- mwalker05, on 01/06/2009, -38/+289this is exactly why the military loves that age group. simple minded and incapable of critical thinking or understanding the consequences for their actions.
- Lucas123, on 01/06/2009, -5/+205Take a bunch of young, hormonally turbo-charged teenagers and young adults, isolate them on bases and in barracks, then throw in bravado and beer and what do you get? The world's greatest fighting force ... and VD.
- smartcause, on 01/06/2009, -3/+179Next survey: Music fans don't like the RIAA
- WordsnCollision, on 01/06/2009, -6/+152Support the troops - send beer & condoms.
- imightbewrong, on 01/06/2009, -5/+140yeah unlike all the kids who go to college lol
- BrettFromTibet, on 01/06/2009, -4/+112What? Marines drunk and horny? Noooooooo!!!!!!
- llamarama7, on 01/06/2009, -7/+86Who knew?!
- 5plic3r, on 01/06/2009, -3/+82Burried as spam: this is just a "join the marines, get laid" ad.
- PHiZ187, on 01/06/2009, -3/+60Clever propaganda by the Marines to increase teenage enlistment.
- Hetman, on 01/06/2009, -5/+57People who are going to be going to war to fight are partaking in risky behavior. Who would have thunk it.
- TCBevolver, on 01/06/2009, -2/+52And in other news, survey shows circus full of clowns and acrobats.
- nmanguy, on 01/06/2009, -3/+52Buried as inaccurate. The description says female, but then you click the link and you're staring at some horrible *****.
I really need to stop confusing someones avatar with the story's photo.
It was a trap... - inactive, on 01/06/2009, -8/+54Wait. The military is full of less than educated teens who like the drink? Wow, thanks for the info.
- Mexrocker, on 01/06/2009, -1/+46My ex-girlfriend went off to the Marines after high school. About a year and a half later I find out she has a kid.
- goeric, on 01/06/2009, -1/+37That creates more friction therefore increasing chances of breaking.
- Dumbledorito, on 01/06/2009, -1/+37That's Lance Corporal Dirty Hos to YOU, maggot!
- X9001, on 01/07/2009, -2/+38All my Marine friends have two goals in mind
1. Get ***** up(drunk and the like)
2. Get laid - megaton, on 01/07/2009, -1/+36PRO TIP: People willing to be shot at give other risks less heed.
- ironhide, on 01/06/2009, -4/+39It's only negative if you think that people in the military never get drunk or screw around. Trust me, I've got Navy in both mine and my wife's family and there was plenty of debauchery to go around.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -0/+34File this under "no *****".
I was in the Marines from 88-92, and guess what? Yup, all drunk and horny back then too. The Navy girls were always an easier lay than the female Marines. - Samurai77, on 01/06/2009, -2/+36Nothing new here.
Prior Marine. - BedPost, on 01/07/2009, -0/+32I bet you're very happy it wasn't nine months earlier, eh?
- frascellyboy273, on 01/06/2009, -6/+37Recruiter: if you enlist today, youll get this... (pulls out bag)
an ounce of weed!
and if you sign up for the full tour of duty...youll get this hot bitch poster
Marine: aww ***** yeah mannn! - itlnstln, on 01/07/2009, -0/+28Pepperidge Farm Remembers
- stonecircle, on 06/11/2009, -1/+25My ex-boyfriend went into the airforce, called me one night in a panic, said he'd gotten drunk, had sex with a woman in the back seat of a car, and surprise, suprise. He was going to be a daddy.
- CactuarTamer, on 01/07/2009, -2/+24Yeah, well, my parents didn't send me to school OR bother to homeschool me and I still got straight A's in Mathematical Fluid Dynamics, Quantum Mechanics, Forensic Anthropology and Theoretical Linguistics. An IQ of over 9000, and a groundbreaking dissertation on the anomalous rotation rates of galaxies under my thinking cap. Yet, I'm sitting right here next to roughly two dozen firearms, several khukris, and one glaive, all transported by a pickup truck festooned with no less than five Confederate flags. Oh, and we must not forget the $10,000,000 worth of warp-enabled surveillance probes (you wouldn't even know how to reverse the polarity on their sheild matrices)... Not to mention a full time job, eighteen hours a day, seven days a week.
College is going just great. Jackass. - Dumbledorito, on 01/06/2009, -5/+27So you put a bunch of people in a confined space under lots of stress, and further, these are quite fit individuals, trained to aggressively pursue goals and (to some degree) conquer them...
And sex comes as a surprise? It's not so much negative as "well, duh." - GoneGreen, on 01/06/2009, -3/+25Former Marine.... Is this news to "anyone"?
- Memnochxx, on 01/07/2009, -1/+21A gay picture if ever I saw one.
- SingularityX, on 01/06/2009, -0/+19"In 2005 a Colorado high journalist named David McSwane showed that military recruiters were willing to help him cheat drug tests and falsify academic records so he could qualify to join the military"
I remember that, though they should really specify that he was a high "school" student, it took me a while to figure out what the hell they meant.
Here's an article with some information about that event if anyone is interested. http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/local/articl ... - erasedgod, on 01/07/2009, -2/+21This is talking about recruits. Unlike the Air Force, many of our recruits don't make it to the Corps.
The fact that the article says "...where recruits are paid actual money to cohabitate with drunk, stoned, horny teenage girls." should be enough for anyone who knows what they're talking about to call BS. Unless you can pass a urinalysis right before you get to boot camp and still somehow be stoned (or drunk) without having access to the outside world.
Recruits go to one of two recruit training depots. San Diego, where only male recruits go, and Parris Island, SC, where recruits have absolutely no access to recruits of the opposite sex.
These women (girls) may be nasty when they walk into the recruiter's office, but to try to pass it off like they're having sex in recruit training is just dishonest. - Dumbledorito, on 01/06/2009, -2/+21I think they'd be hornier; When did you last see a fat marine of either sex?
- mcnees287, on 01/06/2009, -5/+22Um and what did they expect?
i have some buddies in the marines and some of the stories they tell are insane.
the barracks at some of these places seem more like what you think a frat house would be - charlietuna, on 01/07/2009, -3/+19Well sure. You wouldn't want Marines to think about risk a whole lot, so hump now live fast etc. They deserve some benefits with all the other ***** they deal with. A little well used snatch is some consolation.
- leapingstan, on 01/07/2009, -1/+17The two guys on the front of the pic look like they gonna have it with each other.
- metalgel, on 01/06/2009, -3/+19are marine teenagers more drunk and horny than teens who aren't in the service?
- DreKor, on 01/07/2009, -1/+17Militaries haven't changes a lot over the millenia, have they?
- JenniferInMO, on 01/06/2009, -14/+29The light-heartedness of this article and these comments are disturbing. Young, sexually active women with self esteem problems are purposely being recruited to act as what? Concubines? Sex toys? It is disgusting. Those girls need help not more abuse.
- sigmaman2, on 01/06/2009, -6/+20You know, if they are willing to go fight and die in a foreign land, I say why not let them have one last drunken Roman orgy.
- kevinmoore, on 06/13/2009, -1/+15I don't know which is worse; the fact that you're bragging that your mom gave you straight As or that you think remote controlled planes are advanced technology.
- GovernmentsGun, on 01/07/2009, -1/+14They recruit them at the height of testosterone fueled aggression, when critical thinking skills are hardly in use, especially as it regards value structures. Then they propagandize them with thoughts of valor, defense of "the homeland" and integrity. When they get to boot camp, the propaganda continues while the individuals identity is beaten down, and then reformed as a more aggressive, less questioning person. The definitions of what valor and integrity are, are tightly controlled so that they then think that killing another person is the height of such virtues.
It's very simple. Violence in, violence out. Violence is the basis of government.
And yes, I do know what it is like to be there. I grew up a military brat, lived in a Marine Corp town until I was 19 years old, and then joined the military myself. A decision that, now that I am older, I look back on with regret. - HumanNouveau, on 01/07/2009, -6/+19Exactly. The Marine Corps needs to take a hard look at this. This is starting to sound more like the 1970s military than the rather better disciplined one we have come to expect lately. Respect starts with your fellow servicemen and women. I can see where young people who have been living recklessly would find war zones a logical place to continue life on the edge. However, it sounds like we need to do a little bit of that old-fashioned turning boys/girls into men/women thing -- to include having self-respect and respect for others. Those things are much better generators of combat power than adolescent bravado and reckless abandon.
- C4Aries, on 01/07/2009, -3/+16Oorah Marine Corps.
- k3rfuffl3, on 01/07/2009, -5/+18How much order do they need to have such discipline? College students don't have drill instructors or superiors, but they manage to get their degrees in things that are equally or more complex.
- spammishking, on 01/07/2009, -1/+14ummmm officers are required go to school as well as many many enlisted (I among them). Students and soldiers are not mutually exclusive, other than the haircut it's sometimes hard to tell the difference
- onux16, on 01/07/2009, -2/+15Nope.
- redskyformiles, on 01/06/2009, -11/+23dirty hos.
- jeexbit, on 01/06/2009, -3/+15Where is the [OBVIOUS] tag when you really need it?
- Smokeydabear, on 01/06/2009, -3/+15Civilian says no *****.
- lhbaker, on 01/07/2009, -2/+13So newspapers should just print positive news?
BTW, San Francisco has a fairly significant history with the US Navy, don't you think? Or are you geographically challenged as well as being reality challenged? -
