A person’s ability to perform techniques that require fine or complex motor skills (such as using a gun)

Even in extreme cases like this one, having a gun is one thing. Reaching for it and shooting with precision under stress?... not likely to happen. Remember, there is a predator-prey mentality going on here. And in such cases, fake compliancy is the way to go. It raises the attackers ego, drops their guards (since they have you where they want) and allow the effect of surprise to be on your side. Reaching for a gun, while someone threatens you with one isn't exactly "faking compliancy with a plan" to me..
I might agree with your position on gun controls and probably for the same reasons you are agains't it.. but in a case like this one, relying on a gun to defend yourself would be as useless as relying on your local police. Plus, weapons are only an extension of your body. Don,t know how to fight? A weapon will be like a gun in a 5 years old hands. - MindTrigger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24One fact most people aren't aware of is how hard it is to shoot a moving target with a handgun, especially if the shooter is inexperienced, nervous, and amped up on adrenaline. Even up close it is not easy to hit a someone who is dodging in front of you let alone if they are trying to get the gun out of your hand. It's probably safer to run, while juking side to side making yourself a target only a seasoned marksmen is going to take down, but that's not always possible if you are with others and you want to help them escape as well. Just realize that it's not that easy to hit you unless you make it easy by holding still.
The more incidents like this I hear about, the more it pounds into my head that if it becomes likely I am going to be shot, that I will be shot trying to kill the ***** holding the gun. Scared or not, I will die trying before I allowing myself to be executed.

It is kind of sad, though -- I live about 15 minutes away from NYC and I never go there since I'm too afraid to use NJ transit. There's shootings like this ALL the time in my neighorhood, and they're NEVER reported on/never get media coverage because it's just the "Black gangs having at it."

- catfish182, on 10/10/2007, -4/+14its nice to think that if you have a gun pointed to your head you will go chuck norris on the guy but everyone acts different in those situations so its not fair to look at a person and say "you could have tryed to stop it" Hell when i had a weapon pointed towards me i froze and didnt know what to do and then i thought i pissed myself (i found out later i was shot and it was blood not piss). I shot the guy and killed him right after that (this was during the first gulf war BTW) cause i was angry but the point is every person will act their own way and its not fair to that person to say "why didnt you fight" Some people are meant to fight for the ones that dont.
