- tehbored, on 10/12/2007, -5/+69Al Sharpton a bigot?! Never!
/sarcasm - FrankieB078, on 10/12/2007, -4/+65Accused? He IS a bigot.
- nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -13/+62"seriously black people, find a new spokes person he just makes you look bad where is a MLK jr. when ya need one"
I nominate Tiger Woods . . . he seems like a nice guy. He can also hit a ball really far. - ganjadude4391, on 10/12/2007, -16/+63Its time for sharpton to kiss someone elses ass!!!
about time
seriously black people, find a new spokes person he just makes you look bad where is a MLK jr. when ya need one - Salgat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+37Whats funny is Forgiveness is the focal point of Christianity and Jesus' teachings yet Imus who begged for forgiveness was given none from Sharpton. Hes a hypocrite who actively seeks ways to push his racist agenda.
- Luigi239, on 10/12/2007, -6/+41Whats even more interesting is that Sharpton was on CNN. He tried to spin the issue back on Romney, saying that he is a biggot, and that he should be questioned as to why he was part of the Morman church, which at one point, didnt accept blacks. Note that blacks have been freely alowed into the Morman Church since at least 1975. Al Sharpron continuously refused to answer the interviewer, Paula Zaun's questions, and just went back to the point that he is racist because he belongs to a church that at one point did not allow blacks.
Al Sharpton is a hypocritte. It is ok when he discriminates somebody for religion, race, ext. But, when a white person does something, or at least calls him out on it, he throws a big fit. Props to Mitt Romney for calling Sharpton out on the fool that he really is. - dustyshadow, on 10/12/2007, -5/+36"Sharpton represents all black people as much as Bill O'Reilly represents all white people. Jackass"
I didn't like the statement either but you have to admit that Sharpton has done nothing but hurt the black community of America and like it or not but many white (or non-black) Americans do feel that he represents a large portion of Black Americans. It's time for someone to stand up to him and tell him to STFU. The problem is that if a white person does this, he/she will be immediately labeled as a racist and then forced to apologize. - InfamousAtheist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31OK children,
I lived in Utah, governed by Mormons, for eight years... which I believe strongly contributed to my atheism. Nobody's EVER accused me of being a fan of Mormons. I realize some of their beliefs are strange and that FUD probably makes y'all think they're satanists or in a cult or whatever, as illustrated by:
@mtrip: "A mormon, people. I didn't even know they were allowed to run for office."
@aeonoftime: "Hey I figure he is doing us all a favour mormons sorry morons should never be in the White House. They will force us all to join their cult."
I've got news for you guys: I know Mormons who are some of the nicest, most genuine people I've ever met. Do I disagree with their choice of faith? Yes. Am I completely skeptical about the origins of their religion? Check.
Do I bring myself down to the level of an ***** like Al Sharpton by discriminating them because I disagree with them? NO.
Seriously... you guys are every bit as bad as Sharpton. Remember who's telling you this: an atheist, who lived under draconian Mormon-run government for almost a decade.
Please stop. You're embarrassing yourselves. - rkettner, on 10/12/2007, -5/+32Now, if only there was someone to settle these religious disputes... that was also a racist...
Theoretically, they could then use each other as never-ending stepping stones to great fame... - anaesthetica, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31@rkettner
Al Sharpton can fulfill both roles of religious bigotry and racism:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Sharpton#Accusations_of_racism.2C_homophobia.2C_and_bigotry
He can just be one big feedback loop on his own quotes. - kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31Now if only he could be accused of bigotry as loudly as he jumped all over Imus and Richards.
- Conwaysb0718, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27geeee, i dont know... maybe because he is a son of a bitch who wont let anyone else say what they think without demanding an apology or job termination....
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -8/+31@ ganjadude
I kinda like how you addressed "black people." Like every black person in the world is reading these comments right now to see what you have to say. But I do agree that Sharpton tries to represent all black people, when every black person I know hates him. And those people (shifty eyes... the blacks) need to give him ***** more publically. I'd do it, but who cares if a white 17 year old hates Sharpton, that's to be expected. - screensnot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23I demand that Al be fired. Oh wait, he doesn't actually have a job, does he?
- PunkRampant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22I demand Al Sharpton's apology and resignation from... uh... the media spotlight.
- barktwiggs, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25More accurately, blacks in general were not allowed to hold lay (unpaid) priesthood authority in the LDS church until 1978. Blacks have had membership in the church since the beginning around 1832. For further research I recommend: http://www.blacklds.org/mormon/history.html
- jasonj75, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21As a Mormon lemme put all my cards on the table about the race thing....The ban on blacks and the priesthood was wrong...PERIOD...Attempts to justify it using the scriptures was and is shameful...Maybe some day the Big guy will pull me aside and tell me it all really was his idea, but until that happens I chalk it up to a mistake a leader made that became institutionalized and took time to root out. Frankly, I would welcome more public discourse on race and the church, but Sharpton has no credibility and Romney doesn't speak for or represent little ol me, much less the entire the church.
Anyway, what Sharpton said was par for the course for a seasoned bigot. I don't need or want an apology from the guy. I had no respect for him before, obviously don't now, and I just wish he would go away. On the other hand though, I hope Romney doesn't back down, don't swing for the race baiting, just show Sharpton for what he is and call it a day. - Piglith, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22Yes he is.
- Jessejb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I was just going to say that.
But something relevant... He was "ordained" minister when he was NINE YEARS OLD.
When he was FORTY he was GIVEN an HONORARY degree.
Hack. - Daunting, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19When the ***** did Al Sharpton start representing black people. I don't remember the last time I looked towards Al Sharpton for guidance or courage. Every time I see him he's trying to get in another person's pocket or trying to steal some air time from them. I think many people see Al Sharpton as the 711 quick stop for making black people love them again. He's not. Black people aren't some sectioned off corner of society that could be easily tamed by one person. Stop giving this man so much credence.
- Carteelith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Al Sharpton still needs to apologize to the Duke players, so whatever happens to him is built up bad karma.
- novacodova, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Al Sharpton should be fired or should resign from all of his organizations and be removed from his radio show because of his intolerance of others beliefs... Mr. Sharpton has shown by his comments that he is a racist, a bigot, and intolerant of others. We cannot stand for this I call for all Mormans to protest outside of his office. I call for advertisers to pull there dollars away from his radio show to force him to be removed for such discriminatory outlets.
Digg this up if you think he should be immediately removed from all of his organizations. - PhantomBantam, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Because he is on a high horse. And horses under the influence make stupid decisions.
- garryw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16"As for the one (black person) running for office, those who really believe in God will defeat him anyways, so don't worry about that; that's a temporary situation," Romney said Monday during a debate with other GOP candidates.
hmm... can you imagine how such a statement would backlash if Romney said that. But it's ok if Al says it against mormons. - ucbrave92, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16yeah, i would like to try and organize a group of white people to rally and protest to get al sharpton fired and taken off the air. oh, wait, can't do that because it would be considered racists. see the twisted logic.
people like al sharpton are what is holding the black community back. the message spewing from his mouth does nothing but divide, not bring together. you want equal rights well stop referring to yourself and your community as anything other than AMERICANS. everyone living in the USA is an american and deserves to be treated the exact same way. stop trying to get special laws passed to make employees hire people of a specific race, rather let them hire the most qualified. stop setting up race based scholarships rather give the scholarship to the student who has worked the hardest. stop asking for special treatment and separating us.
the only day racism will ever cease to exist, is when people stop trying to use it to their advantage. then it becomes a low priority topic and eventually goes away. i don't know if you checked a calendar lately but its 2007 not 1963. please al, let the race card go already. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Isn't Tiger Woods Asian? I heard he is 1/4 Japanese and 1/4 Thai.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I think you mean unrelated news. Why the ***** does everything come back to atheism?!
- mjhamilton, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16By his same logic I could say “As for the one -black guy- running for office, those who really -work for a living- will defeat him anyway, so don’t worry, that’s a temporary situation.”
Now what I just said is insensitive, ignorant, and completely untrue but it follows the same logical fallacy that Sharpton uses. If any one had said what I just said there would be a bigger outcry than the Imus situation. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Where's the outrage and all the calling for his public stoning?
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -2/+12I know sarcasm is a little harder to detect without the vocal tonation, but this "/sarcasm" thing just kills the sarcasm...
- Ajajadude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10The fact that he's "stood up" and acted as the voice of the black community that people associate him as being the "spokesperson" for them.
It also doesn't help to change that perception when no other prominent members of the black community stand up to him and tell him to shut the hell up. Publicly. - SGT.SHIZZO, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10That fool hasn't worked a day in his life. You can tell by his attitude and his lard ass.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Because he admitted he actually doesn't think what he said, and he won't apologize or admit mistake. He is just trying to spin his words and weasel his way out as usual. He would have a lot more supporters if he was a little more honest and apologetic when he makes mistakes.
He could learn a lot from Imus. - hagingtree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Really? Because I could have sworn Sharpton had said Mormon's do not worship a real god, therefore, my response is clarifying the Reverends misconception. I feel that is directly related to this article.
Thanks for the input though. - sfpfc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Digg me up if you think Sharpton is racist
nuts i posted wrong spot - NSResponder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9He's not merely a bigot. He's a PROFESSIONAL racist.
-jcr - endtime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"I do know many LDS church members and even consider some of them friends. They're sickeningly nice... to the point that they gloss the real world over with cheesy, artificial happiness."
I have spent time in Utah and knew several Mormons like that. However, I've also met Mormons who were much more genuine and down-to-earth about day-to-day stuff; very nice the majority of the time, but would tell it like it is when needed...I'm not defending weird religious beliefs either, and I'm sure the person I'm quoting already knows this, but not all Mormons are completely fake like that. - ReikiMaster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10"his bigotry towards non Christians is not unusual in this country."
I don't know if you were implying that Mormons aren't Christians or not. But, just to clear the air...Mormons are Christians. - Beatmiser, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Maybe someday someone will accuse Al Sharpton of being relevant too...
- Cattttt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Rev. Sharpton is more than a bigot. He is a hate-monger, a riot-inciter, a glib liar, and an opportunist. Also, he has blood on his hands. He is a sorry excuse for a human being. It appalls me that people are fooled into thinking he is anything good in any way. I could pick 10 guys at random off the street and have huge odds that all 10 of them would be superior to Rev. Sharpton in thought, word, and deed.
- jsayreallen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Blacks have always been accepted into the church. It's a little known fact that Joseph Smith Sr (unofficially) adopted a black man as his 'son'. Thus, Joseph Smith had a black man for a brother. He was an advocate for social reform at a time when only a few Abolitionists supported the freedom of slaves.
In the 1970's it became official that all male members of the church could hold the "priesthood", but it is also fact that Joseph Smith himself ordained at least two black men to the priesthood. - mikes1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7AFAIK, it started at a national level with the Tawana Brawley case, where Al exhibited his racism by accusing every white around with rape. Despite clear evidence of a hoax, Al continued to try to incite racial tensions around this case. Al Sharpton was later found guilty of defamation because of his actions: http://eightiesclub.tripod.com/id315.htm http://www.courttv.com/archive/legaldocs/newsmakers/tawana/
Al has also incited violence (murder and arson) against Jews.
http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=2411 - hagingtree, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Let me clear up any misconception.
I am a Mormon. I read and believe the King James version of the Bible is Holy Scripture. I believe Jesus Christ lived and died for the sins of mankind. (as according to the Bible) The gospel and tenets of the Bible are the core of our faith.
As a companion to the Bible we also believe in the word of the Book of Mormon. The principles in the Book of Mormon mirror that of the Bible, and it tells the story of the people in the Americas as Christ visited them to spread his Gospel. The teachings of the Book of Mormon are not different from the Bible, they are another testament. I consider the Book of Mormon story to be similar to the parables told in the Bible, while it may not be factually correct as far as the story goes it is the teachings of Christ in another book. Just like the parables told by ministers at their pulpit, the stories may not have ever happened but it is the message that matters.
The third book we use is the Doctrine and Covenants, which is basically a guidebook for our church, written from the founding of the church by our leadership usually as a set of guidelines for the way we live and function and the organization of the church.
I am a Christian, I believe in Jesus Christ and he is central to our religion. I believe in the same god as any Christian, and Sharpton's comments were either ignorant or bigoted, but it does not really matter to me what the good Reverend has to say about my faith, I feel secure in my beliefs. - kolbygoodman, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13Oh...NAGgers...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@morelia
As with most intellectuals, you are conceited, narcissistic, and quite frankly, a snob. The fact that you might actually take Al Sharpton's side also proves that you're something of a racist , Your anti-religion stance is discriminatory in it's own right. But, taking Al Sharpton over Mit Romney? Now you can add hypocrite to your resume. Personally, I'm glad individuals such as yourself are around, it makes any argument for religion that much easier.. - NSResponder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Al Sharpton a bigot?"
Well, there's some possibility that he's related to Strom Thurmond. Maybe it runs in the family.
-jcr - WilliamDavis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"but Jesus of Nazareth in SOUTH AMERICA?"
No kidding!!! They also believe this stuff about him rising from the dead and being the son of some all powereful being. Not just that, but a virgin birth, miracles, and all sorts of crazy stuff!! Jesus in south america??? That's where I really draw the ***** line. There's just no way.
When will these god people finally stop arguing over who is less wacky? - NSResponder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Mormons ... they are the worst."
If you believe that, then you've had a very sheltered life. Try googling for "scientology" sometime. There are a lot of cults that are far worse than the mormons.
-jcr - NSResponder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4" racist who plays the race card whenever his interests are threatened."
He pulls that ***** whenever he feels like it, no "threat" needed.
