- Kardde, on 06/29/2009, -0/+62"In October last year, al-Shabab ordered a 13-year-old girl to be stoned to death in public in the southern city of Kismayo.
She was accused of adultery after reporting she had been raped by three men."
Holy *****. - C4Strife, on 06/28/2009, -1/+49"He was a married man, which is why the court sentenced him to be stoned to death," he added, explaining that a rape conviction only incurs flogging.
-So if he was just some single guy that raped and brutalized that girl he'd just get lashed a few times and let go? That is a ***** disgusting hypocrisy. - skidork, on 06/29/2009, -3/+45Sometimes I'm just happy I'm not a married rapist in Somalia.
- BoneheadFarker, on 06/29/2009, -0/+21And how can you be so certain that the person was guilty? You can always release a falsely accused person from jail. You can't bring a falsely accused person back to life...
- clvngodess, on 06/29/2009, -0/+20I don't know what appalls me more, the actual crime or how the sentence of death for the crime was carried out. Also, this is the same group of, um, people, who stoned a little girl to death for being raped, aka, adultery. WTF?
Oh and let us not forget the public chop chop of the 4 thieves.
Seriously, humans make me misanthropic. - twiztidsinz, on 06/29/2009, -0/+16How is there justice when there's no trial? no conviction?
- sensor, on 06/29/2009, -1/+15"She wasn't wearing a burqa so we couldn't control ourselves."
- schrutefan, on 06/29/2009, -0/+14Let that be a lesson for all Somali men - get all your raping done before the wedding!
- Praystation, on 06/29/2009, -1/+15As much as I despise sickos which roam this world, the execution of this man is unjustifiable. What if he was framed? The same people who found him guilty also ordered a 13-year-old girl to be stoned to death in public in the southern city of Kismayo in October last year. We are not in the 8th century.. public executions are definitely inhumane and will only cause more harm than good.
- DrVic, on 06/29/2009, -4/+18I tried to get stoned to death this past weekend, was unsuccessful. Will try harder next time.
- BlackCow, on 06/29/2009, -0/+12If the woman was not murdered she would have been killed by them and the rapist would have been free.
- MAJORdorMo, on 06/29/2009, -0/+9Man, what is wrong with cultures like these? They haven't made a single cultural advancement in thousands of years. These places need to catchup to modern society already!

cough - 1hrSleep, on 06/29/2009, -2/+9Ya hear that? No, that's not the sound of a rock smashing some guy's skull. It's the sound of a culture that will refuses to make any progress.
- prem444, on 06/29/2009, -0/+7They also stoned a 13yr old girl to death for reporting that she got raped by 3 men. Do you want to recant your statement now?
I would be more than happy to stone a real rapist to death. But with these hardline jihadis, rules are meant to be bent. They are hypocrites and they do what they please, they define justice the way they want.
I feel for the normal people living in fear in that dreaded land. - catiecrafa, on 06/29/2009, -1/+8I like how most of these comments are how backwards the culture is for stoning people.
Because killing someone in front of a smaller audience in a little glass room is somehow more advanced?
I'm sorry, but for how "advanced" we Westerners think we are, we're all still a bunch of animals. - RSS14, on 06/29/2009, -2/+8***** you barbarian. All rational people are waiting for your kind to die out. It will happen one day, it's inevitable. You will destroy each other with your current mentalities.
- pissshivers, on 06/29/2009, -1/+7Oh, stoned with rocks, never mind then...
- zip000, on 06/29/2009, -0/+6It hasn't been thousands of years. Islamic countries were actually much more scientifically advanced than their western counterparts for a very long time. It wasn't until fairly recently that things started back sliding to the stone-age.
- bdigital24, on 06/29/2009, -0/+6Try actually reading the article some time
"Local resident Abdullahi Husein said most of the town's population turned out to watch the lynching, where gunmen banned cameras and mobile phones." - Frostek, on 06/29/2009, -0/+6Some people do, but they are generally outnumbered.
Perhaps your country should be wiped off the map too. It sounds barbaric, wherever it is... - bdigital24, on 06/29/2009, -0/+6Taking the life of a convicted killer who planned, plotted, and carried out a murder(s) is a tad more advanced than stoning a defenseless 13 year old girl to death because she was overpowered and raped by 3 men simultaneously, yes..... yes.... that is a tad more advanced. Weird huh?
- bobbi21, on 06/29/2009, -0/+5Do I dare even ask how the system encourages rape..
- Pxtl, on 06/29/2009, -0/+5While I'm anti-death-penalty, I think there's a little difference between lynching a man and meticulously pushing his case through dozens of courts and appeals processes.
- phillipjkang, on 06/29/2009, -2/+7more weight.
- Frostek, on 06/29/2009, -0/+5It would only stop re-offenders.
People are not generally deterred by death sentences. - PHiZiK, on 06/29/2009, -0/+5to answer your question C4Strife in Islam "rape" is punished by death regardless if the rapist is married or not. Adultery on the other hand is punished by death if the man or woman is married and punished by lashes if the man or woman is not married...adultery =! rape.
"if he was just some single guy that raped and brutalized that girl he'd just get lashed a few times and let go?"
no. he will be executed - Lefts, on 06/29/2009, -2/+7Hey, they got it backwards.
Good job Somalia! - oderdigg, on 06/29/2009, -1/+6I guess honesty isn't a value for these retards?
- careya, on 06/29/2009, -0/+4Well, if rape victims get stoned to death for 'adultery', then you probably cannot trust the crime statistics. Very few women come forward to complain if there is a high probability of them being condemned to death by the courts, or by their families for 'dishonor'.
- sponeil, on 06/29/2009, -0/+4CoD4 - That's the great thing about a lot of Christian faiths. Christ taught his followers to love their enemies and turn the other cheek, but the priests teach "Don't listen to Him, listen to me. His death saved you from your sins, so you don't have to worry about doing what He said."
Yes everyone, I know not all Christian faiths are like that. No need to beat that dead horse (again, and again, and again). - bobbi21, on 06/29/2009, -0/+4I cannot believe that people of a country would allow the mass genocide of another country because a few individuals of that country stoned a girl to death.
genocide > murder - Hetman, on 06/29/2009, -1/+5Besides America most western countries have banned capitol punishment. I agree it is barbaric and uncivilized. The sooner the states ban it the better.
- Whackly, on 06/29/2009, -0/+4Patrick Bateman. Geez.
- Pxtl, on 06/29/2009, -0/+4This is a popular misconception. We imagine that, since the West has become generally more progressive, that middle-eastern countries are just stuck in some ancient backwater. That they've never known the decency of liberal justice.
The culture is advancing just fine. In the other direction. - dalittle, on 06/29/2009, -0/+4yes, but as imperfect as they are, if you would rather be judged by who ever screams loudest in an angry mob, have at.
- BlackOculus, on 06/29/2009, -1/+5"Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction."
- Blaise Pascal - multiformat, on 06/29/2009, -0/+4Right you are. There is absolutely no difference between the criminal justice system in a democratic country and this one in Somalia run by Islamic militants. Say, next time some 14 yr. old kid steals some candy from the 7/11 lets cut off one of his hands and a foot. That will teach the little bastard. Or hey, if your 13yr old sister or cousin cries rape lets stone her to death because after all we all know she was asking for it. Or how about in a case like this we forgo the cops, lawyers and penal system and just band together and stone someone to death because we think we know what happened. It takes at least 10 years, often much more for someone to get to death row in the U.S. Lots of checks and balances and room for appeal for even the most hardened and vile of defendants. Not to say mistakes dont' happen, they do and western democratic legal systems and punishments are far from perfect but I would take it over this Somalia born justice any day.
- supermario182, on 06/29/2009, -2/+5Let ye without sin cast the first stone
- PHiZiK, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3just to clear some confusion and misunderstanding, in Islam "rape" is punished by death regardless if the rapist is married or not. Adultery on the other hand is punished by death if the man/woman is married and punished by lashes if the man/woman is not married...
- alexllanio, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3True.
- whatthefu, on 06/29/2009, -2/+5That doesn't even make sense. Historically speaking, the Western world has been heavily involved in cultures like these, especially within Africa. Many Africans were subject to all kinds of oppression by various different European governments, and plenty are still impoverished or hungry today. And while most are wary of psychotic Islamists, it's hard to blame the poor and uneducated for following a group that promises so much to them.
- piznut, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3If he hadn't murdered her, they probably would have stoned her to death for the crime of being raped.
- GREEDOnvrFIRED, on 06/29/2009, -1/+4Is it safe to assume the woman was stoned to death in a separate ceremony. I mean once you are raped your family will likely save their reputation with an "honor killing." So most rapes are essentially murder right?
- dalittle, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3What if he did not do it? Justice should only be found in a court of law.
- bobbi21, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3Seeing as this happened in Africa which has a pretty high rate of rape, I don't think that's the main reason, although it probably does contribute.
I would postulate that the more communal nature of Asia where dedication to family, city, and nation are a lot bigger than in North America, or even europe. If you respect the ppl around you that much more, you'll be less likely to commit crimes against them. - inactive, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3amen. The kind of person who would rape is the same kind of person who would kill someone for raping.
I'm just hoping they don't take the rest of us down with them. - DankBuddz, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3***** this world.
- ErrorF002, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3Dugg for a quote few will get.
- zip000, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3We're never going to ban it, I'm afraid. Most Americans just salivate over killing criminals. Some states are even trying to broaden the list of capital crimes.
I'm feeling the Oh, Canada vibe again. It comes around periodically whenever I'm confronted with what I backwards country I live in. -
