- cywar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+60" the five were in uniform, so police allowed them to come and go freely despite a town curfew"
Now don't that make ya feel safe?- MercedRocks, on 10/12/2007, -57/+16Wish the article mentioned specifics. If it was just a pack of smokes and a cold beer WTF, give em a break, the job of cleaning up all that destruction has to be a tough one.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/12/2007, -9/+57Yeah, drinkin' on the job. Good policy, especially for soldiers, police and anyone else enforcing their authority with firearms.
- MercedRocks, on 10/12/2007, -48/+3What, they don't get breaks?
- Anpheus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+64Yeah, they do get breaks. But those breaks don't allow them to steal.
- gyrfalcon, on 10/12/2007, -27/+4It's not like they were taking T.V.'s... Suppose they would get in trouble too if they ate a candy bar they found.
- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -21/+96They're not looting. They're just gathering supplies....... but if they're black, then they're looting.
- unibomber999, on 10/12/2007, -1/+97@MercedRocks
RTFA: "The 5 had come on their own and were not part of any official detachment"
They weren't doing any work. They were just there to loot. They're ***** criminals, lock 'em up. - pilot3033, on 10/12/2007, -11/+8unibomber (heh) beat me to it, bury.
- RossTizma, on 10/12/2007, -30/+12...awaiting blame Bush statement...
- Travisty2012, on 10/12/2007, -2/+63I think law enforcement personnel should face harsher punishment for identical crimes than normal people. They need to be held to a higher standard and punished more severely when they break the same laws they are trusted to enforce.

..followed by blame Clinton/Libruls statement... - Nerfdude, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24WTF is right, i'd make a beeline for a jewelry store or bank.
- ilyag, on 10/12/2007, -11/+34The difference between "looting" and "finding":

Whatever you can fit in several giant trash bags ... versus ... a loaf of bread and a drink.
Collecting a bunch of ***** that's not yours ... versus ... taking enough food to survive the day.
Yes. Looting versus finding. - collinong, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16@ilyag: there is a difference, and it wasn't race:
http://www.snopes.com/katrina/photos/looters.asp - soulshinejam, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Dude, this exact same thing was just on The Simpsons last night; except that they were firemen looting "burnt down" buildings.
- Cerialthriller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4did they find any epics? Maybe they didn't have enough DKP so their guild leader put them on probation.
- logost, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Sad thing is I wish this had not gone public. These people are now going to have issues with issurance weather it was the tornado or looting.
- williamdyer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Hey, what's wrong? What's good for Iraq is good enough for Amerika.
- ownon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If these guys got a buzz on it gives a whole new meaning to "Support Our Troops".
- PsychoticClown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ah, the values of Western civilization.
- USCSucks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0SEE THAT ALL YOU PEOPLE SAYING NEW ORLEANS WAS SO BAD WITH THE LOOTERS. HERE YOU HAVE SMALL TOWN AMERICA, AND THEY STILL HAVE LOOTING PROBLEMS.
OH WHILE YOU ARE AT IT, LETS NOT BUILD BACK THAT TOWN BECAUSE A TORNADO COULD HAPPEN AGAIN. IDIOTS
- Enlightenment, on 10/12/2007, -7/+36They have too much time on their hands, neeed to send those punks to IRAQ!!!
- pujolsthebeast, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Yeah, so they can get drunk. That's exactly what they DON'T need to do.
- tHePeOPle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Yeah really, what the ***** do they think this is, New Orleans or something?
- Cracken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Plenty of foreign booze and ciggs in Iraq.
Hmmm, I need to volunteer for the next rotation. :)
- FarhadA, on 10/12/2007, -12/+7Hey, do you remember Rumsfeld's comment about the looting in Iraq? This is the ultimate freedom, people do what they want! So give them the god given freedom the same way your country did in Iraq and stop complaining.
- Prysorra, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I have only one thing to say about the soldiers:
Dishonorable discharge.

- hittnrun, on 10/12/2007, -56/+6I want to see mugshots.
I'm guessing they were democrats.- HunterTV, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21You can tell that from mugshots? Oh right, profiling. :/
- Battleloser, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22There are democrats in Oklahoma?
- gyrfalcon, on 10/12/2007, -20/+2With all the Bush Suck, and save the planet tattoos it would be easy to pick them out :)
- fantasticFlan, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4Yes, Battleloser, there are Democrats everywhere.
- fsjonsey, on 10/12/2007, -18/+4Democrats are the cancer that is killing /a/merica.
- crapfactory, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6yes, and republicans are the gangrene
- averagegeek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@ Battleloser - this happened in Kansas, not Oklahoma, and even the Kansas Governor is a Democrat. (we're not all shallow minded straight-ticket voters here...)
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2fsjonsey is being buried.
crapfactory is being dugg.
And people say digg is non-partisan.
Disclaimer: I dugg them both - geoboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Whoever said the digg community is not biased? (or non-partisan, as you put it). I don't recall a lot of people ever saying that.
- DeFex, on 10/12/2007, -7/+28See how the story is largely ignored. next time try and use the word "apple" somehow
- UnFriendlyFire, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18You should have said Linux. Ex. Linux-based cop loot town, take kernal :)
- mrharvey518, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31I'm glad they were caught, throw them in jail. This same thing happened during Katrina, a handfull of NOPD cops were holed up in a hotel room filled to the brim with stolen good. Its sickening.
- republicker, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5Hey cops are alcohol addicted nicotine freaks too, you know.
- grooviekenn, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5send them to Iraq to police and soldier...
that should teach them a lesson or two. - williamdyer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@groovie
There is just as much chance they learned that in Iraq.
And just wait 'till all those "security contractors" come back here.
- GettinReal, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8Looting from people whose town has been destroyed.....Just think what these soldiers would do in another country? They should be shot. I
- Tenlow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Well if it makes you feel any better they probably would be shot in another country.
- torgos, on 10/12/2007, -10/+9dugg down. Not enough !'s in the title.
- pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7damn, that simpsons episode from sunday is eerily close to this. the voluteer firefighters looting burnt homes.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Glad to see I wasnt the only one that remembered that episode when I read about this.
- cielo23, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8They weren't "LOOTING", they were "FINDING" stuff.... :p
- dodger2020, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Any time - IN ANY COUNTRY - there is a disaster, you have the scum of society that will come out and prey on the misfortunes of others. It sucks but there are bad apples in every bunch.
- ManOfVirtues, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4This is true, but in any OTHER country those caught would be shot on sight. Thats how you keep order in a disaster situation.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You keep order during a disaster by threatening to shoot people dead on suspicion of looting?
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4True, but the scum of society aren't usually the ones tasked with looking out for the same society. THAT is the problem. Soldiers and police in most other countries are respected as being the cream of the crop, the best of society, doing their job for the good of their fellow citizens.
- TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Just out of curiousity why was the parent dugg down?
- xedd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"True, but the scum of society aren't usually the ones tasked with looking out for the same society. THAT is the problem. Soldiers and police in most other countries are respected as being the cream of the crop, the best of society, doing their job for the good of their fellow citizens."
My God. That has to be one of the most naïve statements I have heard in a long time.
(BTW, I agree that the statement SHOULD be true... And hopefully is true in many cases... But it simply is NOT true far too often. ) - mike17032, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"True, but the scum of society aren't usually the ones tasked with looking out for the same society. THAT is the problem. Soldiers and police in most other countries are respected as being the cream of the crop, the best of society, doing their job for the good of their fellow citizens."
Do you really belive your own *****? If so, you need to wake the ***** up kid.
Cops and Troops are just like any other people (because thats exactly what they are), there are always some bad ones. The fact is the US has some of the best cops and troops in the world, and while our system isnt perfect its far from corrupt.
Wanna see what corrupt cops are really like? Take a trip south of the border, that will shatter your little dream world real fast. You will get a crash course in what corruption really is, as oppsed to just a few bad apples. - tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I shouldn't have said 'most'. I should have said 'some'. I live in a country where the people who choose to become police are the people who want to benefit the community, rather than the power-hungry ones, and they are respected for it, not because they hold the power to arrest you. Yes, I truly believe that if we had a national crisis, our police would be the last ones to go looting.
There's always exceptions, of course. - jerbaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@cyber_akuma: No, I don't think threatening to shoot looters will help in keeping order in extreme circumstances. I think you should just do it rather than threatening.
- jimsf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I bet they were each wearing a pair of "Bad Idea" jeans

Soldiers working on a natural disaster crisis would not have weapons issued to them... They're not needed.- matthewmok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What if they needed to shoot somebody that was looting?
- MadMastaZ, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Their cops, shouldn't they be stealing donuts?
- Nerfdude, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6It looks like you should be stealing a remedial English textbook.

- Elephant789, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2What country, city? Please, next time you submit an article you leave more details.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Please tell me that was a joke...
Just how many tornado-ravaged cities have there been in the last few days? - Elephant789, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1I don't know. Good question, how many?
- Elephant789, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1Tornadoes are subsequent to the North American continent. I have read the article and it says it occured in the country of Kansas. That's where? I'm sorry if I offend the district of destruction.
Thanks.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Please tell me that was a joke...
- albatross5000, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I just don't trust Anyone that seeks out a job where you carry a gun. Also, like all the druggie punk asses in the town I grew up in are now cops in that town. Haha. No seriously.
- mike17032, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I dont think having police carry flowers would be very effective.
- colincornaby, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Thank god the tornado ravaged city will now have it's alcohol and cigarettes. I have no idea how the town's economy would ever recover if all their alcohol and cigarettes were stolen.
- chrisbarr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I read it as "...Sate officials said: 'WTF?!!!'"
- Lister169, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1It's such a fine line between looting and salvaging...
- williamdyer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No. No there isn't.
- faithhealer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0The liberals at CNN really do hate America, printing such lies about our heros.
- ChuckNorrisMan, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0Since these people are most likely African Americans, this is why it is getting so much press.

- UnFriendlyFire, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1This just occurred to me. I thought Kansas was a 'dry' state. How could they be looting alcohol?
- eean, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7There are no dry states...
- Salmoclarki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0no, but there are dry counties and Kiowa County was at one time...maybe still is?

Tonights the night that we got the truck
Were goin downtown gonna beat up drunks
Your turn to drive Ill bring the beer
Its the late, late shift no one to fear
And ride, ride how we ride
We ride, lowride - heresyforme, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Why this should surprise anyone...Armies have always looted and pillaged where they occupy. Make no difference if they're a product of the US or any other country or even if it's their own "people".
- davidkeithjones, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5Learn from Katrina,
Black = looting
White = looking for supplies.- catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7False, take your racism elsewhere.
As has already been posted. http://www.snopes.com/katrina/photos/looters.asp - Haapi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I dunno, @cat,
Your link to snopes supports his statement, doesn't it? - TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3umm if you read the link that YOU posted it claims that story to be true
- catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7False, take your racism elsewhere.
- cyranthus, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3oh give them a break, it was just cigarettes and alcohol.
- xDibblerx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Yeah, I guess I agree. They didn't find them going through people's homes looking for guns and jewelry. The smokes and beer are all write-offs anyway and as far as we know these guys may have been using their weekend passes to do a good deed. Now the off duty cop guy...he's guilty and should be stuck in a jail cell with murderers and drunk drivers. hehehe
- CogitatorX, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5These guys forgot Blackwater and Haliburtin are the only authorized looters and war/disaster profiteers.
- ronjohn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1YUP!!!
- crapfactory, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3don't forget dyncorp and their sex slaves... ahh, those old moral american companies saving the world for you fat cattle
- deathtom64, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1fa fa fa fa ***** the police!!
- rouslan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4This is what you get when you run out of soldiers due to the war in Iraq...I have heard they are encouraging prisoners to join the army.
- ronjohn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Some what true. The army has become more lieant on their convicted felon policy.
- rouslan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1What are you implying to me?
- JWarblerMadman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1If they give psych exams before strapping a gun to their belt, then they should start checking everybody else's answers against the answers these 5 guys gave. How do you pricks like profiling now?
- LooterMcBeer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4So they took smokes and beer......... As if they were going to be salvaged and resold especially after the rains we had last night all the remaining cigarettes are ruined now anyway. Id rather see someone loot food and items like that then them just go to waste. TV's stuff like that is another story but who gives a damn about the cigarettes. I guess i see why they are pissed about the beer though its cause they didnt think of it first.
- an0nymous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have a feeling that they were grabbing boxes from the back, not taking a pack of smokes and a six pack.
Anyone confirm that it was grand larceny?
- an0nymous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have a feeling that they were grabbing boxes from the back, not taking a pack of smokes and a six pack.
- ronjohn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0SO WHAT!!! NOT LIKE THEY STOLE FROM A CITIZEN OR HOME OR SOMETHING. I'd rather them steal it and use then some minor to buy them and use them and distribute to their minor friends.
- kanimara, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Just because people join the military or police forces, they are not automatically good people. Some lie cheat and steal just like some regular people lie cheat and steal.
