He married the most disgusting, repulsive woman I have ever met and renewed a belief in a deity. He is currently miserable with his life.

This is an exceptional situation and does not usually happen in reality.
Most of the time, when you display weakness to pretty girls, they will not fall in love with you. You may be lucky enough to be friends but all that will mean is that you get to hear stories about their boyfriends.
Do not hurt yourself expecting to be saved, you'll only end up bleeding in a gutter somewhere and hauled off to a hospital with ugly old nurses who will take your money. This is the digger's curse.
It is obvious that this young man is not a digger but a luck dragon in human form.
