(For the record, I'm against using aborted babies for stem-cell research as I'm pro-life, but that aside...) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The only controversy over stem cells is who should pay for the research. Stem cell research is perfectly legal. You can experiment with them, you can bathe in them, you can mix them into your orange juice. But liberals -- always on the lookout for a free lunch -- want the government to finance the research.
Suppose they are right and stem cells turn out to be a miracle cure for a whole host of maladies. Suppose the drug companies make trillions. Will any of that research money be paid back to the government? Nope. If this research is going to be that crucial and that successful and that important to mankind (and there's not an ounce of proof that it will be) then corporations should be falling all over themselves to finance it and patent it themselves. But they aren't. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ethically, there is no difference between a woman selling her eggs and a man selling his sperm. HOWEVER nobody ever talks about the downside. Not only is the procedure painful, it is deadly. About 6,000 women have been permanently injured and around 200 have been killed. That's at last count.
- AriaStar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1A guy jerks off into a cup. Easy. Pleasurable. A woman donates and it requires shots, medications, and a very invasive, painful medical procedure.
But this article is on whether or not woman should be paid to supply eggs for a highly controversial area of mediccine - the research of stem cells.
