- FUR10N, on 04/28/2009, -3/+49I wish the swine flu would end already, these Madagascar jokes are getting old.
- Smyley, on 04/28/2009, -1/+25Ports were shut down last week.
- killplaystation, on 04/28/2009, -3/+26The swine flu has no symptoms that differ from the normal flu. The handful of people that have died from the swine flu lived in underprivileged countries and pale in comparison to the nearly 10,000 people that die every year from the regular flu.
My source: The CDC
This is sensationalism at its worst. Most news like this should be prosecuted for inciting irrational panic.
Stay informed - overnine9k, on 04/28/2009, -10/+31In other news, the president of Madagascar has shut down all of its ports.

- Hetman, on 04/28/2009, -5/+18I blame it on the illegal immigrants. They obviously swam over to asia and the middle east and infected these people.
- jpop, on 04/28/2009, -0/+13Good luck on if it is real vs counterfeit too...
- shutaro, on 04/28/2009, -0/+12Probably very similar... Only it would have been on scrolls and all in old timey language.

- borez, on 04/28/2009, -1/+10Checks swine flu map. Nope... still doesn't appear to have been any deaths outside of Mexico. Couple of dribbly noses, some chesty coughs, a few headaches and some achy limbs, but no deaths.
Gets on with life. - frostbyt, on 04/28/2009, -2/+11OMG not the FLU! I may need a shot or a couple days off work! HELP US ALL!

- seltaeb4, on 04/28/2009, -0/+7On which side of the International Swine Line is New Zealand?
- Harabeck, on 04/28/2009, -0/+7The Black Plague would not spread like it did back then. How many fleas infest your house?
- seltaeb4, on 04/28/2009, -1/+8"The swine flu has no symptoms that differ from the normal flu."
That's not true. Victims of the Swine Flu are much more prone to oink. - DrVic, on 04/28/2009, -1/+8SUCKS!
- Stemnin, on 04/28/2009, -0/+7If I start to turn..
- ashadocat, on 04/28/2009, -0/+7when was the last time you went to the hospital for the flu? this is just the flu only more contagious. the big worry is that hospitals will be to full to treat people... also like the flu you get this variant and your immune to it from now on. it's just a completely new never before seen variant so nobodies immune.
- ventg4fun, on 04/28/2009, -0/+6Y'know, I'm old enough to remember the previous swine flu outbreak back in the 70's... They developed a vaccine, and wasn't that big a deal. We should be kept aware of the demographics spread, and CDC should keep a close watch, but other than that, don't worry about it. It's a lot of media hype as some of the other comments suggest.
- inactive, on 04/28/2009, -0/+6I don't recall the Bible mentioning the Swine Flu. I guess I'll have to read Revelations again.
- ashadocat, on 04/28/2009, -1/+7I think ,no, I hope you misplace the /sarcasm. it should go at the very end...
- Culero, on 04/28/2009, -0/+5the ONLY reason it should end....
- maliath, on 04/28/2009, -1/+6I'm not going to disagree that it's not sensationalism, because it is. I just want to point out that, unlike normal influenza, this particular strain has a genetic combination that make it easier to spread. Therefore, there would simply be much higher numbers of infection.
Yeah, us in the West will be fine. We have medications like Tylenol to ward off high fevers and decongestants to prevent mucus accumulation in the lungs and sinuses. And, we have plenty of antibiotics to cure secondary bacterial infections.
But, much of the world does not have these things. If there were a true pandemic, there would be many deaths from secondary bacterial infections across the world. - ronaldinho, on 04/28/2009, -1/+6What I want to know is whether this has caused significant death in the US and other developed countries, because if most of these deaths happen in Mexico, it could be because of simply inadequate hospital and medical care. Conversely, when SARS broke out in Hong Kong in 2003, HK was a place that had pretty good medical care, so that threw a genuine scare because HK did not have bad medical care to blame for. I don't think this will even trump SARS, personally
- Railz, on 04/28/2009, -0/+5Sounds like a good twitter account idea in theory but it'd go like this.
"I have the pla"
"Friend died before even confirming case of plague"
"Father has confirmed case of pla--Father dead" - MacParrot, on 04/28/2009, -0/+5"first cases confirmed in the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region, as world health officials said they suspect American patients may have transmitted the virus to others in the U.S."
Right because people from Mexico NEVER travel anywhere. - nemomarlin, on 04/28/2009, -0/+5There will be pandemic anyway, whether the bible says so or not. It is too general to be a prophecy.
- Depthfunction, on 04/28/2009, -0/+5I've had it with these ***** swine flu stories on this ***** website!
- DarkoKun, on 04/28/2009, -0/+555,000

- Rudegar, on 04/28/2009, -0/+5interspecies oral favours ftw!
- ShadowofAres, on 04/28/2009, -0/+5Wasn't the vaccine worse than the flu itself?
- midbc, on 04/28/2009, -0/+5or genetically modified to really ***** with Mexican people
- Biscuitz, on 04/28/2009, -2/+7I would digg you up to hundreds if I could.
- cathpah, on 04/28/2009, -1/+6GIANT GONADS!
- seltaeb4, on 04/28/2009, -0/+4and lead to consumption of pork rinds.
- sciencelovesyou, on 04/28/2009, -3/+7First off, I just want to clarify that I'm not saying that the swine flu is some sort of apocalyptic monster, Hell-bent on destroying the planet, and that we have but mere weeks to live. I seriously doubt it will do much more then fizzle.
However, I want to point out that when people say that its "no different from the normal flu" they're being a tad bit stupid. Yes, the flu kills more people each year. The big difference is that the average flu-season flu has a kill rate of .1%. Even the big baddy Spanish Flu was only about 2.5% By comparison the ol' pig puker has a kill rate of 7% The reason a number of people are ***** themselves over this is that due to the idea that, if it spreads at the pace of a normal influenza, that's a lot more deaths and a lot more infrastructure disruption.
Is this the end of mankind? Of course not. But please don't say that it's the same thing as John Q. Flu, that's just being ignorant.
