Sept 27 2002 Arrests of 650 Peaceful Protesters in Wash DC
justiceonline.org — Protesters opposed to war and global trade policies were arrested by police clad in riot gear. No order to disperse was given, and protesters were NOT PERMITTED to disperse. Instead of allowing protesters to peacefully disperse, the police arrested 650, many just passers-by. All lawsuits have been successful so far, class action suit pending.

- yellowcakewalk, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2They bound us foot-to-hand with cable ties and tossed us on a gymnasium floor for 30 hours. Bathroom trips were denied. Humiliation came in many forms, some subtle some not so subtle.
The ACLU suit came first, the plaintiffs were awarded $50K each, the DC City Council passed laws to protect the rights of protesters, and the police chief had to issue a written apology to each plaintiff. The second lawsuit was also successful. We are waiting on the results of the class action suit.
If you are feeling patriotic, and if you have in your thoughts the protesters on their way to Denver and Minneapolis right now, toss a couple of bucks to the ACLU, the National Laywers Guild, and/or the Partnership for Civil Justice.

The next time some idiot says "they are fighting in Iraq for your freedom" remind them that the war against our freedom is here in the USA and it's the protesters that are answering the call.
