Swedish Police About to Shut Down The Pirate Bay (again)
torrentfreak.com — With their ongoing failure to find evidence in The Pirate Bay server seizure fiasco, the Swedish Police now seem to be resorting to any methods they can to disrupt the activities of the popular torrent site. Their latest effort appears to be an attempt to bloc

- JonnyTrombone, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Although I agree with you, that isn't what this is about at all! This is about people using TPB to get child porn. And instead of trying to take a stand for 'free speech', they should just ban all child porn torrents. It really isn't a tough compromise to make.
- 0xbadfood, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Except that it is. You either police content, or you don't. More importantly, it's *much*, *much* better for law enforcement to have a place like TPB where the sickos put their kiddie porn and they can be discovered and arrested, than to have them on darknets.
- skyfire1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20***** the RIAA!!!
- metalica77, on 10/11/2007, -21/+4Don't get me wrong i'm all for The Pirate bay but I don't think they can cheat death for much longer. Everyone knows that they've got pirated content on there servers not hosted but linked.
It is a matter of time that is all i am saying- olddirtycr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15Thousands of sites link to the pirate bay, which links to illegal stuff.... lets ban those sites. You shouldn't/can't legally get in trouble for linking to illegal content as long as you don't host it.
- ToadLeg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11"Everyone knows that they've got pirated content on there servers not hosted but linked."
Wrong. They only have links on their servers. There is no pirated content on their servers. Links are not "pirated content."- Tippis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3...unless the liks themselves are copyrighted, but good luck proving that ;)
- NyQuilPillz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1dun dun dunnnn.... next step someone iwll figure a loop hole to copyright links and i blame you! .... unless i can get to it 1st then make money woo then i thank you :)

- TheFoundry, on 10/11/2007, -16/+4People still use The Pirate Bay?
- Raistlen007, on 10/11/2007, -9/+7The RIAA is dying. Experts say that their greatest mistake was suing Napster instead of hooking up with them.
The MPAA is repeating the RIAA's mistake. You can't fight technology, nor can you sue the millions of people who pirate media.
If they succeed in shutting down TPB, all that will happen is that ten others will take its place. It's happened before with other programs.
When will they finally get it? The companies have to adapt, they have to change their business model. Nothing else will end well for anyone.- unclemeat, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12You've posted this exact same comment on other stories.
- Raistlen007, on 10/11/2007, -9/+2Only on one other, and look at the date and time, it was when both stories were unpopular, as I was unsure which was going to turn popular.
- AmericansRevolt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1well its all true. companies must adapt. period. even budweiser is now selling flavored beer to keep up with trends. the RIAA are the slimiest scummiest POS's out there, and i cannot wait till the day when they are forced to disban

It's about the child pornography freedom of expression crap they have..- AcePup, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1What the ***** does a correct title have to do with anything? It has nothing to do with the child pornography.. do you know anything about swedish laws? They blacklist what they want and choose. Glad you can read thoroughly!

-Fixed. - scabbers, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I wish the dupe police would stop you assholes digging the same story to the front page 5 times a day.
- BrainCoder, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4At the least they do great metal.
- Paperthin, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2DUPED!
I felt like obnoxiously contributing :) - Ikerous, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Completely misleading title (again). No one is trying to shut them down. The Swedish government blacklists sites that people use as a means to obtaining child pornography. This list is used by the major Swedish ISPs. Which means that people in Sweden, using a few specific ISPs won't be able to access TPB. Frankly, TPB *is* a good resource for child pornography and if the Swedish citizens want those sites on this list then it makes perfect sense what they're doing.
- crushfan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Hmm.. I'm going to burn all my MP3 archive to some DVDs and hand them to my friends -- just to 'celebrate'.
- cdkodi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Does it look like it is going away for good? I heart you PirateBay !!!

- bouche, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2super duper and buried
- dereo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1TPB has said on many occasions that if they get shut down, they have backup servers in other countries that will go up in a few minutes
- TechCF, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yeah, but this is DNS based blocking.. so it will take a while for people to get to know the new addresses
Anyway this blocklist is only working on swedish isps (dont think TPB host uses those filters)
- TechCF, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yeah, but this is DNS based blocking.. so it will take a while for people to get to know the new addresses
- blorc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Digg is going to have to add a "Triplicate" reason to the Bury button soon.
- Tippis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Whaaaaaat..? it's only the fourth time this has happened this week :P
- stauken, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Dupe article was already submitted. Already saw this on front page earlier this morning.
- Nidy1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1The funny part is that if people looked about 3 inches to the right of this article, they'd see the other one in the top ten.
- SirBotchness, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Hope this happens so i can stop hearing about this ***** site. It sucks.

- Ninnux, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3I don't see the problem with the authorities trying to stop pirating. I never have. I mean, we all know what goes on at the Pirate Bay. Yes, I know there is legal content linked, but the majority is illegal. The argument to keep it going is splitting hairs....and its still unethical and wrong. I just don't get it.
- Parkinsons, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The pirate bay is a search engine; it is not to be held accountable for what others put on the Internet. It would be like suing google because you can use the filetype:torrent command or “-inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" "Last modified" mp3” command.
- Cimlite, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The problem with this is mainly that they are using foul tactics to do it.
They already tried to go through the correct channels and shut down the site... we all know how well that went. Now they are trying to do it by accusing the site of distributing child pornography. That's the one thing that is *not* allowed to do on the site. There has never been a whole lot of uploads of that nature (according to the people who run the site). Also instead of contacting the site and asking for their help to remove all content they think is wrong... they just go ahead and put the site on the blacklist for child porn.
The reason they are doing that is fairly transparent... they don't care about any child pornography, not this time. Instead they just want to shut down the site in general. That is abusing power, using something that was designed for stopping child porn... which is a very good project I might add, for fighting piracy. This is just the government using a loophole to bypass Swedish law. Simple as that.
Think of this like someone posting a link on Digg.com to a site of "questionable content" resulting in the government shutting down the whole site. People would be pissed.
- callthisnumber, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2All we need to do is publicly execute a few pirates. Set a precedent. That's how they would handle it in China... if they weren't the biggest pirates of all.
- TroubleInMind, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Let the Finns take over. The Finns won't take any ***** from anybody. Swede pacifist pussies.
- ever, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hahah, what? The law here in Finland is nowhere near as tolerant towards stuff like The Pirate Bay as it is in Sweden. Had TPB been Finnish it would've been shut down in a few months' time even if the servers operated in another country. The copyright laws we have are far from optimal, one of the reasons being Finns DO take ***** from other countries.
I like what The Pirate Bay is doing attitude wise but as far as good torrent trackers go it kind of stinks to be honest. Sucky categorizing, terrible user interface and a comment system filled with spam. BUT The Piratebay's "stick it to the man" (or something like that :D) attitude and the message it gives to the majors kicks ass :).
I'm startijng to feel like the big brother's watching in every damn country nowadays. Worldwide anarchy is what we need :).

- AndyCool, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Go on Pirate Bay...Go on!
- yourbrokenoven, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3not surprised. never was interested in anything the pirate bay had to offer. i'm glad they're causing a scene, though. maybe in a few years media industries will listen and respond to consumer demand. at the VERY least, prices of movies, books, games, and music need to come WAY down.
- U53RN4M3, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I'd say this was the child porn:
http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3522735/Jailbait___Fjortis._We_love__real__teenage_girls.- ever, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2 I know this is tasteless but one of the comments just caught my eye;
"Are you guys complaining about these pics...after u ejaculate?"
.. And as a side note; I don't think TPB tolerates child porn any more than any other tracker - I believe it's the sheer amount of new torrents per day that makes it difficult to filter out the immoral ones.
- ever, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2 I know this is tasteless but one of the comments just caught my eye;
- Kristoffc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0the pirate bay supports this site also.
