- MercuryOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The Storm Troopers were the coolest thing in Star Wars.
- cody50, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5nay, Darth Vader was the coolest. though storm troopers were a close second.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, 50 of em keep shooting at Han, and no one ever hits
- inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Wow, does this kind of thing get tiresome.
There were no real problems with any of the prequels beyond fan expectations. The problem was that fans expected Lucas to outdo his original films (unlikely, even for Lucas) and to basically do a remake of the original films (i.e., showing a quirky band of wise-cracking rebels fighting against a giant empire.) When the films failed to live up to the outlandishly high expectations, then the prequels were deemed a failure. When you strip away all the hype and fan ***** and high-minded critics looking down their noses at it, and just look at the movies for what they are, you might notice that they are pretty damn good just on their own. - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3
Blade Runner and Star Wars were great Sci-Fi because the visuals made it look ... if not real, at least somewhat believable.
Yep. And Lucas completely ***** that all up with the prequels. Even when they tried to get things to look similar to the original, to show the transition from Republic to Empire, they still ***** it up. Namely the X-wing prototype ship, the pre-Tie-Fighters, the stormtroopers having all that multicolored crap on them.
The artists working at ILM today can't hold a candle to the original team. They're a bunch of sycophants that do everything Emperor Lucas commands, even when he's dead wrong. - ericeman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Luke, you turned off your gardening computer! is anything wrong?"
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3James Bond?
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3
My view is that there's nothing wrong with the Star Wars franchise which couldn't be fixed by getting rid of Lucas. The goodness of the movies is inversely proportional to how much say he had in the making of them.
I thought KOTOR was more true to Star Wars than the prequels were. After KOTOR, the rape of my childhood by the prequels wasn't as devastating. - ihavebeenseen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4deep throat
- amatern, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'll have to say that Stormtroopers and Vader were, of course, most excellent. I liked how ... dirty everything looks in the original trilogy. No "Buck Rogers" super clean, everything is white and perfect - in the Star Wars trilogy, ships were beat up buckets of bolts, droids were rusty (and temperamental). Blade Runner and Star Wars were great Sci-Fi because the visuals made it look ... if not real, at least somewhat believable.
- Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Those shiny white boots are going to turn an ugly brown very fast. My high school band marched in the parade my freshman year (2001), with white uniforms and shoes. Unfortunately, there were so many horses in front of us that the streets were covered in excrement. It was a real pain trying to dodge it while staying in line.
- NoBullet2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Whoa i'm glad I saw this story. Now i'll actually go to the rose parade. I hope they do the fly over with stealth bombers again.

- AClayeJ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anyone know of a more popular movie ever made?! Didn't think so.
- Jovinian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1foolfromhell: That assumes they were shooting to hit: it makes much more sense when you remember the escape was staged to track the Falcon to the rebel base. It wouldn't have worked very well if they had killed the flight crew, would it now?
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Pirates of the Carribean? Nah, it made money, but isnt imprinted in the minds of almost everyone in the civilized world.
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@mandarin: At first I thought "coolness overload", then I realized the paradox: Shatner always rips off his shirt, and Vader has a chestplate. Also it'd feel wrong to have Vader on the hood of a car (though he'd be right at home in a law firm).

- pauleric, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What's a stormtrooper, you ask? here you go:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturmabteilung
Though why anyone in their right mind would want to dress up as one, I dunno. - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2
Why are all memorable quotes from Ep. 4 - 6?
Lawrence Kasdan was the screenwriter of 5 & 6, rather than Lucas. For ep 4, Lucas rewrote it like fifty times, and I think he had ten people helping him including Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg, Lucas' wife, and Joseph Campbell. - HMTKSteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One of the guys who writes for me is the (one of the) webmasters for the 501st. He posted the following about this -> http://hmtk.com/blog/index.php?/archives/229-Seymore-Man-Marching-in-Rose-Bowl-Parade-Star-Wars-Style!.html
- ldura9t, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pasadena is in Southern California, where it rarely rains, and never snows (well, maybe in the mountains).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Im jealous I am such a Star Wars nerd.
- r2builder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You vote for what? Who'se taking votes for anything?
Why? Shatner isn't affiliated with Star Wars - and is about 3 ft shorter than Vader. Plus, if hypothetically those points were invalid - who'd care if shatner was in the parade WEARING A MASK? Unless you've put a great deal of thought into your comment, don't bother.
Keep your votes to yourself. - Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6Evacuate?! In our moment of triumph?! I think not!
Why are all memorable quotes from Ep. 4 - 6?
Midichlorians, child actors, Lucas-written dialogue, comic-relief sidekicks & CGI FTL (and despite context, FTL doesn't mean Faster Than Light here). - mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I vote for William Shatner to to dress up as Darth Vader in the parade!
- davebg8r, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2The prequels were not good films, they were mediocre at best. Overuse of CGI, bad acting, poor choices for some of the roles, and extremely bad scripts, worse than the first 3. Did anyone feel or believe the love story between Anakin and Padme in the slightest? They overused the catch phrases to try and tie it in. I could go on but theres everyone knows they were subpar independent of the original 3.
- ldura9t, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0I go to school in Pasadena, just 2 blocks from the main parade route, but I'm on break, and won't be getting back until new years day, so I'll miss the parade.
Would have been interesting enough, but, I guess I'll try to catch it next year. Hopefully the stormtroopers will return? - Kenzan, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Goals for 2007:
* Become the Darth Vader understudy for the Darth Vader understudy, you know, in case the "real one" got sidelined.
* Hold hands and possibly even *kiss* with a member of the female species that isn't a Princess Leia Slave outfit cardboard cutout.
* Read a Book (Other than Star Wars)
* Get a Life. - xsecretfiles, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0What's a strom trooper?
are they like going to prevent the rain on the parade?
but isn't it snowing in NYC or Cal...or whatever this parade this place? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3The new movies and the altered old trilogy were made to be sold to this generation.
Getting rid of Lucas...? ...He OWNs! the "franchise". Wrote and Produced, that takes talent... who would they have replaced him with?
I sense great evil in this one. - verycool, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0Star Wars 3D Screensaver http://sharewareisland.com/application.aspx?fileid=27839
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -23/+3There's some Star Wars fans left? After Ep. I - III and the retrofitting of suckage into Ep. IV-VI?
Good to hear. Although the franchise doesn't deserve it.
My view is that there's nothing wrong with the Star Wars franchise which couldn't be fixed by getting rid of Lucas. The goodness of the movies is inversely proportional to how much say he had in the making of them.
