance
4) a plea deal in court
Depending on the religion, it also affords them tax free status.
Not only does religion allow for all of that, it makes those of us who follow the First Amedment "enablers" by not calling them what they are and dealing with them as such. - otakushark, on 07/16/2009, -2/+18Not that amazing. According to the 1997 Federal Bureau of Prisons Statistics, only 0.21% of inmates were atheist.
39% were Catholic
35% were Protestant
7% were Muslim - copypastry, on 07/16/2009, -0/+16Metavised, your comment is some of the hardest fail i've ever seen in a digg comment.
- SixOrSoPapers, on 07/16/2009, -0/+15How is babby starved?
- McBoom, on 07/16/2009, -2/+17This isn't religion, this is insanity! Where in the Bible does it say to starve or hurt someone who doesn't believe in God, let alone your own child.
People need to stop twisting Christianity, or any religion for that matter. The problem is humanity; even if there was no religion human beings would still do things like this. No where does Jesus Christ say that you should punish anyone for anything. According to Christ, its a sin to even judge someone in your heart. These people weren't following Christ, they were following some sick delusion in their mind.
There is no sense in blaming Christianity or religion in general for this when psychos like these obviously violate the most basic principles of the religion and human nature itself. The reason I choose to follow Christianity isn't because of some fantasy; its because, unlike most other ways of thinking, following Christ's lifestyle means helping and being a friend to all people no matter their views and to always do what is right no matter the cost. - RSS14, on 07/16/2009, -3/+17You are an idiot. Your imaginary friend is not real.
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -2/+16Haha, why wouldn't he just say "Amen"? I've never known a kid that would refrain from eating for an extended period just to prove a point. Children don't have that kind of attention span or basic conviction.
Something tells me we're only getting half the story. - Decimit, on 07/16/2009, -2/+15The only difference between a cult and a religion is numbers and public acceptance.
- xeromage, on 07/16/2009, -0/+13Nice! I can feel a thousand youth ministers scrolling past your statistics and pretending they didnt read them...
- zbeast, on 07/16/2009, -7/+19God Moves in Mysterious Ways.
That child looked at me funny.
-God - inactive, on 07/16/2009, -0/+12You know what's offensive, poprocks? That a ***** religious fanatic starved her child to death. That's what's offensive, not that somebody had the guts to report on this story honestly and to identify the child abuser as a religious fanatic.
- Decimit, on 07/16/2009, -0/+12@poprocksandsoda
Religion doesn't need any help in the "vilify religion with logic" department. - IgorUnchained, on 07/16/2009, -0/+12Ive only met two in my life...but I have never met a Scientologist either, and they still make the news when they do bad things. I would figure that a Satanic Mass Murderer might make headlines.
Im not sticking up for Satanism at all...I consider it as ridiculous as any other religion. - ophello, on 07/16/2009, -0/+12Your analogy makes...no sense whatsoever. Religious cults ARE fanatical. The two dont diametrically oppose each other.
Nice try, bud. - cfuse, on 07/16/2009, -0/+12Or oxygen.
- xeromage, on 07/16/2009, -0/+11Dauntless1, Thats the single best sentence I've read all year!!
- ifruit, on 07/16/2009, -1/+12"I consider it as ridiculous as any other religion." Well Said Sir!
- DocRob0t, on 07/16/2009, -3/+14Religion of peace? You betcha it is! Just like Islam!
"If you don't believe what I believe, how I believe it, I'll kill you!"
Sounds plenty peaceful to me! - Ninh, on 07/15/2009, -4/+14Uh .. burn them witches?
- sodoh, on 07/16/2009, -0/+10Something tells me your only reading half the story.
The kid was 1 years old. He was most likely refrained from eating because they wouldn't give him any food.
Also when he died they put his body in a suitcase and hid it behind a house. How fuk'ed up is that? - c0mputar, on 07/16/2009, -1/+10The good old "he wasn't a real Christian" trick.
- Ghostalker, on 07/16/2009, -2/+11"Antoinette told her followers to pray for the boy's resurrection after he died"
Pray in one hand, ***** in the other.... see which fills up first. - midbc, on 07/16/2009, -1/+10why the /s tag it's not that far from the old testament
- sTiKyt, on 07/16/2009, -1/+10I doubt the parents understood either.
- oriondr, on 07/16/2009, -2/+11Sounds like the child has more sense than his parents.
