Student leaves school after service dog's life threatened

disaboom.com — Tyler Hurd, 23, has left a teacher-training program in St. Cloud, Minnesota, after he says a student threatened to kill his service dog, Emmitt. Emmitt is trained to assist and protect Hurd during and after seizures, which occur weekly due to a childhood injury. The threat came from a Somali student who is a Muslim.

  • jeamic, on 05/26/2008, -0/+1I'm glad Tyler "won" in the end, but as a service dog user myself, I know it can be very challenging to have to take the issue on. It is a federal offense to impede a service animal that a disabled individual is working with, so I'm confused as to why Tyler left rather than having the police remove the student who was threatening his dog's safety.
