- Hetman, on 07/03/2008, -7/+168This is complete *****. She is just as guilty as her boyfriend if not more. It was her little half sister. This is just more sexism in our justice system. I can guarantee if this was reversed it would be completely different story. The girl friend would have gotten off with probation and the brother would have been sent to jail for life. You have a responsibility to your younger siblings and in my mind she is way more guilty than her boyfriend.

- Zarokima, on 07/03/2008, -0/+132I call ***** on the whole "We were acting out Mortal Kombat" thing. Now, I'm not sure if this is the norm, but everyone I know stopped acting out movies/TV shows/video games/etc. before we were even teenagers. More importantly, they're way past the point of knowing better than to beat up someone ten years younger than them, and even if they were "just playing" they should be able to tell when they're hurting someone, especially bad enough to kill her. Both of them deserve nothing less than the maximum allowed punishment.
- shutaro, on 07/03/2008, -0/+90Mortal Kombat? Please, that's so 16 years ago... It would have been more believable if they had blamed Grand Theft Auto or something.
- aboyd, on 07/03/2008, -1/+67From the father:
“It (the sentence) was very fair,” said Trujillo’s father, James Henry, who lives in Limon. “She did goof off and make a mistake.”

Apparently, hitting and punching a 7 year-old until she falls unconscious and dies is "goofing off." Good to know. The next time my daughter savagely beats her younger brother I'll just say, "Stop goofing off." That'll teach her. - inactive, on 07/03/2008, -27/+86BABALITY
- tj241, on 07/03/2008, -2/+61Wtf? Of course she didn't mean to kill her....but you don't kick and body slam a 7-year old girl.
- blackrage, on 07/03/2008, -5/+60Well...we will see why many black people don't trust the court system when the boyfriend is sentenced.
I hope I'm wrong...But you know I'm right. - bassman12593, on 07/03/2008, -0/+51So, this girl killed her sister and she may not have to go to jail. But if I remember correctly, a kid who changed his grades got 35 and another dude who smoked pot got life?
What the *****. - Pizzini3000, on 07/03/2008, -4/+49WOW.
What's worse? The horrible disrespect in that comment, or my laughing at that comment? - Alphabet, on 07/03/2008, -0/+44Have you ever seen those videos of people doing backyard wrestling? They jump off the roof to body slam another person. They hit each other with chairs. They throw each other on tables in order to break it.
seriously, people are ***** retarded. - scabbers, on 07/03/2008, -0/+39And Wesley Snipes got 3 years for tax fraud.
- MrZaiko, on 07/03/2008, -0/+36Im pretty sure the Whole "Mortal Kombat" excuse was made up by the attorney.
Blame it on something... its the American way! - kagebutsu, on 07/03/2008, -0/+30The father sounds like a ***** tool.
- ileftfark, on 07/03/2008, -0/+29Yeah, but he's *black*. Maybe you didn't catch that part.
/wishing it were sarcasm - DangerMouse9, on 07/03/2008, -0/+29Florida oranges, nothing but Florida oranges.
- psevium, on 07/03/2008, -1/+28"Kids" play fight, not ***** 18 year olds who can easily injure a 7 year old. Since when does a 17 year old guy who is more or less an adult in build, slam and throw around a 7 year old?
- Realnemesis, on 07/03/2008, -4/+30Once again ***** like this always happening in COLORADO...
wtf do they eat over there? Godamn. - gskill, on 07/03/2008, -3/+27Some ppl aren't just wired correctly in the head.
- Pake, on 07/03/2008, -1/+24That sad part is just as you say, she's equally responsible, but while she gets a cozy little suspended sentence, watch the boyfriend end up with life in prison all because of his gender and race.
- Atomic1fire, on 07/03/2008, -1/+23So?
Another family lost a son
The same family your talking about lost an 7 yearold
where was compassion when the 7 year old got the fatality? - bob_the_alien, on 07/03/2008, -1/+22I really don't know, but the fact that I did the same thing worries me, ahh well.
- TakeMyCrabs, on 07/03/2008, -0/+20If they are that old and they think acting out Mortal Combat moves is harmless, then they should be jailed for stupidity. What's next?
"I thought cars could turn invincible because of Mario Cart so I drove into oncoming traffic!" - Hetman, on 07/03/2008, -2/+22I agree with you. But then you need to give her boyfriend the same exact sentence though. Why hurt his family at all?
- inactive, on 07/03/2008, -10/+30FINISH HER!
- UltX, on 07/03/2008, -7/+25OUTSTANDING...
- Kohaxx, on 07/03/2008, -1/+17The legal system in the US is bass ackwards.
- Namaha, on 07/03/2008, -0/+17***** that, if it was a brother and his girlfriend, you know the brother would be sent to jail for life while the girl would get off with nothing more than a probation or something.
- alexforcefive, on 07/03/2008, -2/+17The karate level is like right after the rape level
- scooterbaga, on 07/03/2008, -2/+18There IS a middle ground, ass.
- Kohaxx, on 07/03/2008, -1/+16As horrible as it is, somehow the fact that the black boyfriend dating a white girl ended up with way more time doesn't surprise considering this is Colorado we're talking about.
- Kohaxx, on 07/03/2008, -0/+14"Trujillo and her boyfriend, 17-year-old Lamar Roberts, told police they were acting out the video game "Mortal Kombat," when they kicked, karate chopped and body slammed the little girl in December 2007. Garcia later died of her injuries. "
WTF....I don't care who you are, nobody aged 17 or 18 should think that body slamming seven year old girls won't kill them. They're either mentally handicapped or insane. - kingUssop, on 07/04/2008, -1/+15You know, the Mortal Kombat and other crap excuses are irrelevant.
She killed a child by beating her to death and she's getting no jail time.
The judge should be ***** embarrassed to call themselves one. I don't care if the parent says "Wahhh don't take away my other baby" either. They aren't the law, they aren't the best person to judge how to deal with their own murdering kid. - sovereign3, on 07/03/2008, -0/+13I know these are different states, but they're very similar situations. Lionel Tate, who is black, received a life sentence for a similar crime in Florida.
http://archives.cnn.com/2001/LAW/03/09/wrestling.s ...
And many wonder why we're skeptical of the justice system?
The prosecutor's rationale was that Tate "knew exactly what he was doing." Presumably a 14-year old boy knows exactly what he is doing, but Ms. Trujillo did not? - ShadowFoxxx, on 07/03/2008, -0/+13"Trujillo and her boyfriend, 17-year-old Lamar Roberts, told police they were acting out the video game "Mortal Kombat," when they kicked, karate chopped and body slammed the little girl in December 2007."
You know what, if you don't have enough common sense to think 'oh, she's a 7-year-old little girl and much smaller than we are', then you deserve prison time. I don't care if it was an accident or not, two fully grown people wrestling with a small child in complete stupidity. And body slamming her? That deserves a smack on the head. - SimonTB, on 07/03/2008, -1/+14I don't care. Sure it'll suck for the mom, but the daughter deserves a long ass time in prison. Maybe a prison for the criminally insane would be more fitting, as she's 18 and claims to have been acting out a video game.
- mikec00l, on 07/03/2008, -1/+14FLAWLESS VICTORY
- bxblox, on 07/03/2008, -0/+12Our justice system is basically sexist. A man and woman commit a crime together and they will ALWAYS try to give the woman a deal for flipping on the man. "Women can't be criminals, he must have manipulated her and brainwashed her into helping him." It's all *****.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 07/04/2008, -0/+11Only in America. The greatest nation ever was or will 'er be.
- Zandarrr, on 07/03/2008, -1/+12I thought this was going to be an Onion article. Oh god....
- djholybolt, on 07/04/2008, -0/+11I used to play fight with my brother and my friends and we always knew if we had applying too much pressure or hit too hard.
This sounds like a case of them getting drunk and beating the girl to the point of death.
The story even states that drinking had occured and that family members had noticed bruises on the little girl from previous incidents.
Next thing we'll see is some stupid ass lawyer try and pin midway and Mortal Kombat for the death of the kids and repremand the game from being sold anymore. It's a damn good thing that they're not liable. - Drahkar, on 07/03/2008, -0/+11Dropping someone once is an accident. Repeated body slams, kicks and hits push the whole thing out of the realm of accident relatively quickly.
For example. if I'm cleaning my gun and it goes off once and hits you. That could be an accident. If I'm cleaning my gun and it goes off ten times... Its a little harder to believe thats still an accident. - warlokaz2004, on 07/03/2008, -0/+11That 7 year old was used as a punching bag by 2 individuals older and stranger than she was. This isn't 2 kids the same age roughousing and acting out a video game or pro Wrestling and 'ooops' someone got hurt -- it was an assault on a child. An assault on a child leading to death SHOULD equal jail time, there are no 'extenuating circumstances' there.
- funkymoose, on 07/03/2008, -1/+12I feel like i'm going to go to hell for digging up your comment..
- Kohaxx, on 07/03/2008, -0/+11She needs to learn not to beat the hell out of people much smaller than her, where's the best place to learn that? Prison.
- StabmasterArson, on 07/03/2008, -0/+10I must have missed the level where you participated in the two on one beatdown of a little girl.
- LeeSoong, on 07/04/2008, -0/+10"WINNERS DON'T DO DRUGS."
- Message on arcade Mortal Kombat consoles.
Do drugs = do time, for life.
Do murder = ''Stop goofing off !" go to bed without supper, no game playing for a whole week ! - inactive, on 07/03/2008, -5/+16Your called a DOUCHEBAG.
- djholybolt, on 07/04/2008, -0/+9I just imagined that in my head.
It turned out as awesome as you had said it. - inactive, on 07/03/2008, -0/+9Apparently less than any other state: http://calorielab.com/news/wp-images/post-images/f ...
