Here's a few quick questions for you warming deniers:
1. Why has every important scientific organization WORLD WIDE endorsed the position that man is affecting the global climate in a negative way if Global warming is simply "The evil Democracts and Al Gore's big conspiracy!!!!!!!11"
2. Have you ever actually asked yourself how Gore would in any way benefit from a push towards alternative energy, or was that just a given? Perhaps his friends in this big ole conspiracy would pay him some extra cash?
3. Do you realize that switching to alternative energy sources immediately will totally re-build the economy, stop any global warming, and end our dependance on OPEC oil? Or have you been too busy worrying about "all those poor corporations who would have to make a good choice, instead of the cheapest choice"?
4. What is this total ***** about "LOLZ THE GLOBAL TEMPERATURE IS DROPPING LOLZ!!!!!1"? News flash: A few years of data have NO EFFECT WHATSOEVER on the theory of global warming. Global warming is about large, world wide trends over long periods of time.
The recent more cool temperatures have not been experienced world wide, and do not have much of an effect on global warming. The overall trend since we started using fossil fuels is up.
http://www.yhub.org.uk/resources/Climate%20Change% ...
also see:
http://gristmill.grist.org/images/user/6932/2000_Y ...
The temperature is increasing at an extremely abnormal rate. Natural cycles work at a much slower speed. As can be seen in the second graph, we're experiencing a rise in temperature faster then anything seen in 2,000 years.
Also, once again the denialist article is in "World News". Notice that it is not in Science: They don't care about the science: This is all about their poor corporations, and their hatred of Al Gore and his movie.(Which, coincidentally, have nothingto do with the science behind theory Global warming, or the scientists working on it) - Charlotte_Web, on 01/29/2009, -60/+99Al Gore has bet it all on the theory of Man-Made Global Warming. He's too deep in to change his position now.
If man-made global warming were suddenly rejected, he would look like a buffoon, or worse, an opportunist who made money by scaring people.
And, even worse for someone like him who craves the spotlight, he would suddenly cease to be relevant. - trucanadian, on 01/30/2009, -13/+49This is the biggest load of ***** i've ever seen. Virtually all scientists (including the IPCC) conclude that global warming is a real and serious threat. Do you really think your smarter than them? Also you clearly dont understand the word climate. Climate is long term (as 100 or 1000-year trends). Not a 2 year trend dumbass. Also learn how to spell.
Buried X 100 - zoodoo12, on 01/29/2009, -19/+45The ignorance is running high on digg lately. Not too long ago Bush denied global warming and digg ate him up for it.
- trucanadian, on 01/30/2009, -10/+35Also this site is not the least bit credible.
- MediumCool, on 01/30/2009, -12/+36If we're wrong about global warming and we make the change to a cleaner renewable energy sources, how is that a bad thing?
In addition:
John Coleman is a journalist not a climatologist. His years performing as a weatherman lend him no unique insight into our current climate issues. The Earth is a closed system if you add CO2 to the atmosphere the temperature will rise. There is a simple experiment anyone can do in the back yard on a sunny day with two, 2 liter bottles, 1 cup of water, 2 thermometers and one alka seltzer tablet to illustrate the effects of CO2 on heat absorption. This experiment is, of course, not to scale but suffices to show the effects of CO2 on a closed system. - mediabias, on 01/29/2009, -51/+74One environmentalist admitted it - it's the best chance to bring the USA under more global control.
Wake up, people. - Renton, on 01/29/2009, -7/+29Global Warming != Al Gore
Al Gore is not a climatologist. Why the ***** is everyone saying he invented it? - willster580, on 01/30/2009, -10/+31'The majority of scientists are wrong. This guy who is paid money by oil companies is completely right, though.'
***** morons. Even if it turned out that Global Warming wasn't real (it is real), you'd still be ***** morons for not believing people with much more qualifications in the field than yourself. Why are you so ***** afraid of not being able to drive a goddamn monster truck everywhere? Shut the ***** up and deal with it. - mwrl, on 01/29/2009, -43/+64Nature is far more powerful then man could ever be.
- mywhitenoise, on 01/29/2009, -22/+42You guys are unbelievable. Back in the 50's people believed smoking and drinking had no negative side effects, that it was perfectly healthy to smoke and drink while pregnant. You read about that now and think "how could anyone be that dumb?", but there's STILL people like that! This also reminds me when all those greedy Republicans (like McCain) thought our economy was strong, when only a day later the stock market crashed. Look where we're at now.
You'd think people would wake up already. - induren, on 01/30/2009, -13/+31Who the hell is pushing this? I want to see which network of Diggers is not only digging this but burying user comments they disagree with. Freaking ditto-heads.
- WhereAmI, on 01/29/2009, -28/+46Haha, its like all of the retards of digg have gathered in these comments.
- twilightzone, on 01/29/2009, -16/+31This isn't a ***** game where one side is right or wrong, this is an issue that needs to be addressed. Whether you think it's man made or not, stop trying to get on the "winning" side. No one cares if you're right, there's still an issue.
- Alael, on 01/29/2009, -4/+18The word you're trying to spell is 'lobotomy'. This was a cruel and useless operation promoted by psychs; if you'd ever seen a person who'd been through this operation I don't think you'd joke about it.
- yocouchdigga, on 01/30/2009, -13/+27Seriously, where did all these ***** nutjobs come from?
Climate change is happening no matter what you want to call it. Whether mankind is contributing or not is a non-issue, it's happening. It's time to make the responsible choice and do the best we can as a species to keep it from getting out of control.
(on a sidenote: the comments above are scary as *****, looks like we're doomed) - inactive, on 01/29/2009, -48/+61Global warming is a joke and you can figure that out by asking people exactly what is happening. There can't be a consensus on science when there is no consensus on the theory.
- darkism, on 01/30/2009, -10/+23Buried as totally idiotic. I suppose you people don't accept evolution either.
- misternils, on 01/30/2009, -0/+13For gods sake stop ***** grouping people into liberals and conservatives INCLUDING YOURSELF. Read about issues and decide for your self on each subject don't just take a side based on how you label yourself.
- epublicus, on 01/29/2009, -3/+16I'm aware of that. My point is:
If someone tells me that "Global Warming / Climate Change" is bad for the planet, and all the creatures, great and small, thereon, then by inference that person MUST have some baseline "Global Temperature / Climate" on which to base the claim.
I'm simply asking what baseline "Temp / Climate" is being used and why. Any particular value, given the climate history of this planet, would seem to be arbitrary, at best. What do you think? - FuZi0nDET, on 01/30/2009, -11/+23"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe." Albert Einstein
Global warming deniers I'm looking at you! - slagmacg, on 01/30/2009, -8/+20Buried for stupidity and poor spelling. Try again.
- epublicus, on 01/29/2009, -21/+33Does anyone know what the "optimum" global temperature is?
- artwhite, on 01/29/2009, -9/+20"0.41% of the total gas is C02" ? How about 10 times less?
The real number is 0.038% carbon dioxide. - Chillout2k7, on 01/30/2009, -7/+18I find it interesting how you generalize and call millions of people hippies for questioning what effect mankind's excessive consumption is having on the world.
- pagit, on 01/29/2009, -16/+27so 625 million cars emiting an average of 6 tons of CO2 per year not counting other fossil fuel burning, the CO2 sink can actually keep up so that there is no effect on atmospheric conditions?
- lettruthout, on 01/30/2009, -8/+19OK deniers: if all the abuse that mankind has been giving our environment is not enough to do damage, how much would be enough?
Right now I tend to agree with most of the science world that we're in trouble. Don't agree? The burden of proof then is on your shoulders.
For how much longer can we pollute before we're in trouble? Tell us please. - artwhite, on 01/29/2009, -4/+15Not if you are a Type 2 civilization :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kardashev_scale - zelig, on 01/29/2009, -64/+75When Gore's theories are debunked, will he have to give back the Nobel Prize?
- kemp34, on 01/29/2009, -36/+47The thing is, there are much more serious, AND CORRECTABLE, environmental issues that can and ought to be addressed.
"Global warming" (er, is that "global climate change"?) is just so big and overwhelming and diffuse, it is hyped because its a perfect human control mechanism.
Global tax anyone? - d0nk3y, on 01/30/2009, -5/+15Dugg for The Onion!
...wait... - inactive, on 01/29/2009, -6/+16What's more is that not one "scientist" that I know of is talking about any thermodynamics on a global scale. The gases that can hold the most heat when irradiated are some of the smallest in percent-composition. And let us not forget our old friend hydrogen-dioxide, which is the #1 heat regulator. And what about CO2 absorption by water and circulation via the various air currents?
There's a host of variables that a high-school leveL student of science could bring up to oppose man-made global warming, yet it's the adults who act like children and follow along with what someone else says -- no research, no critical thinking, just a pitcher's worth of global-warming kool-aid ... OH YEAH!! - SQLserver, on 01/30/2009, -5/+15Exactly. These people are convinced that "them evil liberals" are going to push a carbon tax and destroy their freedoms, while in the mean time the republican party has already shown themselves to be quite capable of taking away real freedoms.
- dustinmacdonald, on 01/30/2009, -4/+14One environmentalist admitted it? ***** man, it must be true!
- eliot2000, on 01/30/2009, -4/+13I'm so glad you guys aren't running the country anymore.
- elephantstomp, on 01/30/2009, -1/+10I don't recall having to bury this many comments before
- eliot2000, on 01/29/2009, -23/+32Deniers: What proof of climate change would you accept as adequate?
- vikingcoder, on 01/30/2009, -2/+11Michael Chrichton was a science-fiction author, an excellent one at that, not a scientist.
- chuckDontSurf, on 01/30/2009, -2/+11***** global warming. I don't care if its man-made, man-accelerated, or man-indifferent. What bothers me is people polluting when they don't have to, and not making use of cleaner, renewable energy sources (e.g., the sun and wind) when we have the technology to do so. Just as as small example, think of the sheer square footage in rooftops (commercial and residential) across the country or in major cities. Think of the solar energy that could be harnessed from that.
- ThinkOutTheBox, on 01/29/2009, -18/+27Verifiable proof. Like actual experiments that have been conducted that eliminates all other possible causes from the equation.
Until then your only being led on by junk science. Read any other scientific paper out side of climatology and you will see in the papers that there is a section listed with experiments, the methods, data, and every piece of information to recreate the experiment to verify their theory.
If you come up with some odd ball excuse for all that, prove that man has created global warming in the past, pre-industrial age.
If you come up with some odd ball excuse with that. Prove that Humans caused global warming before Humans even inhabited the earth.
Also I would like real data not data derived from sources like tree ring samples, ice cores, etc.
It is very well known that CO2 is a trace molecule, so please make experiments available that eliminate all other plausible sources of Global Warming.
Or simply put , how about some real science. CO2 causing global warming should already be long past forgotten because it is known that CO2 lags temperature.
Some come with some real science and then we will start listening. - sockfire, on 01/30/2009, -2/+11This is like one big massive troll.
Stay Classy, San Diego. - rationalist, on 01/30/2009, -6/+14Your day has come and gone, flat-earthers. Keep denying, it won't change reality.
Reality being, as Philip K. Dick said, that which, when you stop believing in it, still exists. - Alael, on 01/29/2009, -6/+14They have to write it that way or the hillbillies won't read it.
- inactive, on 01/29/2009, -9/+17There is no such thing as a 'global temperature' we can't even measure how much precipitation falls on the earth in a single day. Weather changes on a daily basis and climate changes all over the world. The Sahara used to be a rain forest, man had nothing to do with the change.
- Sludgehammer, on 01/29/2009, -14/+21I'm guessing that it'd involve a quote from the Bible.
- CoolHandLuke70, on 01/29/2009, -13/+20Well, with people like Henry Kissinger and Al Gore getting the Nobel Peace Prize it does not seem like much of prize!
- emailowndme, on 01/30/2009, -2/+9apparently people did not want to acknowledge that the author of such scientific journals as Jurassic Park, Rising Sun, and The Sphere is not in fact a scientist at all...
- AZRoboto, on 01/30/2009, -5/+12I lol'd at the comments in here.
- brynlb, on 01/30/2009, -10/+17Yikes. Looks like the wingnuts are out in force here.
- artwhite, on 01/29/2009, -11/+17I second that
