- mgraham80, on 06/14/2009, -9/+164I hate twitter, but this - not Ashton Kushner's latest musings, or his feud with CNN - this makes me glad it's there.
- Klowner, on 06/15/2009, -8/+78I love it when people intentionally hate things because they're popular, rather than just be overall apathetic about it like most people would.
- inactive, on 06/14/2009, -6/+66Iran is pretty ***** up right, I would hate to be in that country right now.
"Iran restored cell phone service Sunday that had been down in the capital since Saturday. But Iranians still could not send text messages from their mobile phones, and the government increased its Internet filtering in an apparent attempt to undercut opposition voices. Social networking sites including Facebook and Twitter were also not working."

not "we want a revolution" or "freedom" or "justice" or anything remotely similar. - Bloodwine, on 06/15/2009, -3/+37Today's youth are usually misinformed. I'm not sure if misinformed or uninformed is more dangerous.
- Klowner, on 06/15/2009, -3/+29I don't think you spelled his name correctly, but I also don't think it really matters.. so.. nevermind
- Ryokuchaa, on 06/15/2009, -5/+29With all the media blackout in Iran, its amazing that twitter is the pretty much the only way Iranians can get information out to each other, and to the world. While "real news sites" can barely keep up to what happened two days ago. It is good to see twitter being used by the people of their country who are no different then anyone else in the world, just wanting freedom and respect.
- MidnightTide, on 06/15/2009, -0/+23and you wonder why governments around the world are starting to look at the internet and are trying to regulate it, they don't want the masses to know what really is going on
- Bloodwine, on 06/15/2009, -4/+23None of the above.
We're just tired of having Twitter shoved down our throats as the second coming of the internet.
Some Iranians found that Twitter is the only way to get their message out. That is good that they found an outlet, but such an edge case doesn't suddenly make Twitter awesome. - edzynda, on 06/15/2009, -3/+22The only reason CNN and other news networks are just now reporting on the events in Iran right now is because of the overwhelming amount of posts about it on Twitter which then propagate to other social media outlets. Hate Twitter or not, it's an outlet for information and people are paying attention to it. Those that are bashing Twitter in this thread should probably read the ***** article and comment about that. Post your Twitter gripes somewhere else.
- mitikomon, on 06/15/2009, -0/+17In our culture saying "Allah-o Akbar" loudly was always a way to show our protest. last night I shout "Death to dictator".
it's not about the meaning, it's a slogan and had lost it's real meaning. - Bloodwine, on 06/15/2009, -0/+16and two years from now people will say, "The revolution will be Google Waved".
who knows what fad will be around 4 years from now. - Xihix, on 06/15/2009, -6/+21Wow, Twitter is useful for something.
- inactive, on 06/15/2009, -0/+13I'm confused. How do you tweet if all internet and mobile coverage has been cut off? Does twitter defy the laws of physics?
- dizavin, on 06/15/2009, -1/+14wasn't it two years ago that people were saying that "the revolution will be facebooked"?
- inactive, on 06/15/2009, -6/+18You really want to equate reading facebook and twitter with, say, reading Tolstoy, Dostoevsky and Orwell?
Twitter is the modern equivalent of yelling "fire!" in an already panicked theater. You're getting short bursts of one-sided "OMG LOOK HERE!!", without getting any context or story. There is no time for being rational adults with Twitter. - Ouze, on 06/15/2009, -0/+11brilliant! amazing! Twitter is so incredible
hey just wondering, how many followers gets him an ambulance? - crammaz, on 06/15/2009, -7/+17I have been following @Change_for_Iran - simply amazing tweets coming from the heart of the protest... His latest is particularly heart breaking:
"Change_for_Iran we have now some students with urgent need of medical attention I'm calling out to all ppl who can come here don't leave us #iranelection"
please follow... - zibox, on 06/15/2009, -2/+12The campaign has asked for the green movement to chant Allah o Akbar from roof tops. Although people are predominantly chanting "Death to the Dictator".
- leftofthecenter, on 06/15/2009, -1/+10Now that's a TWEET THAT CAN'T BE BEAT!!! TWITTER TRACKER TWITTER TRACKER TWITTER TRACKER!!!
- Rayc, on 06/15/2009, -0/+9It's basically Moussavi's "change we can belive in" slogan. Plus, all the hardliners seeing kids getting the crap beaten out of them for saying "god is great" might think that the government was anti-islam.
- j0en, on 06/15/2009, -0/+9"if the revolution isnt going to be televised, then ***** ill probably miss it"
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 06/15/2009, -0/+9No kidding. That's the real story here. We already knew Iran was an oppressive dictatorship, but a use for Twitter?
- QueenOfAStoner, on 06/15/2009, -1/+9I hate the amount of time we spend talking about ***** subjects like what the new Mac will look like or what the new useless cutting edge app is gonna be called.
- kernel16, on 06/15/2009, -2/+10Here's a good rebuttal to this:
http://tomwatson.soup.io/post/21357572/The-Revolut ... - sulthernao, on 06/15/2009, -5/+13They are chanting all the other things too (in other videos).
- Ryokuchaa, on 06/15/2009, -0/+8The internet still hasn't been cut off yet, it is just very slow users say, and hard to keep a connection long. While some places such as youtube and facebook are blocked, Twitter has some how managed not to get on the block list yet. While SMS services were taken down pretty fast, cellular services have been reported to be working on and off.
So no twitter is not defying physics, just happens as of yet to be blocked. So there are still a few ways to both post and view twitter in Iran, it is just getting harder as the days go on. - beatles901, on 06/15/2009, -1/+9Please spread word about a cyber effort to exert pressure on the paramilitary in Iran. They have launched denial of service attacks on US websites that are run by live bloggers feeding us up to the minute information about what is going on in Iran on the ground. To fight back, open these two URLs in as many tabs/windows as possible and simply leave your computer running overnight! We must show solidarity with them in their quest for freedom! The 2nd link targets PressTV, the mouthpiece of Ahmadinejad and Khamenei.

Thank you! - enthreeoh, on 06/15/2009, -10/+17god, you're a ***** moron.
- FoxFaction, on 06/15/2009, -0/+7That's a stupid opinion. 19 diggs is too many for my fine hipster tastes.
- mitikomon, on 06/15/2009, -0/+7Internet is not down yet. twitter i blocked and if there is anything that we are good at is bypassing Internet filter.
- HueyFreeman02, on 06/15/2009, -0/+7They have satellites.
- Bloodwine, on 06/15/2009, -2/+9This is my site? I wasn't aware that I had any stake in Digg.
Also, it's apples to oranges comparison, because you don't see a huge media push about how Digg is revolutionary and that we should all use Digg.
I could care less if Digg fails, because I'll just go to another site, and another after that. I do not pray at any social altar. - IamZed, on 06/15/2009, -3/+10"The key force behind this is the next generation, the Millennials, who elected Obama in America and may oust Ahmadinejad in Iran. They want freedom; they are sick of lies; they enjoy life and know hope"
I'm gonna puke. - Stiverton, on 06/15/2009, -1/+8He must have kush on the mind.
- QueenOfAStoner, on 06/15/2009, -2/+8I also hate you.
- scriptcoder, on 06/15/2009, -7/+13Stopped reading after he started blowing the "millennial" generation.
- ElectricRebel, on 06/15/2009, -0/+6Iranian reformers need to be informed of Tor to get around this Internet filtering.
If you know anyone in Iran and have a way to contact them, make sure to tell them about Tor ASAP.
http://www.torproject.org/
http://www.torproject.org/index.html.fa (in Farsi) - Ryokuchaa, on 06/15/2009, -0/+6I think it is more of a reference to the 1979 revolution, pretty much the slogan of that revolution. So really it speaks almost exactly as "we want a revolution" or pretty much anything similar.
- Bloyru, on 06/15/2009, -0/+6Wouldn't it be an orgasm gone right if it resulted in a kid?

"Death to Dictator" - A11YND, on 06/15/2009, -2/+7Hah. The Revolution isn't even televised.. How will twitter help the problem?
- utopiannative, on 06/15/2009, -5/+10I generally agree, twitter is another pointless way to keep tabs on celebrities.
but i think it's been kinda cool seeing the 'tweets' from young Iranians who have no other way to communicate with the outside world.
gdi, i said tweets - BlackJacket, on 06/15/2009, -1/+6Twitter can work through text messaging, without the use of the Internet. But apparently text messaging went down too.
- Joudoki, on 06/15/2009, -0/+5Coming soon: Iran blocks internet
- Chakat, on 06/15/2009, -0/+5Proxy servers, mostly. There are groups out there constantly posting new proxy servers to use to access social media sites.
