- hippykiller, on 07/07/2009, -0/+29Funny every IPA I have ever had has been ridiculously hoppy with at least 7.5% alcohol. I guess we still know how to make IPA's in the states.
- danj484, on 07/07/2009, -0/+28***** would probably be a kind comparison.
- KILLERB00TSMAN, on 07/08/2009, -2/+24I like Smirnoff Ice Grape flavor, will this beer taste as good?
- MixMastaKooz, on 07/07/2009, -0/+19I'll try it! Who would refuse a cold beer? Especially one aged in such an old-school fashion....
Also, dugg for the guy's job title, "Head of Stuff" - ladysherwood, on 07/07/2009, -0/+14I read the title as beer aged literally for two centuries. Not being a beer drinker at all, I have no idea if this would make it better or taste like *****.
- dafragsta, on 07/08/2009, -0/+13Or 21st century if it's a grocery store in Oklahoma.
- haydukeqc, on 07/08/2009, -0/+13American IPAs are the best in the world.
- khaosx2030, on 07/08/2009, -0/+9Unlike most of Digg, I know sarcasm when I see it.
Digg to you sir! - borez, on 07/08/2009, -0/+8I can't see any advantage to this at all apart from it being shook around a lot. Pure publicity stunt.
- killerofkiller, on 07/08/2009, -0/+7You forgot Dogfish head, the king of IPAs.
- Lionhart, on 07/08/2009, -0/+6I think what they're saying is the definition for IPA is so broad that it includes a beer as ***** as having 3.8%. I think the point they're making is that it will be a true IPA which will have a huge abv like they used to have.
- nicktomyskins, on 07/08/2009, -0/+6read the article... or maybe just the title/subtitle and you could understand what the hell is going on
- joshblufs, on 07/08/2009, -0/+6If you've only had IPA's over 7.5 from the states then your missing out on a ***** of good beers, such as...
Stone IPA
hopdevil
smuttynose
sierra nevada
harpoon
long hammer
hop ottin
lagunitas
green flash
etc etc. - Schwa142, on 07/08/2009, -0/+6god damnit... you just woke up my kids!
- scuba7183, on 07/08/2009, -0/+6I too would like a bottle or ten
- ihavefrowned, on 07/08/2009, -1/+6Those are mostly all from the states. Mostly California actually.
- OnePost, on 07/08/2009, -0/+5MMMM, let me get a pint of that sea aged beer.
- atarijedi, on 07/08/2009, -0/+5Not even wine or scotch?
- mikedoth, on 07/08/2009, -1/+6I think it turns into vinegar eventually.
- Schwa142, on 07/08/2009, -0/+4@killerofkiller
Dogfish Head IPA's are well over 7.5%... But I still dugg you for it being the king. - Kelpesh, on 07/08/2009, -0/+4Me likes a good IPA
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -0/+4It tastes like clams and seaweed.
- alexhud, on 07/08/2009, -0/+4It was a lot higher then 3.8% in the 19th century did u read the whole sentence?
- Lionhart, on 07/08/2009, -1/+5I thought it was wine that turned to vinegar. Beer too?
- MixMastaKooz, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3It should also be aged in oak barrels and stored at what would be slightly higher than room temperature...sure, it's a gimmick, but it would be interesting to taste something made in such a "traditional" way.
- GOVStooge, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3mmmmm Beer
- hippykiller, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3I was trying to figure out if that was a typo or if that really is his title.
- TheSeeker11, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2Probably the best pale ale I've tasted - Sierra Nevada Pale Ale <http://www.sierranevada.com/beers/paleale.html>
- hawk0168, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2SURLY FURIOUS WILL REPLACE ALL THE OTHER BEERS IN YOUR HOME AND AT THE SAME TIME ALLOW YOU FEEL BITTERNESS YOU'VE NEVER FELT BEFORE. FOR ONLY 8.99 YOU CAN ENJOY ACTUAL PINTS OF BEER. ONLY 8.99.
- TheUngod, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2"Traditional" doesn't always mean good. I would imagine they changed the way it was made for a reason.
- Schwa142, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2hippykiller was probably referring to IPA's under 7.5%... I think the highest alcohol content in that list is hop ottin, at 7%.
- Schwa142, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2@killerofkiller
nevermind... I almost forgot about their 60 minute. - freakjim, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2Pliny the Elder is another fine IPA.
- TheUngod, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Drink stouts to look tough. Drink IPAs to BE tough.
- 31073, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1I attended a beer tasting dinner for Brewdog last month. The beer wasn't anything special, but the guy did have good stories. and he showed us this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTlPU_4T3mo - erkokite, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1blech.
- ihavefrowned, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Sometimes I'll enjoy an IPA at almost room temperature.
- joshblufs, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1haven't had dogfish head where can i find it in los angeles sounds like i need to try it.
- TheUngod, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Oh good. I was drinking a beer the other day and thinking "you know what this beer is missing? Clams and seaweed. And dead fish smell."
- haydukeqc, on 07/08/2009, -2/+3Where is this available? I need a bottle or two.
- Actionjax1, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1I suggest BrewDog's other brews as well, their Punk IPA as well as there Dogma Ale are definitely on my list of good beers.
- bjwest, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1More hops and higher alcohol content is what George Hodgson found preserved the ale. Budweiser, Miller, Coors and all the other big-brew commercial American beers (well, Budweiser isn't American anymore, but still...) contain very little hops. Up to this point, all beers contained only a small amount of hops compared to an IPA.
A 3.8% IPA isn't a real IPA. It's not on the market, maybe they don't know where it'll be sold yet and the only way beers are "supposed" to be compared is by alcohol content, IBUs, and color.
The article "kinda sucked" for you only because you think you know beer. Put the Bud down and grab a real beer. You'd be surprised at the difference. - skyred, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1India Pale Ale style specification
http://greatbrewers.com/style/india-pale-ale - adammc123, on 07/08/2009, -1/+2This article kinda sucked. They state in the intro that beer didn't do well and went bad at sea, until they discovered that hops and alcohol preserved it. Um, that's what beer is! Also, they don't tell you where they'll sell it or how it is "supposed" to be compared to IPAs that are 3.8%. The article left more questions than answers for me.
- Stuffburger, on 07/11/2009, -0/+0My beer is great and your beer sucks.
- skaldicpoet9, on 07/08/2009, -1/+1This is so sad, yet true :(
- stjeanp, on 07/08/2009, -0/+0You left off Avery's Maharaja...
- czxxx, on 07/08/2009, -0/+0Lame? Fine then, more beer for me.
- jsmith212600, on 07/08/2009, -2/+1Untreated fish sewage oh nooooooooooooooes.
- fijigrad, on 07/08/2009, -4/+3My favorites:
Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA and 90 Minute IPA, Sierra Nevada Torpedo and their Southern Hemisphere Harvest Ale, Bell's Two Hearted Ale, Loose Cannon Heavy Seas, Lagunitas HopStoopid, Boulder Brewing's Mojo IPA, Great Lakes Commodore Perry. If you live in Cleveland, you can get Buckeye Brewing's Aquarius from the Beer Engine in Lakewood.
I have a *small* problem with hoppy beers... -
