- yngtimmy, on 08/15/2008, -2/+6Its about effing time. GO TEXAS!
- dgoforth, on 08/16/2008, -0/+4To carry a gun in Texas you must go through a very strict review process including background checks. These teachers will have to do the same. In Texas we already carry guns and all the things that people said would happen has not. Nothing bad will happen in this school because a teacher has a gun concealed somewhere on his body. But if someone else tries to start something they can quickly be taken out and many will be saved. You guys reported on the church in CO where an armed church member killed the intruder before many more people would have been killed. How many would have been saved if a few teachers would have been armed in Columbine (not sure about the spelling). If you arm responsible citizens we can stop alot of this stuff.
- RuffRidr, on 08/15/2008, -2/+6Ya, because the other way of having mass shootings and letting the police do a body count after the fact is so effective.
- Minarchian, on 08/16/2008, -2/+5You're not really a reverend aren't you?
I mean...a real preacher would want people to be fully protected from evil.
Or so I thought. - bigdad5, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3I am a professional Pistol Instructor and a New York State Certified Hunting Safety Instructor . I like the idea of certified teachers being able to protect Students from harm in the worst case ... . Lets face it the most at risk groups in the world are teacher and students in the confines of a school with help generally 30 minutes away. The Sheriff is correct and like others have said Texas must undergo back ground checks, firearms safety training, and what ever the school district requires. There are going to be na sayers that just hate firearms in any manor . But as a former substitute teacher and have seen for my self what bad things can occur. Good idea Texas you got it right. Protect the students at all costs.
- ddmurphy, on 08/18/2008, -0/+3Perhaps there's some form of violence control that would not be as lethal as a gun but I'm more trusting that the teachers aren't the ones going nuts and I trust them with the firearms.
- txchica, on 08/18/2008, -0/+2I'm going through the process of becoming an adoptive parent through the CPS system here in Texas and have seen the good things they are doing, so I think it's somewhat unfair to slam them for being overly aggressive. I think it's better to be proactive than reactive, or should they wait until the kids are so traumatized or even worse, dead, before they act?! It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation, so which way would you lean? And no, I don't think that children should be taken away from their families without evidence of wrongdoing, but we all know how kids will protect their parents, even when it's the parents who are abusing them.
@Elise, I don't think they went out to the Mormon compound because they thought they were "weird", but because they found there were numerous underage girls with children, not just one child, but several. And there were several conditions that had to be met before the moms got the kids back, the main one being that the children had to be kept away from the men who were taking advantage of them. BTW Texas is a great place to live. - bigdad5, on 08/16/2008, -0/+2Hey jenn38 what money spent on GUNSSSSsssss . You do understand that these would be personal owned firearms. gees how blind . !!!!!!!!! And for the record i agree with DGOFORTH !!
- DDBonds, on 08/16/2008, -1/+3It appears to be a small community, I live in one, everyone knows everyone. They probably know the teachers and with the known risks feel it is a protection for their children. I say let them govern themselves. It is constitutional.
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -1/+2You are right about their CPS. I know of a family traumatized by their interferrence because some child abuse zealot turned them in on a suspicion. They took their kids and then told them where they were. AWEFUL!!! The college I attended instructed you to see every bruise as a possible abuse situation, telling us to carefully document what we found. Total overkill! My kid is always banged up cause she is a klutz! Watch out in Tx cause they might think YOU did it. All that OTHER wonderful stuff about TX is true though. Can't complain.
- ReverendJon, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1That's right there has never been a case where a school has been sued over a teacher that lost control and beat-up a student.
With this plan we can now have gun fights in class. I can see it now "Billy for the last time sit the hell down"(BANG) "now stay down you little bastard" Mark my words as this will happen! - ReverendJon, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1I see that you dugg me down but I don't see any disputing the fact's!
- ReverendJon, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1That's a great thought I should carry a gun during service then when I feel satan attacking one of the members I can shoot them to protect them from the attack!
- ReverendJon, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1Texas is very good with back ground checks is'nt it Texas CPS that under investigation now for molesting and abusing kids!
No matter how good your intentions are there will be some that slip through! - ReverendJon, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1It's the mob thought process we are dealing with here, There has only been a few schools under fire I agree one is too many, but, let's fill the schools with guns that will stop it from happening again! or will it further the escalation of armed conflict? Handguns today rocket launchers next year? I still say that punishing parents that don't supervise and raise their children to not misbehave is the solution. you cannot regulate good behavior however, if you give a severe punishment to the parent and the kid when they are bad you can cultivate at least a neutral behavior that shows respect. But then again let's put a gun in every teachers pocket! I'm not a pacifist If you need to bash somebody upside the head to protect others then I am the first in line, Guns don't belong in schools or airplanes.
- ReverendJon, on 08/18/2008, -1/+1It seems that thinking is not your strong point!
- ReverendJon, on 08/18/2008, -1/+1I know what CCW means, I also know that a typical woman stashes the gun in the purse and it sits wherever the hell they drop it! You can have all the guns at school as you idiots want as soon as my children are done.
You say that I am ignorant yet you want to live under the premise that the average school teacher A. knows how to safely handle a gun. B. Will be able to even use the dam thing if the need arises. I am not against gun ownership or carrying in general but a few hours of training then you're good to handle a gun around kids is STUPID! Read the last part of your statement where you agree that teachers commit crimes, why not think first then speak! - OneFaith, on 08/19/2008, -0/+0Guns in schools
We the people allowed prayer to be taken out of our schools and the result has been violence. Now we the people think guns and guards will solve the problem? Only God’s protective covering is strong enough to thwart the kingdom of darkness’s plan against us (we the people).
Linda DiChiara - ReverendJon, on 08/18/2008, -1/+1However that crime rate is how much higher then the 3-4 cases where students shot up the school! You should really do research before you speak!
- Elise1984, on 08/16/2008, -2/+1Hrmn, that's where we're going after the military. Honestly, I think that Texas is the best bet for seeing Liberty, and true Constitutionalism restored in our life time. This makes me have hope again.
However, their CPS program has got some problems that might have answers only in a total purging and restarting of it (They attacked the Mormans (for being weird? Their "evidence" was false??!!) 2, they were on the news recently because of widespread sexual abuse of the children in the system.)
Other than their Child "protective" service,m
Texas seems pretty great. - KickOuTTheUN, on 08/16/2008, -2/+0They can't reveal it in the story but blacks are out of control and the teachers have a right to protect themselves against these wannabe criminals. Their parents could care less and some even encourage it.
- ReverendJon, on 08/15/2008, -5/+2I guess that next students will need to carry weapons to fight off sex offender/teachers. Then we will have the issue when a kid gets shot of wether the teacher was justified. JUST STUPID! NO WEAPONS IN SCHOOLS PERIOD!
- ReverendJon, on 08/16/2008, -4/+1What happens when some teacher having PMS goes on the next rampage? Or perhaps when a teacher leaves the gun in a desk drawer and some angry or just dumb kid gets a hold of it and shoots the place up. I'm all for self defence and gun ownership etc. Schools should be gun free. If you want students to behave then hold the parent accountable for the kids actions! Also have uncle sam get the hell out of the way of parents that discipline and hold their children to account!
- jenn38, on 08/16/2008, -4/+0if the school is so worried about security why not take the money spent on guns and hire trained professionals. i for one can not believe that the thought is even being entertained.
