The Economist reports on Anonymous and upcoming protests

economist.com — And it is a positive article! (No mention of 'hackers') This is a huge boost for Anonymous and the upcoming protests. 1.2 Million print copies every week.

  • londonroad, on 01/31/2008, -0/+33Wow, this is huge. The Economist is a VERY well respected publication (on a parr with the Financial Times). The article is really well written.
    I did not know that the security services in some countries monitor it.
    I was staggered to learn that Nancy Cartwright (the voice of Bart Simpson) has made a massive donation to the DANGEROUS CULT.
    I guess that would make some people feel a bit less guilty about torrenting episodes of the Simpsons each week. Whilst Nancy Cartwright can clearly afford these donations (she's loaded, right?) many people can't. They are forced into what is tantamount to slave labour. It's disgusting.

      By the way, the 4th wave was excellent. on 30 Jan at 2300 GMT I wasn't able to access scientology.org AT ALL. It was down non-stop for a good few hours (at least).

      e.g. at 2pm on Saturday 3000 people suddenly turn up and start going through all their books -- but never making a purchase. Put the books back on the wrong shelf, overload their staff.. but stay 100% within the law.

      It would cost their business a lot. It may help prevent new recruits joining.

      UK people - they often have a stall outside the John Lewis department store on Oxford Street. ("Free personality test"). I'm sure we could create epic lulz with those crooks.. like accidentally spill coke on their e-meters etc.

I'll be surprised if the protest in Austin has much turnout--most of the info about them I've seen describes the protest as being "at the CoS place right next to UT". Unfortunate, considering most of the ANONYMOUS folks don't seem to have ever been within a hundred miles of a university, and seem equally as unlikely to be able to read a map.

Kudos to the magazine for publishing the truth, and major kudos to the author who had the balls to go against the $cientologists and write the truth.

    It's funny. I was mentioning something about $cientology to a friend, and some random person overheard me and said "Hey, do you know about the raid on Scientology on the 10th?". The word is starting to spread. Virtually all my friends knew about it before I mentioned it to them.

    Seriously, this is BIG. The Economist is the leading International english language news publication. THEIR EDITORIAL BOARD HAS HEADS OF STATE ON IT! And Almost all world leaders read it, on top of Senior government officials, and everyday people!
