A civilian police officer shot him dead, and unfortunately the officer was also shot and killed. While his name isn't being released, it would appear his name is "suggestive", and he had converted to Islam. He was also upset about deployment, and the building he started his rampage in was a last stop for deploying soldiers for medical and dental checkups. Two other military personnel are in custody, but it is unclear if they were involved with the first shooter. There were reports of other shooters by eye witnesses but nothing has been confirmed otherwise.

Actually, this reminds me of another shooting that took place a few months after i got to Fort Hood. A disgruntled boyfriend opened fire on his army girlfriend, about 300yds from our PT formation. I was stationed on Camp Pendleton for 4 years and always wondered about the security, i guess it is good enough to stop an Oklahoma City style truck bomb from getting in but that is about it.
