- Friskus, on 01/10/2009, -1/+23"Five of the pirates reportedly drowned while making off with their share of the ransom money after their skiff was hit by high seas. "
Well that is justice. - RedHeadedFreak, on 01/11/2009, -1/+21No, that's incompetence. Justice would have been a team of SEALs or SAS delivering some high velocity lead instead of ransom money.
- Anand999, on 01/11/2009, -0/+15I wonder if some/all of the 5 might not have been accidental drownings... More money for the rest of the pirates. These aren't people with especially strong morals, after all.
- coreyb, on 01/11/2009, -1/+14They arrrgh okay.
- WhoDoneIt, on 01/11/2009, -0/+13"Drowned" = "Shot through the head once they were in the water heading out to sea"
What happens on the open sea stays on the open sea. - Lordy1952, on 01/11/2009, -2/+10COD4 much?
- duggtodeath, on 01/11/2009, -2/+10How is babby formed?
- Pinkertinkle, on 01/11/2009, -1/+9Pirates got karma'd.
- zaferk, on 01/11/2009, -0/+7As opposed to low-velocity lead
- Dronez, on 01/11/2009, -0/+7I'm wondering if the money is still floating out there somewhere.
- akchrs, on 01/11/2009, -1/+7Unless they were paid in quarters then I'd say yes.
- dawnraid101, on 01/11/2009, -1/+7The ninja's drowned them
- Vosona, on 01/11/2009, -1/+7Bullets are far superior to lead pipes.
- inactive, on 01/11/2009, -0/+5The thing that sucks is they have so many people still in ransom, they can't just board the ship and smoke those skinnies.
- Dronez, on 01/11/2009, -1/+6Why aren't the companies that own these ships hire armed security guards? It seems like a small price to pay rather than deal with pirates and ransoms.
- Vosona, on 01/11/2009, -0/+5Paper money doesn't fall apart in water because it is made of a certain material, which is why you can still recover the fifty dollar bill you left in your pants before they went into the washing machine.
- wigglypig, on 01/11/2009, -1/+6Absolutely. First thought I had when I read this outcome.
I tend to think that saudi billionaires in league with countries and their defense forces are not so accustomed to handing over millions of dollars to anyone who asks for it. - RSS14, on 01/11/2009, -0/+4Yee-Haw!
- Akairenn, on 01/11/2009, -0/+4No, it isn't. You know what the hell you're signing up for.
The problem is, various laws and treaties make putting large-caliber weaponry on merchant vessels a fairly bad idea. Thanks, pansy ass world governments. - wcarver, on 01/11/2009, -1/+5I'm amazed they can't protect an oil tanker from a bunch of guys in speed boats. Some OPEC prince losing a few million doesn't bring a tear to my eye, but getting close enough to rack a few hundred pounds of high explosives against the hull as a bargaining chip, could cause a ecological nightmare if things go wrong.
- isiz, on 01/11/2009, -2/+5Pirates have morals too you know.
- BossKey, on 01/11/2009, -0/+3How many guards should they have per ship? Given that the pirates are usually fairly well armed, versus your boat security.
As for the cost...there are 20,000 ships passing through the Gulf of Aden every year, 50,000 passing through the Strait of Malacca (another pirate alley). You're talking about increasing the number of employees by a stadium or two. Now propose that to shipping companies whose margins are challenged by a poor worldwide economy, volatile fuel costs, and skyrocketing insurance costs...and let us know how you do. - TheAeneid, on 01/11/2009, -1/+4Why the hell can't we blow these ***** pirates out of the water? We're seriously too nice.
- nitrojunky24, on 01/11/2009, -1/+3all you need to do is arm the boat with some mini guns a little gun training isn't much to ask when you're carrying 80 million dollars of oil (at current prices) they're not going after the oil anyway just ransom money but to avoid a ransom situation this is what you need anybody gets to close without proper identification you simply blow them out of the water.
- inactive, on 01/11/2009, -0/+2100s are still being held hostage. If you kill the pirates they may just turn on the hostages :(
- PityDaFool, on 01/11/2009, -0/+2I don't get how this works. Why not just blow up the pirate boat when they try to escape with the money?
- inactive, on 01/11/2009, -0/+2Or drivers just grabbed them, from beneath
- DPyro, on 01/11/2009, -0/+2It is much when you ask a civilian crew to risk their lives and fight off the better-armed pirates.
- mecharabbit, on 01/11/2009, -2/+4Great news. This and the fact that I found out today that my computer will indeed run Crysis, tells me that all is right with the world.
- theycallmeninja, on 01/11/2009, -0/+2Pirates: Why so Sirius?
- JDex, on 01/11/2009, -2/+4Pirates vs Ninjas
Answer now obvious. Glad they're gonna make it home safe. - jeffvvisoft, on 01/12/2009, -0/+1The pirates real mission failed, the price or oil is still low.
- BossKey, on 01/11/2009, -2/+3Yeah! Let's unload a bunch of firepower into a supertanker filled with oil and possible pirate booby traps! That'll solve everything!
- fraggal, on 01/11/2009, -2/+3Why can't we shot all the pirates in the head when they leave the ship? Start doing that and they might stop taking ships at least the dead ones won't
- sporg, on 01/11/2009, -0/+1Starting a fire fight with desperate pirates armed with AK47's hardly seems like a good idea to me. Besides these vessels travel through the waters of many different countries where laws on arms possession vary.
- version22l, on 01/12/2009, -0/+1having fire power on a ship with 2 million gallons of fuel can't be a good idea is it?
- heystoopid, on 01/12/2009, -0/+1Maybe they should not have pumped that evil oil contaminated bilge water in the 200 mile Somali Protected Fishing Zone Waters or run down with out stopping during the previous night that other Somali fishing dhow whilst cutting corners on using a nightly unmanned automated bridge navigation system .
You pays for what you get and get what you pays for . - diggkris, on 01/12/2009, -0/+1Sweet sweeet karma http://digg.com/world_news/Sweet_Sweet_Karma_Somal ...
- 2of8, on 01/11/2009, -0/+1Or before they do. The problem is not having any weaponry on board (not being allowed to)
- Danltn, on 01/12/2009, -0/+1Apostrophe fail.
- 2of8, on 01/11/2009, -0/+1What if it's a twenty dollar bill?
- mnocket, on 01/11/2009, -0/+1Then tell me, how do you feel about carjackers?
- 2of8, on 01/11/2009, -0/+1As far as I know, it's any-caliber weaponry on civilian vessels. Water cannons excluded =S
- rheaume, on 01/11/2009, -2/+2Who cares, give me more details about those 5 dead pieces of *****.
- GreenWolf21, on 01/11/2009, -3/+3Pirating information is stealing. How hypocritical of you to condemn someone else's immoral behavior and in the same breath justify your own.
- FormulaVette, on 01/11/2009, -5/+3ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
- akchrs, on 01/11/2009, -6/+4Tonight I'm gonna pour some of my 40oz out for my dead homie's.
- inactive, on 01/11/2009, -7/+2blukahhhh bluuøh.
- hackingtravel, on 01/11/2009, -7/+1All for people going home safe... but i'm still for the Pirates.
