- GhostToon, on 02/11/2008, -7/+141Raid sounds cooler and less hippiesh.
- goldfenix, on 02/11/2008, -8/+112For those who haven't heard, the Atlanta protest had riot police at the site. Those guys get mad props, in my opinion.

My local protest only had about 15 people, but I still saw some Scientologists filming them. Well done Anon. - PrettyBoyFloyd, on 02/11/2008, -7/+100This really takes me back. I'm a Texas Ex (Class of 1983) and I remember back when the Church of Scientology rented a building a few blocks away on Nueces, just down the street from where I lived. They purchased the building on Guadalupe a year or so later. I used to work at a McDonalds' on Guadalupe down the street (not the one in Dobie Mall, but one further north that no longer exists), and lots of Scientologists would come in for burgers on almost a daily basis. They were generally very nice and friendly folks, but a couple of them were committed vegetarians who would order Big Macs without any meat. They always ordered burgers and coffee. Kind of weird, but they were very, very nice and smiled all the time. One day, after my last class, they came up to me as I was walking home to strike up a conversation about Dianetics, and I decided to take their Personality Test at the Church offices on Nueces. It was a fairly long and involved multiple choice test and after I finished it, they took the paper and analyzed it for almost half an hour while I sat in their very comfortable sunken lobby next to a friendly, inviting fireplace and began doing my homework. They offered me free soft drinks and snacks and made sure I was comfortable while I waited. When they were ready to speak to me again, they said that the results of my test indicated that I was terribly depressed and probably suicidal and I really needed to be audited to be truly healthy. Scientology, they said, was the key to my survival.
I was quite surprised, since I wouldn't have bothered doing the thing at all if I hadn't been in a very good mood at the time (that afternoon, a girl I was interested in had accepted an invitation to join me at a Judas Priest concert, so I was ecstatically happy, and walking on clouds all the way from class).
I realized then and there that Scientology was total crap, but they kept coming back at me to remind me that I'd insisted that I was a free thinker with an open mind and willing to listen to all viewpoints, so I couldn't get out of there without buying a copy of Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health .
I did read it, just to say that I had actually studied Scientology. I had also read some other books Hubbard wrote (Fear, Typewriter in the Sky, and some other of his better-known short stories from Astounding Science Fiction back in the 1940s).
I will give Hubbard credit for being a very astute judge of human nature, and a skillful manipulator of weak minds. It's interesting to see how some of Hubbard's ideas were later adapted by Werner Erhard for his est training and Bob Trask for his ARAS (Acceptance, Respect, Affection, Support) seminars, but overall, Scientology was just what Hubbard told the science fiction community back in the 1950s: if you ever want to be a millionaire, forget writing science fiction books, and start your own religion. - xelnaga, on 02/11/2008, -8/+87anon delivers
- GhostToon, on 02/11/2008, -16/+89EPIC WIN!
- brodiquine, on 02/11/2008, -9/+66I drove by and honked. Nicely done anon.
- sotopheavy, on 02/11/2008, -4/+46My girlfriend and I were driving by in Austin, TX. My GF wouldn't honk the horn so I reached over and gave anon a supportive honk. People were packed on both sides of the street for about a block and were spread out more sparsely about a block further away. There was also a van driving around town that said something llike "Ask a Christian, Ask a Jew, Ask a Muslim, but if you ask a Scientologist, they'll tell you when the check clears."
Everybody came out for a completely peaceful lawful protest as far as I could tell. Alien costumes were pretty funny too! - inactive, on 02/11/2008, -11/+48The user who submitted this doesn't seem that anonymous to me. His name is his username and he's not wearing any face covering at all. A simple myspace search returns his public myspace profile. Jimmy, set your myspace profile to private dude!
- Gotar, on 02/11/2008, -3/+39To the two posters above me, OMG 4 paragraphs!
Please learn to read for the world's sake. - inactive, on 02/11/2008, -5/+39This needs to continue

- fragilityv2, on 02/11/2008, -8/+34I went by tried to take some photos from the car lol None turned out, but I honked!!! :)
- 1337Einstein, on 02/11/2008, -7/+28That's not going to stop him from getting targeted, he needs to be anonymous when dealing with this material regardless of whether or not he considers himself a member of this movement.
- DUISnipe, on 02/11/2008, -1/+22Civil protest does nothing radical, it's not meant to destroy the church. It's to get people to realize Scientology is a trap.
- KyleGoetz, on 02/11/2008, -0/+20Thanks for your comments, fellow Texas Ex (class of 2006). It was nice to see a little bit of the history of the Cult in Austin. My freshman year in college, a Daily Texan reporter took the test, watched their videos, and discovered a passageway connecting the Scientology area to Le Fun (RIP). He then proposed that Le Fun was a Scientology front to brainwash people via arcade games or something.
It was a pretty neat, and humorous article at the same time. - jon30041, on 02/11/2008, -2/+20Good god I want riot gear...

- nubnub, on 02/11/2008, -1/+17Lets see. They caused worldwide media attention. Spread the knowledge of Scientology's sickening actions. Mosts protests report handing out a CRAP load of fliers and pamphlets. They are opening the world's eyes to Scientology. You can not except the whole church organization to fall in 1 day. This is the beginning. People who know about the dangers of Scientology are more likely not to be sucked into being brainwashed. There are more events planned. THIS IS A GREAT WIN. for great justice and the good of mankind. Even if you tell ONE person about this you are helping.
- liquidpele, on 02/11/2008, -3/+19Can we refrain from calling it a "church" please? Scamhouse, headquarters, office, whatever. Not a church.

- NinjaPig, on 02/11/2008, -4/+19i saw it today morning, i went there at exactly 10:20 am and i saw that there were 3 White Vans and they were pretty ominously parked in front of the church(its right on the edge of campus). Most of the protestors weren't directly across it, but pretty soon the van with the banner came up and people were handing things out. It REALLY wasn't as eventful as I hoped it to be. But I was happy to see that the church was serious enough to park those three massive vans in front of the church.
Speaking of which can anyone here guess what the hell were in those three vans, besides warrior scientologists? - mlvassallo, on 02/11/2008, -5/+19The best part about the Austin, Tx Scientology Center is the big Christmas Tree they put up every year. Boggles the mind.
- Murdats, on 02/11/2008, -0/+13actually most people know very little about scientology other then their favorite celebrities are part of it (which makes it good in their eyes)
- knifesideleft, on 02/11/2008, -2/+15Me.
Speak for yourself jackass - inactive, on 02/11/2008, -0/+13And it would give the militant scientologists an easier time in finding them and doing physical damage to them and their places of residence. You don't know the enemy here, if you become a thorn in Scientology's side they stop at nothing to shut you up.
- nubnub, on 02/11/2008, -1/+14The people who care about other people's lives.
The people who care about freedom of speech.
The people who care about human rights violates
The people who care. - aguynamedben, on 02/11/2008, -6/+19"IT'S A TRAP!!!"
- KyleGoetz, on 02/11/2008, -0/+12I wasn't trying to say Austin was better. I was trying to say that Austin did itself proud, plain and simple. One city measuring up doesn't mean other cities suck. Just like how saying "America ***** YEAH" doesn't mean "holy crap Japan is a terrible country."

- banmaster, on 02/11/2008, -2/+13The whole point is to raise awareness of $cientoilogy. And a good job has been done so far.
- artanis, on 02/11/2008, -0/+11@nepa
Thats not a joke. Their tactics are the exact reason anon is protesting them today. - oxdeltaxo, on 02/11/2008, -6/+17+ 1 for teh party van, lul memes in disguise.
- sdcarter, on 02/11/2008, -0/+10Yeah, like a Scientology themed restaurant.
Tom Cruizan Rum & Cokes
John Travoltiolli with meat sauce
Lord Hub Bran muffins (L. Ron Hubbard anagram)
Thetan burgers with cheese
and a bowl of ice cream shaped like the head of a grey
Don't forget to tip your bathroom attendant when you're "conducting an audit" - bdogm, on 02/11/2008, -0/+10Digg was never fun
- KyleGoetz, on 02/11/2008, -6/+16I'm pretty proud of how the Austin protest turned out. Over 100 people from a city of only 600K. That basically makes us more successful than NYC (2-300 people out of a multimillion-person city) and London (500 participants out of 7.5M people in the Greater London area).
Not that I participated or anything, Scientologists please don't kill me. - inactive, on 02/11/2008, -1/+11nietzsche would be proud.
- nubnub, on 02/11/2008, -1/+10Anonymous does not hate Scientology. Anonymous opposes censorship, they oppose Scientology suppressing freedom of speech. They oppose Scientology's violates of human rights. Anonymous believes they do not deserve to be tax free. They oppose the unneeded deaths caused by Scientology.

- zellis, on 02/11/2008, -1/+10Probably nothing. I think the most plausible explanation is that they were trying to block the view - make it difficult to see the protest from the street.
