- PeppermintPig, on 05/12/2008, -16/+328Afghanistan comes to mind. Kurds in Iraq as well, some of whom aren't around to testify after subsequently being gassed to death. Nothing new here. US gives its support, then conveniently forgets. And the vast majority of Americans are completely ignorant to the actions of the government they live under.
- inactive, on 05/12/2008, -4/+144Hmm...a vicious dictator who was a close friend of ours, that we later betrayed...deja frikkin' vu!
- hellotyler, on 05/12/2008, -1/+124If you trust the government, you aren't paying attention.
- lhbaker, on 05/12/2008, -11/+96That's just how we roll.
- inactive, on 05/12/2008, -11/+87And Americans have this crazy idea of superiority. The trial of Vang Pao, or the fact that Iraqi collaborators are not allowed into the USA where they might be safe does not bother the conscience of Americans.
It makes me furious what happens to men and women that try to help us. When they have served their purpose we toss them out with the trash. - shekissesfrogs, on 05/12/2008, -17/+85The Northern Alliance are the Kurds in aftganistan who helped us and now Turkey is killing them.
Now these People. We are currently training and arming a group in Iran called the night of the long knives. They are currenlty labeled as terrorists by our government. Why don't we try the Israeli terrorists?
None of this makes sense. These people should not collaberate with our government, ever. See where it gets them? - AlwaysAwake, on 05/12/2008, -5/+65Situational ethics = dishonesty, lies=SOP ( Standard Operating Procedure = ***** On People )
- lazerus9, on 05/12/2008, -5/+66It was never about fighting communism, it was about war and profit. Read Antony Sutton.
- ibeetle, on 05/12/2008, -2/+46We always like to befriend vicious dictators. They do our dirty work for us and they make great fall guys when things get bad and politicians need someone to blame, or look good for when they need a bump in popularity polls.
- inactive, on 05/12/2008, -10/+56 This must only be news to Americans.
- QsheiK, on 05/12/2008, -4/+41"The only thing worse than being America's enemy is being America's ally."
-Eric Margolis - DivisibleByZero, on 05/12/2008, -7/+45"Sacrificed everything to help us" doesn't mean we can just play nicely with them now. Didn't bin Laden help get the Russians out of Afghanistan?
- shadedred, on 05/12/2008, -1/+32Though I dislike Vang Pao (I am Hmong), and how he's successfully leeched off the Hmong community because of his perceived status as a hero - I don't believe he became a "vicious dictator" until after the war and the promises that were made to the Hmong fell through. And that, my friends, is what the American Gov't seems to be great at doing - creating Dictators.
- HaoTian, on 05/12/2008, -5/+35They get it because they're told from birth that they're #1 and all of their media tells them the same thing. It's pretty easy to believe you're awesome... why would you doubt it?
- sfacets, on 05/12/2008, -10/+38Wow a year ago, this post would have been buried - are Americans beginning to introspect a little?
- inactive, on 05/12/2008, -10/+38The United States have always been run by Psychos and gangster bankers since 1913.
- mistermaster, on 05/12/2008, -4/+28And once he stopped being useful, he was abandoned as trash. Gee, I wonder why he hates the US so much.
- inactive, on 05/12/2008, -7/+28Funny the Americans think America won the second world war, they forgot the 16 other nations that took their steel to the enemy and did so with decisive outcomes.
- sfacets, on 05/12/2008, -0/+21And conveniently "forget" a few facts?
- inactive, on 05/12/2008, -3/+25Well that's easy, you are superior. Only depends on your criteria. In quality of life, you guys suck. In being peaceful and reasonnable: terrible. But you are the strongest monkey in the tree. You lead the world on many fronts, economical, scientific, military.
America controls the world right now. The only reason little Chinese kids are learning English right now is because America leads the world.
That doesn't mean you're good at it, but America does in fact control the world.
It's like when you talk about Bush, everything he did is absolute *****, but he still changed the world forever. For bad or for worst, America calls the shots on this planet. - Homerr, on 05/12/2008, -2/+23And some of our retarded leaders can't figure out why 9/11 happened...
- justice7, on 05/12/2008, -0/+21the kurds were useful as an internal army against the iraqi army initially. However, differences between Turkey and the Kurds is nothing new, and the USA is going to have to side with Turkey (a NATO ally) in the end. It isn't always good guys vs bad guys, there can be three or four sides to a conflict. With that said, this all could have been avoided by not going into iraq in the first place.
- PinkTacoDigger, on 05/12/2008, -1/+19I wonder how many downed US pilots got save by the mountain tribesman of Laos and Vietnam during the war. This guy shouldn't be going to jail. He feels the US government turned it's back on his people, and while his people are being systematically killed off in the mountains as a result of their support for the US, he decided that he wasn't going to stand by and do nothing.
- internetcoward, on 05/12/2008, -5/+25someone is delusional idiot. do you think the people of ANY country run it, no. America just happens to be this fairy tale place in everyones mind of a people-run government, it's a lie, and you;re an idiot for believing in it, so step off jackass.
- benejoseph, on 05/12/2008, -1/+19FTFA:
"The government presents the case as a clear-cut gunrunning conspiracy in violation of the Neutrality Act, which outlaws military expeditions against nations with which the United States is at peace."
Did anyone else see the irony in this? - inactive, on 05/12/2008, -9/+29Last time you did that, they attacked the World Trade Center.
- Jlaugh, on 05/12/2008, -0/+16Yes, you can blame them for the actions of the man they put in place and helped keep there.
- ronaldinho, on 05/12/2008, -0/+15Vang Pao was just used and now once he's useless as a political tool, he (and his people) becomes scum. This is disgusting
- inactive, on 05/12/2008, -1/+16Th3 EVIL Federal Reserve killed all the unicorns, ground their bones and used them to season the babies they eat.
- TheSlinky, on 05/12/2008, -1/+14--comment deleted--
- MikeFallopian, on 05/12/2008, -4/+18Before 1913 of course America was a prosperous paradise, with unicorns frolicking in the meadows.
- mzwaterski, on 05/12/2008, -0/+12We basically have done that.
- FATEorFORTUNE, on 05/12/2008, -0/+12it wasn't just him, it was thousands upon thousands of hmong people who gave their lives for the US
- Galume, on 05/12/2008, -2/+15I live near a major city in mid-California, and I can tell you for sure that our city has taken in thousands of Hmong refugees- they're now part of Fresno society- living next door to the rest of us in this increasingly multi-cultural city. But of course that side of the story didn't make it to the frontpage because it doesn't fit the template. Down with America- we SUCK- YEAH!
- Notquitesane, on 05/12/2008, -0/+12"People should not be be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people"

As a society, in terms of education, you are right. But your elite beats the rest. - rand0mm0nkey, on 05/12/2008, -2/+12Oh, come on... how many other peoples' cultures had we obliterated before that happened?
- rlh1, on 05/12/2008, -7/+21Hey, wait a minute,
How come the Communists aren't getting any heat here.
They did their slaughter when the Americans left, took away all rights, send people to re-education camps and continue to suppress their rights.
Why are the Communists getting a free pass on this? - ad33lshahid, on 05/12/2008, -0/+10well america didnt offer them any incentive to return the weapons that America had forced into the hands of war-hungry tribal leaders and didn't for example, help invest in schools and education in a war torn country. So the weapons fell into the wrong hands, and the rest is history.
- Sapulator, on 05/12/2008, -0/+9Wow. I have many Hmong friends, and if you ask them about their history, they seem to hesitate. Now I have a glimpse as to why...
I feel like they are treated as bad if not worse than native americans when we took their land. - DCGaymer, on 05/12/2008, -0/+10If you're trying to figure out American foreign policy....you have to think of her as conjoined twins. One good, one evil. Which is which? That's the question.
- Samurai77, on 05/12/2008, -0/+10We did it to Poland after WWII as well, they fought with us and we handed them to the Soviets.
- designdraft, on 05/12/2008, -0/+9This is really quite terrible.
- ad33lshahid, on 05/12/2008, -0/+10Why is American law enforcement wasting their time trying to defend Laos?.. you can say that about alot of countries that America is meddling with
- makeitloud, on 05/12/2008, -4/+15Wow. Here's some intelligent discussion right here. A bunch of Rah-Rah-We're-Number-One Americans, some Canadians who don't know very much about American history or its political development, and of course the obligatory ***** who thinks nuking people is cool, all insulting each other. Bravo.
- ronaldinho, on 05/12/2008, -3/+12like half of our general population......this country is hopeless
