"Bloody Vatican claiming Oscar. A deathbed conversion from a scared broken vulnerable outcast doesn't give them rights over his soul or name." - TobiasParker, on 07/18/2009, -4/+63In the words of Phillip J Fry:
"It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for the winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns. And also he got a racecar. Is any of this getting through to you?" - sthulbourn, on 07/18/2009, -0/+12In the words of Marty McFly:

- tofagerl, on 07/18/2009, -4/+15If you think chastity and homosexuality have something in common, you should really visit a gay bar sometime...
- BasalCellBossk, on 07/18/2009, -1/+11How do you know Jesus wasn't homosexual?
- ripple123, on 07/18/2009, -1/+10well we would, but religion insults our intelligence.
- SirBruce, on 07/18/2009, -1/+10What makes you think Jesus wasn't homosexual? He didn't have a girlfriend, he hung around a bunch of young men all the time, and he kissed Judas.
- nextekcarl, on 07/18/2009, -2/+11How? Atheists get scared on their deathbeds, too. We don't enjoy the idea of dieing. And since fear (of the unknown) is the driving force behind the creation of religion (when it isn't just money or power, of course) it isn't surprising that some cling to it at their most vulnerable time.
If anything, that just demonstrates the flaw of religion. - DreadedWalrus, on 07/18/2009, -0/+8As opposed to being one of those straight homosexuals?
- spfldnet, on 07/18/2009, -3/+10It's typical of the Vatican to sidle up to Oscar Wilde, Basking in the glow of Iconic historical figures get's you popularity by association. Like a vampire of popularity. Come on! You know you would love to be in some pop-star's entourage. It would change your life! Not very much, but still...
- ripple123, on 07/18/2009, -1/+8i guess its a change from basking in the glow of Fictional historical figures.
/ZING BITCHES. - mattwalton56, on 07/18/2009, -0/+6"Every Saint has a past, every sinner has a future."
- mine4321, on 07/18/2009, -2/+8You know all this about Jesus from a couple of second (or third) hand accounts? Wow, you Christians are good (at imagining stuff).
- apzdsx, on 07/18/2009, -0/+6OMG You're right! Burying you made a world of difference! Thanks for the tip!
- sageerrant, on 07/18/2009, -0/+6Stop that!
We all hate you and you stink.
Go away. - sndream, on 07/18/2009, -1/+6Ah, deathbed conversion.
Vatican love it because you can't confirm it. - alais, on 07/18/2009, -3/+8You mean the Oscar Wilde who was baptized (twice), talked about re-dedicating his life to the church, often read the bible and wrote:
"The world had always loved the Saint as being the nearest possible approach to the perfection of God. Christ, through some divine instinct in him, seems to have always loved the sinner as being the nearest possible approach to the perfection of man.... Of course the sinner must repent. But why? Simply because otherwise he would be unable to realise what he had done."
Sounds like a mutual awakening to me - Rain12913, on 07/18/2009, -0/+5Because he had all those girlfriends! Wait...
- donsnyc, on 07/18/2009, -2/+6So the Vatican is decades behind of the curve now. Usually they are centuries behind the curve.
- SyuRi, on 07/18/2009, -2/+6Catholic church is on a decline.
- BrendanSheehan, on 07/18/2009, -1/+5He has some great quotes. So many Irish writers with great quotes. Feels great to be Irish.
- bodger, on 07/18/2009, -1/+5Because he dressed badly. Really... those sandles?
- thomn8r, on 07/18/2009, -0/+3Lesse: Jesus never married, never had a girlfriend, hung out with 12 guys all the time, and he told them to eat and drink him. Sounds gay to me.
- IIAmusedII, on 07/18/2009, -0/+3And in that gay bar, you'll probably find a few Catholic priests, sans collar, who have taken vows of chastity.
- BasalCellBossk, on 07/18/2009, -1/+4He was gay too. Funny how the conflicted homosexuals deal with their self-loathing by persecuting other gay people.
- solunas, on 07/18/2009, -1/+3This is Wilde - The Vatican 'rebranding' Oscar.
- joculator, on 07/18/2009, -1/+3Is this according to a personal study you have performed?
- SenorBriano, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2"I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best. "
- Oscar Wilde
He's by far one of my favorite authors with The Importance of Being Earnest being one of my favorite plays. His wit and over the top personality always make for a good read. - DreadedWalrus, on 07/18/2009, -0/+2For those unaware, this is from the mostly not-rubbish Wikipedia parody, Uncyclopedia (the content-free encyclopedia): http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Oscar_Wilde
- styx31989, on 07/18/2009, -0/+2lol or what?
- Suricou, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2Next step: Claim Alan Turing was a catholic in secret, and rebrand him as one of their own too.

- JoeParanoid, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1It's the fashion sense to which they aspire with their red Bruno Magli shoes.
Next, they'll try to claim Aleister Crowley as one of their own, if he hadn't planned his campaign so well. - Suricou, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1Not really. Except for south america, it's shrinking rapidly. Some members losing religion altogether, and some converting to more evangelical-style protestant denominations. It's being drained of membership in both directions.
- Suricou, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1Gramatical your post sense does not make.
- TheCollective00, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1I read that in his voice
- TyIzaeL, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1Let's hope so.
- methdwman3, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1Damn the Catholic Church for looking beyond his sexuality to what he actual did as a human being!
- RogueGenius, on 07/23/2009, -0/+1True that!
- xander, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1ah, ofcourse, former atheists becoming religious demonstrates the flaw of religion
 - solid12345, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1Possible Homer-sexual.
- FAT_PIGGY, on 07/19/2009, -1/+2Vatican City = Pedophile Cult City
- ladyattis, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1LOL WUT
- tofagerl, on 07/18/2009, -2/+3No, I'm saying that people who attend certain gay bars are promiscuous by nature. The same is true of people who attend certain straight bars/clubs known for being what we europeans call meatmarkets. (Might actually be an american expression too, we've copied your expressions for quite some time.)
As to how many are practicing catholics, I've never actually taken a poll. Chastity is certainly not something the catholic is known for in Europe, by the way. Here they're mostly known as grumpy old men who don't really know anything about the society outside the church, and therefor talks about the world as they know it - the 1700s. - AraleNorimaki, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/155566/?tag= ...
- solid12345, on 07/18/2009, -2/+3Yet still a century ahead of the baptists and Muslims.
- DiggMeUpPlz, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1Is it a 2nd (or 3rd or 4th or 5th...) hand account that you know Wilde?
- solid12345, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1Oscar sure got Wilde alright.
- andyb747, on 07/18/2009, -1/+2really...because it looks to be holding up pretty steady to me.
