Seoul: Classify Dogs as Meat?
ziitrend.com — Somewhere between two and four million dogs are consumed in South Korea every year, but the slaughtering and processing is carried out in dirty environments and poses a risks to diners' health. In Apr 2008, the Seoul government has proposed reclassifying dogs as livestock so it can set food safety standards.

- boothdeveloper, on 04/16/2008, -1/+4I love dogs as my friends; however the bill is completely driven by the local culture. The position of animals groups is not strong enough if the new bill will protect living standard of dogs as other livestock (eg. cows, chickens).
- synystar, on 04/17/2008, -5/+1I never met a cow, or chicken, that was truly happy that I exist. I've never hated or loved a cow. Or a chicken. I hate some dogs. Some dogs hate me. Most dogs love me. I love most dogs. Dogs are not livestock. Personality.
- 3tcp, on 04/17/2008, -0/+5I've known people who owned chickens (for eggs) and they've said that chickens have quite a bit of personality. Raise them from chicks and they'll have friend like relationships with their owners. Call them and they'll come running, follow you around, nuzzle up to you, etc..

- fujipapa, on 04/16/2008, -7/+2Eating dog is just as cruel as eating cow meat. So, the ultimate solution is to become a vegetarian.
- vault, on 04/16/2008, -4/+3But no one has a pet cow.
- scooterbaga, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1false.
- Yamoth, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Lies!!

- nahsrocketeer75, on 04/16/2008, -4/+3Dugg ... but you couldn't *make* me read the story. Too close to dinner.
- Jasper710, on 04/16/2008, -2/+1"You're eating Oscar!!"

- Yamoth, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Actually it taste more like lamb

lol - theYevvin, on 04/17/2008, -1/+13Anyone that thinks this is "disgusting" or "horrible" is culturally narrow minded. Get over yourselves. Next time you see a Hindu, tell them how delicious cows are.
I like to give animals a cute name before I eat them. Especially fun at dinner parties. - joshlanjaron, on 04/17/2008, -0/+6we eat lamb and rabbit and pigs, who are highly intelligent. Eating animals in general is pretty minging, its just our perception and dogs position in "our" society. If you couldn't kill it then dont eat it. p.s i can kill chickens, but haven't attempted or had the opportunity to slaughter a cow yet.
- frozzenst, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Although I'm a vegetarian, I have to admit that eating dogs is a fantastic solution to dealing with stray dogs :)
- Tamriel, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1I have a Modest Proposal for you...
- Yamoth, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1No it is not... We don't monitor or control stray dog eating habbit and thus prone to have all kind of diseases.
- 3tcp, on 04/17/2008, -0/+6Gross. They're the ones eating it though so I don't care. Pigs are smarter than dogs, cats, horses etc... but most people aren't offended by bacon. The disgust is strictly cultural.
- Brian47126, on 04/17/2008, -0/+4yes, I believe they call it, "Seoul-Food"
- scooterbaga, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Every meat eater currently freaking out about this is a ridiculous hypocrite.
Way to be ignorant... and obvious about it.- stronglikedan, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1Wrong. Dogs are domesticated. Domesticated animals != livestock.
Way to be wrong...and obvious about it.- Roger, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Umm you can domesticate a pig, goat, chicken, anything.
- scooterbaga, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Like I was saying... way to be obvious about it.
- stronglikedan, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1Wrong. Dogs are domesticated. Domesticated animals != livestock.
- RSnote, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1Wait a second... I clicked on the story because of the classic "girl attempting to eat cat" photo, but it's now a baby attempting to eat a dog. I been had!
- stronglikedan, on 04/17/2008, -2/+1Domesticated animals != livestock. That is the difference. Period. End of discussion.
- kleenex1, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1While I could never eat "dog", I'm almost certain that these are wild dogs and not your average puppy peeking out the mall pet store window type. It does boil down to cultural differences and should not be judged so harshly. Cultural differences, no matter how strange or foreign they may seem to us, is what makes our world such an interesting and wonderful place.
- CaptainKimo, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1Deep fried, salt and pepper, yummy to my tummy.
