- ChazPSE, on 12/02/2007, -6/+180I didn't think sperm donors got screwed in the process of donating.
- inactive, on 12/02/2007, -8/+160You've got to be kidding...women should not be allowed to be judges...neither should men...I'm all for feral cats or some kind of chimpanzee they would certainly do a better job of interpreting the law than the ***** we have now
- RyeBrye, on 12/02/2007, -4/+145The reason he was found liable was because the dude stayed in contact, had his name on the birth certificate, and sent the kid presents and crap with cards signed "Daddy."
All I can say is those two dykes who used his sperm to have kids found a creative way to sodomize the poor guy. - Napoleone, on 12/02/2007, -3/+116Why is an 18 year old being referred to as a child? If forming a "patriarchal bond" with a kid now makes men liable for child support, a lot of single mothers are going to find it increasingly harder to get hitched.
- aman78, on 12/02/2007, -25/+112This is effing ridiculous!
- WasabiBomb, on 12/02/2007, -9/+63Agreed. Normally, this kind of story would get a rise of outraged indignation out of me... but the guy pretty much did everything he could to ensure that he was going to have to pay child support. Basically, he was a dumbass, and now he's got to pay the dumbass tax.
- captinherb, on 12/02/2007, -12/+64Not as much as it seems. They didn't put anything into writing about him making a donation. His name is on the birth certificate and he sent cards, gifts and money signed "Dad". If he had something in writing it probably wouldn't have been an issue.
- Oomsoup, on 12/02/2007, -9/+59He should have had something in writing - or no contact at all at the very least. His name is on the birth certificate and he sent gifts and signed them "Dad" for goodness sakes.
- inactive, on 12/02/2007, -19/+61Thats *****, what if a woman is pregnate and the man wants an abortion, and she doesn't, should he have to pay child support? What about a mans right to choose
- toastgodsupreme, on 12/02/2007, -9/+51People are going to Digg this up without reading. If they would read the article, they'll know that he screwed himself. He put himself in the child's life. Where as a traditional sperm donor would have not even known the child, let alone the recipient.
He brought it on himself. The lady is a bitch for surprising him with the child support, but he's a tard for putting himself in that position. - MaTT2011, on 12/02/2007, -6/+45Men dont have rights in America. Duh.
Now hand over your wallet to the nearest vagina you stupid meathead. - pilot3033, on 12/02/2007, -1/+37I'm reminded of a Chappelle's Show skit advertising legal documents to be signed before, during, and after sex.
What the ***** have we come to where something like that is probably a good idea? - inactive, on 12/02/2007, -5/+39Ya but come on this woman is nominated for biggest douche in the universe for taking advantage of him...
- Icupnimpn2, on 12/02/2007, -6/+40Yes, this is not quite as outrageous as the Digg headline makes it sound. It's not like he's had no relationship with the child. Nothing was on paper, and it wasn't through an anonymous channel like a sperm bank.
- zachshmack, on 12/02/2007, -0/+33Thank god you can't knock up a kleenex.
- zombiedepot, on 12/02/2007, -3/+30Rights are so 1999.
- Murdats, on 12/02/2007, -6/+32but he is male, he owes them money for that.
- HereticChick, on 12/02/2007, -2/+25Man, that is AWFUL! What has the judicial system come to? As a woman, I can honestly say, men are getting screwed by the legal system. Guys, I'm there for you!
- doctordbx, on 12/02/2007, -8/+31Yeah this is definitely one to make sure you RTFA.
Normally I'm all for men's rights, but this dude set himself up big time with his actions.
If you're going to call yourself 'dad' expect to get hit for support, that's all I can say. - ericgungon, on 12/02/2007, -3/+24the law is the law, but the mother is still a bitch for doing this to that guy.
- PaulOwen, on 12/02/2007, -3/+23This will quickly put a stop to
a) Melville community's sperm donor project
b) Any show of kindness to unrelated children in case your actions are later deemed "paternalistic" by a gold diggin' single mother - bigj480, on 12/02/2007, -5/+23 I disagree. The mother knew when she was inseminated that the donor would probably not be involved in the child's life and that the donor owes nothing to them. However, the guy is nice and did want to have some involvement and is being punished for it. This will only insure that donors hide from their biological children and refuse to have any part in their life. Is that what you want? Can't be a half dad? What would he have been if he refused to be a part of her life? Better off, that's what, and that is wrong.
- thespudmall, on 12/02/2007, -18/+36Rise up and claim your rights!
http://news.mensactivism.org/ - thatguy, on 12/02/2007, -3/+21The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
- Snappysnap, on 12/02/2007, -3/+21Those who find tis hard to believe have clearly never spent any time in a family court in just about any Western democracy. Fairness. Justice? Rights? Fathers can't expect any of those in a family court. The courts exist to disempower men and transfer wealth from women to men. And they do it very well.
- TheKrillr, on 12/02/2007, -1/+19Or we could adopt Google's technology and do PigeonPenal, a penal system where pigeons are the judge, jury, and executioner!
- SOhp101, on 12/02/2007, -5/+22Yeah, aside from the fact that this woman already has a life partner and probably raised the child just between themselves. Now they're nailing a guy with a lawsuit just because he was being nice and sent the kid some gifts.
Way to make people more wary of donating sperm/eggs to same sex couples, douchebags. - inactive, on 12/02/2007, -0/+16Wow...so, shouldn't the other "mother" have her parental rights taken away? I mean, apparently, this kid gets 3 parents *in the eyes of the law*..perhaps he should seek alimony because a "bond" of this or that sort was made.
- Jasonstech, on 12/02/2007, -1/+16The best part of the article is how the judge wouldn’t allow a paternity test because it could emotionally harm the child. UM Child? I thought 18 years old a legal adult. Make what you will of this case but the judge sound like a raving bitch. I'd figure the 18 year old to tell the judge "How dare you" to decide what may or may not be right emotionally for a legal adult.
- SOhp101, on 12/02/2007, -0/+15Mononuclear, I agree, what the guy did was dumb when he signed the cards 'Dad,' but it's not like the kid was raised in a single parent household.
The ruling is technically correct, but this will have a major negative effect on anyone who was on the fence about donating their sperm/eggs to a gay couple. These two women are doing a major disservice to all homosexuals in the US. - hangman16, on 12/02/2007, -1/+16Agreed. Blame should be on these bitches who are taking advantage of a man who obviously helped them out of generosity. They supported the kid for 18 years - why do they suddenly need child support now?
- Oomsoup, on 12/02/2007, -1/+15I'll agree with that *if* everything is how he tells it. Then the lady is a jerk and I feel bad for the guy. There might be more to the story though since the judge made the decision to have him pay child support.
- inactive, on 12/02/2007, -5/+19Please explain to me how a child with two mommies gets child support from the sperm donor? Can the two parents not support the child?
- sparkmonkeyz, on 12/02/2007, -2/+16They are saying he owes for all the child support he "missed". If this goes through, he will either have to go back and pay all the child support he owes, or until she remarried if ever, or he goes to jail. I've seen this happen before, but it wasn't with a donor, that is just f*d up.
- inactive, on 12/02/2007, -3/+14@crzdmn
If you think birthday cards and 7 phone calls over 18 years makes a father, i pity your children. - diargasm, on 12/02/2007, -2/+13What a bitch (the "mother"), screwing with somebody like that.
- Chompy, on 12/02/2007, -2/+13@p0s3r: "How about we don't donate sperm to two same-sex couples? That'll solve that problem."
This isn't a lesbian issue, this is a moneygrubbing bitch issue. Don't donate sperm to moneygrubbing bitches and you'll be OK. - inactive, on 12/02/2007, -7/+17If this gets made public, no man in their right mind would donate sperm, especially to a lesbian couple. Can't you see how this ruling is far more damaging than helpful? It's ridiculous that this child deserves child support from the donor when the child has been with both gay parents her entire life.
- fanclerks, on 12/02/2007, -0/+10I think you meant to "transfer wealth from MEN to WOMEN"... not vice versa.
- jstone, on 12/02/2007, -3/+13How about an AI?
- MasterInsan0, on 12/02/2007, -3/+12Which is still wrong and terribly underhanded. That said, he was an idiot for connecting himself so closely to the kid. That's the point of being a sperm donor: anonymity.
- madmccoy, on 12/02/2007, -0/+9***** ruling, ***** mother, and ***** commenters who cry "but you didn't read the article111!"
I got a newsflash for you: the man has to pay child support based SOLELY ON the fact that "the man's interactions with the child over the years had a patriarchal nature."
A: what the ***** kind of ruling is that? So if I date a single mother for a few months and little Joey comes to look up to me as a father figure I suddenly have to start paying child support if the relationship with his mother doesn't work out?
B: The guy called the kid 7 times over 15 years. The earliest memory I even have of my child-hood was when I was six, and that's only because I climbed my father's reclining chair like a mountain goat before falling face-first into a nearby table. (Actually, that might explain why that's my earliest memory) What the ***** could you say over the course of 7 phone calls and a handful of birthday cards to make a kid that's never seen you face to face establish a "patriarchal" relationship? Hell, to this *DAY* I get birthday cards from relatives I've never met before in person; uncles, grandmothers, aunts, all people who exist in some distant nebulous vacuum in my head and whom I only think about *when* I receive a card from this people -- and not for a minute afterwards. I'm sure they think the same of me -- only reminded to send those cards when someone in passing mentions my name.
But apparently to the court system some cheap greeting cards and a few calls makes you a bonafide' parent. Great legal system. - seattle98104, on 12/02/2007, -16/+25I'm sorry, but this guy is on the birth certificate and has sent the kid cards and gifts signed "Dad" all throughout his life. Like the judge said, you can't act like a father and not be considered one.
Try reading the article next time. - bigj480, on 12/02/2007, -2/+11And women? If you're pro-choice this argument works against you. Plus the woman may claim to be on the pill or the condom may fail. Granted, condoms are pretty reliable and it is still partly the mans fault if he doesn't protect himself, regardless of what the woman says. However, this does not relieve her of any responsibility.
- pyronik, on 12/02/2007, -0/+8I agree that probably a lot of people didn't read. I also agree with the ruling to an extent. But what bothers me is that if he would of asked for any of the "rights" that goes a long with being a parent he would of been denied. Think if he asked for visitations rights, he would of been turned down because he was a sperm donor.
- modularsky, on 12/02/2007, -6/+14RTFA losers, the guy gave the kid money, phone calls, and even had his name on the kid's birth certificate. Granted, the woman's a douche for suing for child support, but you can't just decide to play dad for 18 years then piss off when the kid has to go to college.
Inevitably articles like this make people think the US is filled with activist judges. GUESS WHAT, even a judge who considers himself a "strict constitutionalist" is an ACTIVIST. Since when did people believe that it's possible to be divorced from your own views? It's as if we're still living in the age of cartesian dualism. - govsucks, on 12/02/2007, -1/+9Look fellas, just don't donate sperm. If two females want a child, let them make one all by themselves.
- brentinkc, on 12/02/2007, -0/+8I think you meant transfer wealth from men to women, but I agree with you
- VieRelative, on 12/02/2007, -2/+9@seattle98104
No, it's not that simple at all. But it's not really complicated either.
The mother had agreed to be financially responsible for the child but changed her mind 18 years later. The dad's only mistake was not putting it in writing. The mother is a double crossing b***.
What's really messed up here is that the dad had no reason to suspect that the court system would be so biased against him.
@nepawoods
This is what we get for having all primarily politicians. It's the same as with gay anti-gay senators/activists. Some politicians feel guilty for being chauvinist so they push for excessive blanket responsibilities by men enforced by law. The rest of them are whipped pussies. Ironically enough Hillary for president may actually begin to redress the situation. - diggduggjoe, on 12/02/2007, -1/+8Yes, I can imagine it. Women, realizing they will be on the hook, will be more careful about birth control and who they have sex with.
