- handheldchimp, on 07/04/2009, -1/+37Had they gotten away, that 4 gallons of gas would have been quite hard to split over 10 people...
- dmcbride6, on 07/05/2009, -3/+37It's only news when we steal from them...
- giveer, on 07/05/2009, -4/+26Thieves steal 10 seconds of Big Oil's time.
- DrummerDudeXT, on 07/05/2009, -1/+20next we'll see prices go up because of this
- Tabascork, on 07/05/2009, -5/+19***** the RIAA!
uhh... I mean, ***** the oil companies! - Pinkertinkle, on 07/05/2009, -3/+16"...$2 Million In Oil & Gas"
What's that, like 5 gallons and 2 winter days worth? - hawkspur, on 07/05/2009, -0/+13My grandfather is in the oil business in West Texas and tells me stories occasionally about all the theft and fraud in the business. It really goes with the territory, often times the thieves are never even caught; you can't really trace oil.
- Wreckage, on 07/05/2009, -2/+12The oil companies realized $2 million was missing when they made a check of their couch cushions.
- digitul, on 07/05/2009, -0/+8and what's the deal with airline peanuts?!
- killamockingbrd, on 07/05/2009, -8/+14Karma is a bitch; eh Big Oil?
- yocouchdigga, on 07/05/2009, -3/+9This Just In: Oil Reaches Historic Highs After Theft in Odessa
- drex8, on 07/05/2009, -1/+6Alright! The Fireworks have started!
Happy 4th of July Everyone! - fragMasterFlash, on 07/05/2009, -1/+6Was the getaway vehicle a frickin' blue Prius by any chance?
- hawkspur, on 07/05/2009, -0/+5To sell it? Oil is worth money?
- inactive, on 07/05/2009, -0/+5Somebody's been drinking my milkshake...
- NMRgentleman, on 07/04/2009, -0/+4All in good time.
- DirtyVicar, on 07/05/2009, -0/+3With world oil production at $1.9 trillion per year I wouldn't count on it. That's like someone coming into your house and stealing a roll of toilet paper.
- inactive, on 07/05/2009, -2/+5I wonder how they stole it? I've always wondered if it's possible to tap into a pipeline in some remote area that it runs through. I remember the story of a hunter who accidentally shot the Alaska pipeline, and oil started squirting out the hole.
- JiffyCrackCorn, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2I think you mean "Karm is a bitch; eh Small Oil?" Since there are lots of very small producers in this area who more than likely effected by these thefts.
- rizzo2008, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2Do you realize how little oil 2 million dollars is? Reminds me of wildcatters 100 years ago only more pathetic since this isn't much oil left in West Texas.
- digitul, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2i was waiting to see the "expect gas prices to spike" phrase
- CoD4, on 07/05/2009, -1/+3Breaking: Thieves steal $700 billion in oil money every year and you can't do ***** about it
- BrownieMix, on 07/05/2009, -4/+6Who can blame them with today's gas prices?
- Rotzooi, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2That's $80,000 more than Jammie Thomas' 24 mp3 tunes.
- hawkspur, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2I'm sure they moved it all at the same time. Idiot.
- readerz, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2Them damn Fast and Furious kids!
- sandst0rm, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2Am I the only one who after reading the title imagined that one scene in the new fast and furious when they steal a bunch of oil from that truck http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtCdLWMC-3I ?
- prodgen, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2100 BBL Vacuum truck and unattended tank farm? Profit! A few guys locally were just convicted of it... 5 years prison. They were caught on camera haha.
- seano2101, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2ya know that is about less than 10 of those big fuel delivery trucks that deliver fuel to the stations. A busy station would get more than 3 of these deliveries in a week. 2 million dollars worth is really not that much.
- DirtyVicar, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2What's up with Count Chocula? I mean, are we supposed to be afraid of this guy?
- killamockingbrd, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1You're right.
- inactive, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1That's mighty dumb. I'm surprised there aren't more thefts. Why don't they use a lock to protect such a valuable commodity? They're just relying on the fact that most people don't have a tanker truck or know where/how the oil is stored. In other words, security by obscurity.
- weskarl, on 07/05/2009, -1/+2The tanks you see at most wells have one oil (gas condensate) tank while the other is water. These sit on a wells location until there is enough to haul to to a water disposal and oil to a refinery. These sit unprotected and accessible to anyone that has an 18 wheeler and a crescent wrench, with upwards of 350 barrels of oil per tank.
- DirtyVicar, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1I live in a oil production area of the US, and here most wells/tanks are indeed behind padlocked gates. On the other hand that's not really going to stop anyone dead-set on getting in. About the only protection those tanks have is from nosy neighbors or a cop passing by who gets suspicious.
- lhbaker, on 07/05/2009, -1/+2Did their name happen to be Enron?
- inactive, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1The thieves got stolen themselves!
- meerling, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1I agree, the article is useless. Nobody is all that interested in the fact that criminals are getting prosecuted, S.O.P., it's all about how the heck they did that.
Was it drilling on someone else's mineral rights?
How about hijacking some delivery trucks?
Forging a deed of ownership?
Playing pattycake with the inventory software?
Really, as an informative article, that one is a complete waste. - bkemper, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1Yeah, I mainly clicked on the link to see what sort of bold, inventive trick they used to steal the oil. But the story left out the most interesting part: the "how".
- chogi, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1is vin diesel behind this? someone should give paul walker a call
- deathfix, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1It happens all the time in poverty-stricken nations, eg. Nigeria or Iraq.
- betona, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1Better article from the local paper, complete with the perp's names:
http://www.oaoa.com/news/authorities-33068-federal ... - siszam, on 07/05/2009, -1/+1Road trip!
- Aeron, on 07/05/2009, -1/+1thieves stealing from thieves
- Presbyterian, on 07/05/2009, -4/+1$2 million dollars?.
That's like 5 million gallons.Did they steal a super-tanker?. - DarkRabbit, on 07/05/2009, -7/+3Conspiracy?
Wait a minute. I thought we lived in a rice rosy paradise where conspiracy never happens? - Presbyterian, on 07/05/2009, -6/+2Who the ***** steals oil?.
I mean what's the point.... - scoottie, on 07/05/2009, -12/+3They are not thieves they are Obama, Reid and Pelosi
