- typicalusername, on 11/15/2007, -6/+158I refer back to one of my favorite movies last year, Knocked Up. "What do you want me to do about it?" Heaven forbid I'd stick up for scum, but we're getting a little overboard with the whole "sex offender" thing. My buddy was seduced by a 16 year old girl who wanted a piece of ass, and now he's labeled as a sex offender. So, cut them all some slack.
- tehWyman, on 08/19/2009, -8/+109I remember a Digg article not too long ago, something about how to commit genocide.
First you give the certain group of people a different name than the "regular people."
Second you give them an identifying mark that they must wear in public to show that they are different.
Then you physically separate them from the general public.
*Finger across throat*
I know it's different because these people did something to "deserve" the status they received, but the similarities are a bit startling. If someone can find that article and post it as a reply to this comment, kudos. - doctorfungi, on 11/15/2007, -0/+73What about a bumper sticker. "Chris Hansen made me take a seat and all I got was this lousy bumper sticker".
- wishninja, on 11/15/2007, -4/+72Why the hell would they want that? That is just plain stupid, I am glad to say I no longer live in that retard state.
- Rooster99, on 11/15/2007, -1/+69The term 'sex offender' means absolutely nothing and is totally worthless these days. It was supposed to be a way to identify someone who has committed a horrible sex crime. It was supposed to be for the people who are violent rapists or pedophiles. Now that it includes people who were caught taking a wizz in public, the whole label is a waste of time. It is now just another grey area, as a sex offender could be some 17 year old dating a 16 year old, or it could be some guy who kidnapped a kid and sodomized him/her to death.
And by publicly marking them, they will almost definitely be killed or seriously hurt. Imaging being 17 years old and having to spend the rest of your life with a mark that just invites an ass-kicking! The chances of him seeing his 40th birthday are pretty slim in my mind. I wouldnt have so much of a problem if they only gave them to the really violent, extreme cases, but this will just cause more violence and more hate. - echostudios, on 11/15/2007, -5/+72It is so comparable to the star of David on Jews it makes me sick. We treat sex offenders in this country like they can never be innocent ever again. The crime may be egregious, but how moral is it to use a vengeful punishment?
- whatever01, on 11/15/2007, -1/+59I'd seen a case where a 16 year old had sex with his 15 year old girl friend. Her dad turned him in. He did time for rape. When he got out, he married her. Several years later, happily married with a kid, no other problems on his record, he still gets death threats routinely because most people think he's out to rape their kid.
- Wacer, on 11/15/2007, -0/+54Making them register and do other court ordered stipulations is one thing. Making them mark their car like a beacon so they can be targets of attacks is another. I don't like them anymore than anyone else but if they are going to go this far, why don't they just shoot them.
Anyone remember the story on digg about the boy(17 years old) and girlfriend(16 years old) that took naked pictures of themselves and they where charged with child pornography, and had to register as sex offenders. Warning: Don't take naked pictures of yourself if your under 18 as this could result in you getting thrown in the same category and the pedos. - Suricou, on 11/15/2007, -2/+50A few US states still dont take account of the boarderline problem - they just declare everyone under the age of (usually) sixteen to be off-limits to sex, and then when a seventeen-year-old has sex with someone only one year younger, they get branded a sex-offender and pedophile for life.
- bightchee, on 11/14/2007, -0/+48No one would ever want to borrow the car with a green license plate.
- razrielle, on 11/15/2007, -0/+45Just because someones a sex offender dosnt mean they committed a horrendous sex crime. I've heard people urinating in public charged as sex offenders
- Wacer, on 11/15/2007, -0/+35A sex offender lends his car to his mother and she goes shopping. Ends up getting killed by a vigilante.
- redomelette, on 11/15/2007, -0/+35This is great! When all the pedos have their flashing yellow number plates the kids will know that the driver of every other car is perfectly safe. Free candy for all.
- jmpeagle, on 11/15/2007, -6/+38I wouldn't mind this for VIOLENT sex offenders but sex offenders in general is definitely overboard because that includes some drunk guy coming home from a frat party publicly urinating.
Rapists and Pedophiles (not teenagers but pre-pubescents) I would have no problem branding in this way but it should be limited to that group - directedition, on 11/15/2007, -0/+32We don't even have this for murderers....
- Fentekreel, on 11/15/2007, -0/+26I guess we now need some license plates for flame bait too...
- pavvy, on 11/14/2007, -0/+22hopefully this doesnt give me and my "luv2rap" license plate a bad name...
- declan89, on 11/15/2007, -4/+26Honk if you love kids!... A lot
- allisonaxe, on 11/15/2007, -5/+27first they came for the child molestors, but I didn't stand up because I wasn't a child molestor.
then they came for the date rapists, but then I didn't stand up, because I wasn't a date rapist.
then they came for me, because I was gay, but there was nobody left to speak for me.
it wasn't that long ago that consensual sex between two same-gendered adults in the privacy of their own home was illegal, and there's plenty of other really backwards sex laws still on the books. I've read stories of shopkeepers being arrested for selling a dildo. while I don't think rape is an admirable quality in someone, I really think, if we're going to let them out of prison, they should be treated the same way as anyone else.
and don't forget: Hitler put gays in the concentration camps too. - j0hnc0ry, on 11/15/2007, -0/+22This is ridiculous. My buddy was charged with statutory rape in college for having sex with his girlfriend of 2 years. He was 18, she was 17. They were both students at the time. He had to be listed on the Tennessee Sex offender registry where any one could look up online and see. His record was finally expunged a couple of years ago, but imagine if he had a sex offender license plate similar to this for having consensual sex with his girlfriend until they cleared his name.
- Harboggles, on 11/15/2007, -11/+30Thats ridiculous. Sex offenders are terrible people and in most cases I would never have them in public with their gonads intact. (Especially for multiple offenses)
That having been said, it's dangerous to have their licence plates display convict. People will give preferential treatment to others, he will never be able to merge in traffic or anything else. The people in cars who will never see that car again don't need to know he's a sex offender. The people in his community are the ones who need to know. - Suricou, on 11/15/2007, -0/+19Don't forget the vandalism - having the Plate will likely mean having to replace the windscreen every week and tires every month as the local community tries to drive out the owner.
- sirbeta, on 11/15/2007, -0/+19The term "Sex Offender" is so absurdly broad, so much so that I feel sorry for the people who will now have their cars vandalized, have death threats left on their windshield, and the other absurdities that come from hanging signs over people's heads that will provoke a negative reaction, all from some vigilante "good samaritan" that doesn't realize the guy didn't beat women and rape them, that he got drunk one night and relieved himself in a public place late at night, or, the person who was 16-17 year old at the time was convicted for producing child pornography, because they took pictures of themselves and stored them on their computer. I feel no remorse for those who deserve it. But they need to get the definition right if they're going to go to these extremes.
- danasghar, on 11/15/2007, -0/+19Hell there was an article on digg a few weeks ago that had two 16 year olds in trouble for sending each other sex pics they took privately and emailed to each other. Im all for giving this to the real creeps who go after 14 years olds and such, but not to the 18 year old senior with the 17 year old junior girlfriends parents who decide to bust him. Something has to be done about the law first.
- wedgemartin, on 11/15/2007, -0/+19I have a small child, and I worry about sexual predators like every other parent, but I think these guys are done an injustice. Even the hardcore ones seem like they're getting a bad deal. They're sick, people. Get them some therapy and some medical attention. Don't release them to the public, only to put a giant neon sign over their houses so all the nearby rednecks can set their lawns on fire and beat their asses whenever they show their face at the local grocery store. As parents too, we can take intelligent precautions to avoid having bad things happen to our kids. It's common sense. For this very reason, I don't live near any catholic churches.
- wedgemartin, on 11/14/2007, -0/+18WASNTME. HEWASHOT. LOOKD18.
- batshitcrazy, on 11/15/2007, -6/+24it's not rape, it's surprise sex!
there's nothing funny about rape. unless you're raping a clown! - batshitcrazy, on 11/15/2007, -5/+23what's blue and makes girls cry? me in my blue rape suit!
- Zamboni33, on 11/15/2007, -3/+21"You know the Nazis had pieces of flare that they made the Jews wear" - Office Space
Sex offenders are not related to Jews in any way though... Just a comment that I felt kind of fit - johndi, on 11/15/2007, -1/+18Sex offenders will start walking, ride the bus, or move out of state. This won't solve a thing, but could easily make things worse.
- HappyEngineer, on 11/15/2007, -0/+17I saw a documentary about how a new law was passed which said that sex offenders cannot live within a certain number of miles of a bunch of different landmarks. The result was that the number of sex offenders who registered dropped by half. The rest had to move into rural areas and commute much longer distances to work if they could even get work. Many were just unemployed due to the difficulty of getting jobs with this star of david on their back.
This does not help society. The person in charge of local registration said that she would much prefer to know where they were. Having such a heavy handed law just drove them underground and destroyed any chances of being a good citizen for the rest.
Remember, many sex offenders are not bad people. Having oral sex or gay sex (in some states), having sex with some 17 year old jail bait, taking pictures of yourself naked if you are underage, having sex with a 16 year old if you are 17 years old (in some states), etc. These are all things that can get you labelled as a sex offender for life. It's heavy handed brainless *****. - whackaxe, on 11/15/2007, -0/+16as much as I hate sex offenders thats jut asking for lynching
- AbsurdParadox, on 11/15/2007, -0/+16Haven't you heard? Sex is the new murder.
- jaewon223, on 11/15/2007, -0/+15this is becoming a slippery slope, what next? drug dealers? and then what?
- wastedyouth02, on 11/15/2007, -0/+15If you for some reason dont think this is common that stuff happens all the time, i was so close to being registered as a sex offender and being charged with a felony in child pornography that its not even funny and even tho i only got a year of probation (thank god) its still ***** up my life completely and my family's.....my crime i helped a friend post naked pictures of my frined (17 at the time) and his exgirlfriendo n the internet(also17 at the time)
- dinostabOMG, on 11/15/2007, -0/+15And look how well that's worked out.
- gryphonauto, on 11/15/2007, -3/+17It should be hot magenta/pink!
Sex laws in the US need to be refined. If a 25 year old man rapes a 10 year old girl, they deserve to be shot in my opinion, but a 18 & 17 year old having consensual sex . . . I don't think that falls under the same moral category. - allisonaxe, on 11/15/2007, -0/+14or, they could stop registering, or steal cars, or... the list goes on. this kind of treatment doesn't make situations better, just gives the dangerous ones more reason to avoid doing things the legal way.
- Logicexe, on 11/14/2007, -0/+14You don't have a problem with that? You don't have a problem with the fact that an overzealous judge can effectively ruin a kid's life for having sex with someone a year younger than him?
I'm all for going after men who prey on teenagers or children, but somewhere along the way to an effective policy we took a wrong turn. - dsanonline, on 11/15/2007, -0/+14Alright... this whole 'sex offender' thing is starting to get out of control. We, as a society, need to draw the line somewhere. In my honest opinion, these sex offender laws need to be completely re-written. And this new proposed law... well to those of you who thought of it... you should be shot. Just send each sex offender a gun and a bullet because all you're going to do is make them a target. In fact, doing this... you're already signing their death warrant.
I have had enough of this 'for the children' *****. This is growing beyond insane. 'Sex Offender' is a special brand for someone who commits a horrible sexual act (IE: raping a 3yr old) and not for stupid ***** ***** like a guy who tried to ***** a bike or a seventeen-year-old having sex with a sixteen-year-old. I am growing so ***** tired of this country and it's stupid people. For Christs sake. Die in a ***** fire, please! - ohnocommies, on 11/15/2007, -0/+13State of Ohio, Nathaniel Hawthorne wants a word with you.
- mbrouwer, on 11/15/2007, -0/+13Scarlet Letter anybody?
- NikoKun, on 11/15/2007, -1/+14Sex offenders are bad... but wouldn't this be... overkill?
Especially if they served their time and went through therapy and treatment, they still have to suffer through even more ***** for the rest of their life? - CiXeL, on 11/15/2007, -0/+12if we continue to press the sex offenders at some point they will organize and create their own political lobby.
you push people far enough and they revolt. - inactive, on 11/15/2007, -0/+12would take one murder for that system to be thrown out. It wouldn't take long for a murder to happen either...
- icefairy17, on 11/15/2007, -0/+12And... what's to stop them from borrowing someone else's car?
Horribly stupid idea. - louiedog, on 11/14/2007, -0/+12What do you mean it seems far fetched? If someone get charged 3 times federal REQUIREMENTS say they join the registry. Let's go through this logically. Guy urinates in public, he gets is charged with indecent exposure. The article makes it clear that this hapens. Guy does this three times in two years. He is REQUIRED to be added to this list. Get off your crusade. Has it happened? Maybe, but probably not. Will it happen? Maybe. Can it happen? Absolutely, 100% yes. That's a concern for me.
You're the one coming off desperate and pathetic. People can see that, that's why you're getting dugg down. I think we can all agree that there isn't a widespread problem of public pissers on sex offenders lists. If you expressed your ideas and opinions in a better way people might not digg you down so quickly. - andshewas, on 11/15/2007, -0/+12Well here ya go...it's a start. I'd find more, but I'm at work.

To summarize: "Legislators this year will consider making public urination a crime in New Hampshire's lawbooks.
Under current law, police departments around the state prosecute public urination using a patchwork of local ordinances and state statutes, among them the charge of indecent exposure, which is considered a sex crime. " - JonForTheWin, on 11/15/2007, -1/+13Kazak make great progress in recent years. Women can now ride bicycle without prosecutions, and homosexuals no longer have to wear blue hats.
- louiedog, on 11/15/2007, -0/+12"Under current law, police departments around the state prosecute public urination using a patchwork of local ordinances and state statutes, among them the charge of indecent exposure, which is considered a sex crime."
"Under the federal requirements, he said, people convicted of indecent exposure twice in three years would be required to join the sex offender registry."

The article doesn't list anyone this has specifically happened to, but it doesn't seem so far fetched, does it? -
