ALL HAIL XENU!! (THX FROM ANON IN SYDNEY) - PhilLesh69, on 02/11/2008, -26/+8Stop being distracted by stories about scientologists. Sure, we all know that they believe that an alien god brought the souls to Earth, and they inhabited the bodies of monkies.
It is all a diversion.
Pay attention to current events and politics, stop focusing on this *****.
We have an election coming up, and we have troops in Iraq. Let's care about meaningful things, not meaningless *****.- DCJoeDogaswell, on 02/11/2008, -4/+9You're under the misguided belief that this is only occurring in the United States only, when in fact it is a worldwide initiative. Don't worry, Obama or Hillary will win, and the war will magically come to an end. So we can focus on other things if we want to.
- Jaysunli, on 02/11/2008, -12/+4Local politics aside his main point is just as valid.
There are far more pressing matters then Scientology. I respect the real protestors doing the dirty work but the majority of people at these lateset events are hardly protesting. They are joining the chan wagon and literally doing it for the lulz. That is pretty much the saddest thing I have ever heard of.- spyrochaete, on 02/11/2008, -2/+15In my city of Toronto over 50 people took part in the Anonymous raid. It was -35 celcius with windchill yesterday. Doesn't sound like a lot of lulz to me. The opponents of Scientology are serious.
http://torontoist.com/2008/02/scientology_pro.php - 11oops, on 02/11/2008, -8/+1All 50 of them?
- Memitim, on 02/11/2008, -0/+9If there have to be groups of people screwing around, I'd much rather that they be doing so drawing attention to a dangerous organization like Scientology rather than at a ball game, a bar, or some other useless activity. Christ, you make it sound like we need to optimize every activity we do regardless of what we want to do, which seems doubly stupid seeing as we are posting on Digg rather than composing letters to our editors, writing our Congressmen, or preparing public speeches.

- donthateme, on 02/11/2008, -0/+3Its good to see people stand up for other people's freedom of speech, even if they are trapped in a cult. The bigger person sees through their ignorance and helps the trapped person if if they don't want it at this time. Surely, they will be desperate for freedom from this cult at some point in their life, when they smell the coffee. I'm a Christian and believe that freedom of speech should never be taken away from anyone.
- rune420, on 02/12/2008, -1/+1What's funny to me is that compared to 4channers scientologists actually seem like a nice group of people. I don't get how you guys can act so self righteous in between all the trading of child porn and overused racial slurs.
- NinjasR2Cool, on 02/11/2008, -8/+19This is great the more mainstream media coverage the better. Keep up the great work everyone!
LOL @ Xenu- badjoke, on 02/11/2008, -2/+9Anon doesn't fight against their beliefs, just their criminal practices. Who are you to tell someone what to believe or not? If you crusade against Scientology's beliefs, you have to mark up all the other religions as well which have premises just as preposterous.
- dogshaft, on 02/11/2008, -0/+6Bay news 9 isn't really main stream. It's the crappy Tampa Bay local 24 hour news channel owned by the cable company. Though, not bad since the Scinos own pretty much all of downtown Clearwater.

If people want to join a silly religion and fork over heaps of dosh, who cares? Isn't that exactly what all those evangelical churches in the south have been doing for years? No one protests evangelical christianity do they?

Some unproven planet called "Xenu" and unfound evidence for beings under volcanoes on earth. In addition to a body and a mind, each person is also an immortal spiritual entity called a Thetan, which spans lifetimes and has the power to create the basic elements of existence: matter, energy, space, and time. With the help of Scientology, church members move along a path to spiritual enlightenment known as the Bridge to Total Freedom. The aim of this spiritual pilgrimage is to attain higher states of consciousness, marked by successive levels of Operating Thetan status.

A mythical anthropomorphic, "Bible-God" impregnated a child virgin in order to give birth to himself in order to be sacrificed to himself in order to sit beside himself in order to save the world from himself as some kind of experiment in psychopathic, self replicating, self-redemption along with disturbing stories of hell and damnation and devils and eternal suffering if one should stray?

- 3F05Q, on 02/11/2008, -2/+59I think you're missing it entirely. The point of all this crap is that Scientology is sucking people in and stripping them financially... and even killing people in solitary confinement. Take all the Xenu stuff out, and you'd still have a money-racket.
- dildoolielly, on 02/11/2008, -18/+5Compare the income of any medium to large church to the budget of your average local soup kitchen. Multiply that by about 1,000,000
We have about 250 churches around here and about ONE soup kitchen.
Have you ever actually even researched the income of your average med/big church? You can't because most don't have to report their earnings or pay taxes that help pay for education, roads and other needs of the local communities.
Try to get a church to pay your heating bill ONE time. Tell them you only need it one time. I'm sure you will
Churches drain communities of their charity and buy up infrastructure on taxless land raising everybody else's property taxes.
Really look it up sometime. I am sure you will.- dildoolielly, on 02/11/2008, -12/+4I don't mind being dugg down. Its predictible, the come in flocks, but being dugg down so quickly with lack of rebuttals seems pathetic and desperate

But thanks to idiots like you, that will probably never happen, as it's doubtful with this sort of crap going on that any prosecutor could argue that their jury has remained impartial.- Midtowner, on 02/11/2008, -1/+5Their leader died in hiding after being convicted of numerous federal crimes. Many of their leaders were sent to prison for the same crimes including the leader's wife.
Convinced?- dildoolielly, on 02/11/2008, -1/+1Well at least we know that the looney Ron L. Hubard actually existed. There is not one shred of evidence for this "Jesus" fella!
Ask any local university historian for the evidence indicating jesus was anything other than a manufactured martyr of the late 1st century CE. He/she will tell you that no such evidence of a "historical" jesus exists. His existence MUST be taken on faith, just like those who believe in Zeus and/or many other mythical characters.
Nothing was written about jesus for more than four decades after he was "supposedly" executed. He has no tomb because (conveniently) his burial could not take place (as his imaginary daddy whisked him up to heaven, apparently just in the nick of time!). No bones, right? Not one contemporary historian wrote even one sentence about him. Why is that?

- nemesiscw, on 02/11/2008, -2/+11Yeah, he's missing the point. They don't care about the whole story. Let them believe whatever they want to believe, we don't care. The point is that the people running the cult are killing off people, extorting people, blackmailing people, and numerous other crimes.
- dildoolielly, on 02/11/2008, -22/+3Ask ANY local university historian if Christians haven't done the same thing for literally thousands of years
FROM 1450 to 1792 throughout Europe, New England, and South America, Christians murdered perhaps 50,000 to 100,000 "Satan worshipers" & other heretics
from 1492 to now Christians murdered millions or tens of millions aboriginals throughout the western hemisphere
between 1904 and 1907 in the formerly German South-West Africa, the Christian German government killed 35,000 to 105,000 hereros and animists
from 1941 to 1945 in Croatia, the Ustaša (Roman-Catholic/Fascist regime) murdered up to one million Jews, Roma, Serbian Orthodox Christians, anti-fascist Croats
The 1995 bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, OK, by Timothy McVeigh killed 168, including 19 children.
One lynching, one attempted mass murder by stoning, and numerous fire bombings, shootings, and assaults victimized Wiccans and other Neopagans in the U.S. during the late 20th century. To our knowledge, all were perpetrated by Fundamentalist Christians.
Fundamentalist Christians have attacked Jewish centers, attempted to poison municipal water supplies, bombed abortion clinics, and assassinated abortion providers
The Recontructionist movement asserts that the coming reign of Jesus will abolish democracy, the separation of church and state, abortion, religious freedom, federal welfare programs, and many other features of modern society.
A brochure published by Aryan Nations included this statement in their creed of faith: "We BELIEVE there is a battle being fought this day between the children of darkness (today known as Jews) and the children of Light (God), the Aryan race, the true Israel of the Bible."
One of the United States most notorious right wing terrorist groups of the post-war era, the Order (otherwise known as the Silent Brotherhood, or Holy Order of Aryan Warriors) brought together militant racists from Christian Identity, a racist faction of the Odinists, and people of conventional neo-Nazi backgrounds.
And let us not forget Christianity's long, bloody history...
The Crusades
The 500 years of Inquisitions
The pillage, rape, torture and murder of the Aztecs
The murder of every Indian on Cuba
The genocide against the American Indian
The worlds' most famous Christian Adolf Hitler and his Christian Nazis, the 6 million they killed in the Holocaust, and the 35 million who died as a result of the World War they launched

He can call himself a Christian all day, but by his fruit I know him. He did evil, therefore he was not truly of Christ.
You only hear about the Christians who do crap like this. You don't hear the rest of us who realize that we (yes, WE, the Christians, need it too) are sinners, need forgiveness for that, and honestly try to glorify God by our actions.- dildoolielly, on 02/11/2008, -1/+1You are not a "Christian", even though you may call yourself one. You are not following scripture. And thats a GOOD thing, because you would probably be in jail if you did.
You hypocritical assholes like to distance yourselves from extremists by pointing out that these extremists don't represent the majority of christians, but you fail to explain why the majority of christians don't take exception to these horrendous acts in history based on same beliefs. Nor do you present any coherent argument as to how you came to chose which parts of the bible are to be take literally and which are metaphorical lessons. The problem is not, as so many like to say, that a few extremists get things wrong, its that these extremists get things right... biblically speaking that is.
Moderates need to admit that the bible is a human text that expresses moral and ethical viewpoints that are several thousand years out of date. Until they do, they need to live with the stink that the biblical literalists bring.

now which one is "crazier"- mGARANDEUR1, on 02/11/2008, -1/+5clearly Scientology. No other religion requires money to attend. You could go into any church and ask for a bible and they give one to you. Religions focus and love and the family structure. Scientology focuses on extorting individuals.
- dildoolielly, on 02/12/2008, -1/+1Oh, utter *****, stop giving your tithe and the Church will cease to exist, its that simple
Its not just common fvcking sense, its simple mathematics.
Religions focus and love?
while Jesus was alive, He promised to do much more after He passed. Jesus said that, come Judgment Day, sinners will be gathered together and hurled into a furnace of fire where there will be uncontrollable wailing and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 13:41-42, 50). Entire cities of people who don't believe in Him will suffer a fate worse than that of Sodom and Gomorra (Mark 6:11). Jesus said that God will take vengeance on nonbelievers by burning them "in flaming fire" (2 Thessalonians 1:7-9). The Lord will create horse-like locusts with human heads, women's hair, lion's teeth and scorpion's tails that will sting and inflict savage pain on sinners for five months (Revelation 9:7-10).
After God sends fires, plagues and beasts God to Earth, the world will be covered in unburied dead bodies rotting everywhere while good Christians will "rejoice over them and make merry, and shall send gifts to one another" (Revelation 11:5-10). Meanwhile, the smoke of the burning, rotting bodies will ascend and plague the Earth forever (Revelation 14:10-11). And the smell will attract scavenger birds that will feast upon "the supper of the great God" (Revelation 19:17-18).
Jesus will send an earthquake to kill 7,000 people (Revelation 11:13). He will inflict bodily sores, turn the seas and rivers to blood, scorch everyone with fire, cause people to consume their own tongues. Oh, and He'll cause horrendous storms, too (Revelation 16:1-21).
Now, what was it you said about unconditional love? In the United States, if you engaged in the acts Jesus promised to do, you would find yourself in prison for the rest of your life. Contrary to the way you view Him, Jesus was no sissy! He doesn't sit around meekly crying over sinners not worshiping Him enough - He kills them. And then tortures them for good measure!
So, phony Christian, continue ignoring all the parts of the New Testament you don't like, and latch onto the little nancy-boy verses you prefer. But bear in mind that the single page of the Bible you like to quote will incinerate in less than a second when your sorry ass is hurled into the furnace of an everlasting Hell!
Praying those who pick and choose which parts of the Bible to quote are the first plunged into the fiery abyss.

- Connormac44, on 02/11/2008, -65/+9I'd say the digg users uniting against Scientology form the real cult. Get a life, losers. Scientology may suck, but this recent sensationalist exposure on digg is no more than a bunch of ***** stuck at their computer just dying for some phony "cause" to rally behind so they can feel like they're making a difference. This makes them feel less guilty for sitting behind their computers for upwards of 12 hours a day. Let the crazies be.
- 10wattmindtrip, on 02/11/2008, -7/+16You're an idiot.
- kaskarn, on 02/11/2008, -5/+23 Well I for one welcome you to a process called democracy, which can indeed leave up to 50% of the people unhappy. Guess what, it's not all about you.

- jmg703, on 02/11/2008, -1/+5better to sit at a computer and be a small part of a cause than be a part of NOTHING AT ALL.
- inajeep, on 02/11/2008, -1/+2That attitude is where the laziness and unintelligent of the world get their reputation. Do something about it, don't complain. Or STFU and keep reading about it

I'm starting to see a cult of ANON, "great justice," epic this, epic that, yada yda....
I don't like the CoS, but seriously, these efforts are a collective waste of time.
They're just distracting us from real, important issues. C'mon, this is like arguing over American Idol contestants or why "X" shouldn't have been voted off some reality show.- trashsportcat, on 02/11/2008, -4/+1CowS is just shooting practice.
- inajeep, on 02/11/2008, -0/+4Actually CoS is much much worse than American Idol. However, it's not a contest. Issues happen in parallel and don't take precedent over each other in terms of what someone should care about. This cult influences politics.

I think all this anti-scientology stuff is getting a little out of hand.
Remember the right to religious freedom and all that?
You start persecuting one religion this week, which religion will it be the next?
The jews? Oh wait thats already been done.
How about the Hari-krishna's?- mbrolutti, on 02/11/2008, -4/+20Yes you are.
- Micktion, on 02/11/2008, -9/+3I swear to Elron I'm not.

- Micktion, on 02/11/2008, -10/+5You fight criminality by filing official complaints to law enforcement officials. Doing things like running round the place slapping yellow stars on peoples windows is NOT fighting criminality.
Villifying a group of people, no matter how kooky they are is just plain frightening. I'm more scared of people like you than I am of scientologists.- Bing11, on 02/11/2008, -4/+3Micktion is right. The only time you need to break laws is when the laws/lawmakers themselves are corrupt (the Iraq war comes to mind). - Drkgodess, on 02/11/2008, -3/+291. It's not a religion, it's criminal organization that charges it's followers in order for them to get "clear".
2. Anonymous isn't against the belief systems of the people, rather the corrupt organization behind scientology.
3. Other religions don't charge over $300,000.00 for salvation, hence anon has no problem with them.- Micktion, on 02/11/2008, -16/+3Wait you left out a few things....

- hadiz, on 02/11/2008, -4/+64I live in Clearwater, and for those that don't know I believe it is officially the scientology capital of the world. They have a huge say in what goes on downtown, and own probably 90% of the businesses down there.
- AxisDenied, on 02/11/2008, -3/+6That's odd... I lived just outside of clearwater for 20 years and the only scientology involvement I know is the property they own up US19.
- fritzbrown, on 02/11/2008, -0/+6 Scientology is the largest landowner in Clearwater. The former Ft. Harrison Hotel is their flagship and considered to be the world headquarters, or was at one time.
They started buying land in the late 70's and quietly kept adding to it. Reps from Scientology would walk into a business with a suitcase full of money and would walk out owning the property.
- fritzbrown, on 02/11/2008, -0/+6 Scientology is the largest landowner in Clearwater. The former Ft. Harrison Hotel is their flagship and considered to be the world headquarters, or was at one time.
- andrew1111, on 02/11/2008, -2/+14Yes, Scientology's "Flag", their land headquarters, are in Clearwater (you can see the tall-ish sand-colored building in the background of this video.) Of course it is the location where many of their evil-doings take place... certainly more than anyone knows about. I head the "pleasure" of staying at Flag on a few occasions as a child, and I would not recommend it as a vacation destination (Clearwater itself is ok, but stay away from Flag). :)
- andrew1111, on 02/11/2008, -1/+13BTW sorry about the temporary-ish account, if anyone noticed. I kinda would rather not have Scientology know that I've been in their organization.

- fafaforza, on 02/11/2008, -9/+5The reporter would have done well to show one of the protesters the video and ask for a response. Instead, a scientology spokesman got the last word. Nicely balanced.

- canniscam, on 02/11/2008, -2/+8L. Ron Hubbard had written some decent speculative fiction, and I admire the fact that someone has the creative insight to bring distant worlds and ideas to life. Yet I feel that so much of his work was diminished by the idea of Scientology and the formation of an organized church around the ideals of human self actualization. Everyone can realize their own potential on their own terms, they don't need a world body church and Tom Cruise to show them the path.
I follow the beliefs of Christianity, but I don't subscribe to any denominations or organized churches, for the same reasons that I disagree with the Church of Scientology. I think that too many people are in the "business of religion" and not the practice of faith.
To each person, I say make your own decisions about how you believe and no amount of money or wealth given, donated, requested or stolen should force you believe any other way.
Casey- andyd273, on 02/11/2008, -0/+4Eh, I'd have to say that most of L. Ron Hubbard's books were crap. Battlefield Earth was all right, I guess, though the plot got a little thin in places, but his other books were definitely not worth reading, and way to preachy.
- kingmanic, on 02/11/2008, -0/+2Seconded, most of his work was 3rd rate pulp trash.
- shredswithpiks, on 02/11/2008, -0/+2Keep in mind that the idea of Scientology and the church created around the ideas of LRH's sci-fi works were, in fact, created by LRH himself.
Not sure I would condone subscribing to the works of LRH as faith. LRH is a man to was convicted and jailed for stealing millions of dollars from the church he created.
LRH, and the leaders who have taken his place, are not in the "business of religion." It's the business of extortion with the facade of a religion. - jmg703, on 02/11/2008, -0/+6The fact that he specifically made the "church" to make "millions of dollars" leads one to believe that the religion itself should be questioned and dismantled.
- andyd273, on 02/11/2008, -0/+4Eh, I'd have to say that most of L. Ron Hubbard's books were crap. Battlefield Earth was all right, I guess, though the plot got a little thin in places, but his other books were definitely not worth reading, and way to preachy.

- queenstarsha, on 02/11/2008, -4/+1i buried it as lame. i hate ***** religions as much as any other relatively sane educated person. but religious persecution is not an exciting "movement" to me.
- vikki77, on 02/11/2008, -2/+4I think it's funny that there's a decent sized Christian college in Clearwater. That may explain why most of the protesters look college-aged.
- GeorgeClayton, on 02/11/2008, -0/+3The news reporter was obviously ignorant or oblivious to what was really going on; and obviously picking segments that don't show the biggest complaints against Scientology (like the deaths of some o their members & destruction of lives).
- screamxsquad, on 02/11/2008, -0/+1I was there, and we had a TON of signs that were much worse. They said things that probably would've gotten the media in trouble with scientology if they'd been aired.
- sentinel106, on 02/11/2008, -0/+4I love my home state of Florida dearly, but it makes me utterly disgusted that $cientology decided to make it their home too...
- K0NY, on 02/11/2008, -0/+12One angle I'm not seeing addressed is that The "Church" of Scientology discriminates against poor people. If you don't have the money for constant auditing, you become the scum of the Earth within the Scientology infrastructure. Religions offer salvation and happiness in exchange for living by a certain set of principles while Scientology offers them for monetary compensation. The benefits and ultimate rewards of living your life according to any belief system are debatable. "Bang for your buck" in Scientology is not. Former members of Scientology, after 30 years, will tell you that the time and money spent was largely wasted and the promised resolution of problems was never delivered.
- kbennett73, on 02/11/2008, -0/+0Scientology isn't the only religion guilty of discrimination against poor people. Check out the history of "indulgences" in the Roman Catholic church. In a roundabout way, they charged people for forgiving their sins. You could purchase indulgences and use them to liberate the souls of your deceased family members from Purgatory. Martin Luther's protest of the Catholic Church's indulgences is what set off the Reformation in the 1500s. (That's the original Martin Luther, not the Martin Luther King, Jr. of the 1960s, for those of you who aren't familiar with him.) This practice of charging people for spiritual benefits is nothing new. Scientology just happens to be the latest in a long string of religions committing the same fraud on their followers.

- daakone, on 02/11/2008, -0/+6It might be religious persecution if it were a religion.
- Ellipsys, on 02/11/2008, -0/+4Does that mean that Heaven's Gate and the Branch Davidian cults should be allowed as well? This isn't about belief. This is about a business - a cult that charges for salvation, gets off tax free, and extorts and intimidates those that would criticize them.

No. Scientology is a business masquerading as a religion. Anonymous have specifically stated they do not have an issue with the belief system. This is a protest against their behaviour, their litigious nature and the tactics they use against critics, it is not an attack on their beliefs (heck I think anyone who believes in sky fairies is certifiable, but that's their own personal choice).
